Mixmaster turns back to the junkpile with a wave of his hand. "Hmm...no, I don't think Scrapper could be me, Hook; there's just too much Scrapper there for it to work, and far too little of myself. Though, of course, if he was (me, that is) then that would mean that I would have to be Scrapper," Mixmaster picks up a coiled spring knotted with frayed wiring and examines it closely. "Frankly, I don't think I'd make a good Scrapper, Hook, I don't. And Scrapper certainly wouldn't make a good me, no. Not at all."
The chemist turns back to Hook with a flourish, hands on his hips, spring clenched tightly in his fist- and speaks quite cheerfully. "After all, you need a special sort of programming to achieve my level of genius, I think, yes? Not just anybody could do it." He thrusts the spring toward Hook's face abruptly, "and do you think this would make a good present for Scavenger, should he ever get here? I don't want the Scrounge to think we'd forgotten him."

"Why would you have to be Scrapper? There are six of us. There is no reason for a straight one-to-one replacement, when such a thing could easily shuffle around us all. Bonecrusher could be Scrapper." Hook extracts the low-level beam emitters from the device and tosses the shell of it back onto their parts pile.
"Oh, honestly, he can find his own junk. He's not helpless, Mixmaster."

"True, true," Mixmaster says, "how silly of me to forget." He turns the coil over in his hands with a grin.
"And of course he's not helpless, we wouldn't have had him if he had been, yes? But do you really want to have Scavenger going about thinking we'd not thought of him even once while we were here? Just imagine how he might react to that if he did." Still, Mixmaster drops the coil in favor of an old tire and his own cube of high-grade; going to plop down next to Hook.
Or plop down as well as a mixing truck robot could, that is. Which meant Mixmaster wouldn't so much plop as crash. Loudly.

Hook can imagine. This is why Hook now takes a long swig of the high-grade Mixmaster brought him. Ah, the world is starting to endearingly fuzzy around the edges.
Hmm. What would happen if he narrowed the emitter cones to beams and amped up the output? Well, he already knew what would happen, of course. It made him chuckle.
"Oh, I'm sure he'll manage quite well when we drop him in Shortround's warehouse."
Hook snags a few wire coils and loose metal, then a welder from his toolkit. Time to create evil!

Mixmaster glances sideways at Hook as the engineer chuckles, and takes a quick drink of his own high-grade.
"I don't think Shortround would be too happy with us, no..." Mixmaster giggles at the thought and leans over close to his team mate to get a better look at what Hook's holding. He pulls the tire up higher against his chest and grasps it tightly under one arm. Like human children might hold a teddy bear.
"Do you have a higher powered cutter, Hook?"
Mixmaster's like one of those children who enjoy pulling the heads off their toys.

"Check my toolbox. And put the cutter back when you're done with it. As well as anything else you take out of there."
Hook takes another swig of high-grade, then reaches randomly into the pile of junk to see what he comes up with. Ah, a- thingy!
This is why Hook doesn't do surgery with assistants while drunk. His ability to give instructions beyond 'thingy' gets impaired.

Mixmaster's already rifling through his own basic tools, the ones any self-respecting tech would never leave home without. He pulls out his own cutter with a triumphant noise and offers Hook a bright smile.
"Ah, no need, Hook! I have mine right here, see?" He holds up the cutter and tilts his head curiously, "I just wanted to make certain you had yours." Mixmaster brightens his optics in a friendly manner and turns to his tire, flicking on the laser blade. "Better safe than sorry, right-right?"
And with that Mixmaster slides the blade smoothly into his tire. A thick odor immediately fills the air as Mixmaster begins to slice the rubber from the rusted metal hubcap; humming happily at the world in general.

"Should I make that your epitaph? 'Mixmaster - he knew it was better to be safe than sorry but didn't give a turborat's hind leg'?"
The thingy is not entirely useful for his current needs, but a bit of creative welding and cutting should fix that problem.

"You'd give me an epitaph, Hook?" Mixmaster smiles, "I didn't know you cared so much!"
Yes, Mixmaster is getting drunk. No, he's not quite at the stage where he's willing to throw his life away by glomping a Hook with nice, shiny, hardhotsharp things within easy reach. (Though he does lean consideringly in Hook's direction.) So the chemist contents himself by cutting a small bit of rubber from his tire and depositing it into his cube.
It hisses, pops, and makes threatening gurgling noises. Mixmaster ignores it and tilts his head in Hook's direction, gesturing to the...thing. "A-are you sure you should be doing that?"

"Of course I should be doing this. How else am I going to boost the output power of this microwave emitter?"
Are boosted microwave emitters needed for making transmogrifiers? Perhaps the better question is: is Hook still trying to make a transmogrifier?
"What are you doing to your energon?" Hook picks up his own cube and sets it on the side away from Mixmaster. The chemist won't taint his drink!

Mixmaster peers at Hook's device for a moment, and then looks back at Hook with a curious hum, "I'm not entirely sure." He's referring to his energon, which has now started to froth dangerously and is liable to spill over at any moment.
There's a moment of staring with a frown across Hook's lap, better known as the general location to where Hook's cube had been moved. "I think it needs a swirly antenna, I do." And whether this has anything at all to do with Hook's Kinda-Sorta-Maybe Transmogrifier is pretty debatable.

"If you're not sure, then why are you doing it in the first place?"
Hmm. Maybe it does need a swirly antenna. Hook's device, not Mixmaster's drink. He'll get right on that when he's finished with this.

Mixmaster flickers his optics consideringly, and reaches for a melted bit of metal that just within his reach.
"The best discoveries are sometimes made on accident, Hook!" Mixmaster chirrups, and settles the metal in front of him. The energon has now gone over the edge of the cube and is stinging Mximaster's fingers a bit. The chemist eyes the metal consideringly.
"Did you need this?"

"Simply because some of the best discoveries are made by accident does not mean one should flail about randomly. There are just as many important discoveries made by actual scientific process," Hook lectures. He twists wires together between his amplified microwave emitter and something else he's grabbed from the junk pile. The smooth, non-metallic feel of the wire insulation is just fascinating.
"No. Probably not."

"Oh, good."
Mixmaster takes the hubcap from the remains of his tire and tucks the metal scrap piece into it firmly. "Though not best way to make great discoveries, it is certainly the [i[]funnest[/i] way, yes?" Mixmaster takes a moment to look at Hook's work, and tilts his head curiously. "And now what are you doing, hmm?"
And, yes, Mixmaster has just poured the frothing, angrily gurgling 'drink' onto the stabilized metal piece while talking. It hisses. It sparks. It even flames a bit.
Mixmaster shoves it towards Hook with his foot.
