I'm finally facing the fact that I can no longer do anything with the Skyfire I apped. He just doesn't interest me any more; I can't get a handle on his personality. I was going to just drop him, so someone else could pick him up if they wanted to, and I may still do that. However, it occurs to me if he's boring me as is, I, as his player, can change that.
(So, if anyone wants to pick up Skyfire as he is, let me know.)
Failing that, I'd like to change him, make him more interesting... by which I mean alter his personality drastically and probably violently. Or, get him killed heroically.
Anyone have any evil plots they'd like to inflict on Skyfire? Re-programming, possession by alien entities, core transplant, slow drift into insanity... I'm open to all kinds of possibilities and abuse of the character.
Admins, what are my limits here, if any?

I think there are a few different directions you could take him, even within canon.
So he's an explorer. He was willing enough to join the Decepticons. Maybe he doesn't mind fighting. Maybe he likes fighting. Maybe he's sort of a space cowboy, riding (flying) out on the frontier, getting into fist fights with aliens, and later buying them some SPACE beers to get them to talk about their cultures. He doesn't have a be a reserved scientist. He could be a more boisterous frontiersman, more like a Lewis and Clark than a modern scientist.
Or he could be more like a fantasy ranger, like Aragorn. He could be quiet and reserved but willing to swoop in and help when the weak and innocent are endangered, keeping the wild areas safe, a friend to nature.
Alternatively, maybe he decides that he wants to learn how to be a medic and become the Great White Flying Ambulance and do rescue work. Then he could hang out with Holi and do rescue stuff.
Maybe he wants to do more hardcore science and hangs out with Perceptor.
I'd be okay with him ending up tainted or corrupted temporarily by a villain. For example, if we ever had the Fallen show up, maybe Skyfire could make a dark pact in his quest for knowledge. And possibly end up on fire as a result.
I wouldn't want to see any hugely drastic changes, in case you ever dropped him and someone else wanted to play him. So if he was corrupted, for example, I would probably want to see him eventually atone and maybe realise that making pacts with dudes who are on fire is a bad idea.
He could have a temporary rebuild as something else and see another side of life, but I'd eventually want to see him go back to where he is, in looks more or less.
So I suppose the main limit would be to either make changes gradual OR make them in keeping with the general nebulous idea of an explorer OR make them temporary. And temporary could actually last a very, very long time, as long as there's an end in sight.
Like, you could have him run into some Lovecraftian space horror and completely flip his lid for a while, provided there's some slim chance he'll recover, years down the road.
If you exhaust all options, if you ever do want to kill Skyfire, I'd offer Spinister, but only as a last resort. Plan ZZ.

Or, you could explore the version of him put forward by his toy bio. He's always struck me as an adventurer of sorts. Sure, he has a base in science, but the impression I got from that bio was that he was a high-tech adventurer, who championed, and even heavily relied on the scientific advances he and his colleagues were making.
In a sense, I can see him as a kind of go-to guinea pig for the lab boys. If they develop anything new and ground-breaking, he's gonna be the first guy to volunteer to have it fitted onto him and take it out to field-test. And when he's fitted with the latest technology, he feels he can do anything. Maybe that's something you can play with.

Thanks for the discussions (and if anyone has anymore ideas, don't stop now).
I do think working on his boisterous explorer side might be good--as I remember from the cartoon, he did tend to be eager for a fight, too. I have thought about the tech spec thing, too, Windcharger; I think you're right. (I can just see him being Wheeljack's willing testbed...) (Which also reminds me that NASA's Starscream was a massively modified complete mutant of an F-15 by the time they were done with it, from being a testbed for *everything* )

NASA had a Starscream? That intrigues me - any chance you could elaborate on that? I Googled it, but came up empty.
It sounds like a variation of sorts on the X-Men's Blackbird jet, which may have started off as a factory-fresh SR-71, but became so heavily modified and loaded with Shi-ar tech that it was virtually unrecognisable.

On the 'boisterous explorer' discussion, it occurs to me that if he was willing to join the Decepticons on the basis of Starscream saying that being a warrior is more 'thrilling' than being an explorer, it's possible, too, that Skyfire is an explorer as opposed to a more traditional scientist in part because he does have a thrill-seeking component to his nature.

Maybe if you go the warrior-explorer route, perhaps Skyfire could get rebuilt into his toy body? I don't know how agile his current mode is, but that could be a way for him to indulge his thrill-seeking side as well. (Valkyries were some speedy maneverable buggers in Macross.)

As a side note, I know that Emirate Xaaron said that the 'drastic change' route would have to be temporary, but if we're talking about a 'drastic event' that basically provides you with an excuse to play him as a different spin off the character from canon (say, the suggestions Emirate Xaaron made, or Windcharger's ideas), that would be fine. It's up to you whether you want to explain the difference in behavior or not. If he were to be transferred to a new player, for example, there would no doubt be some differences in behavior that would be best just overlooked, and we could do similar here. Or you could actually run a plot explaining the change, which may be more interesting. In this case, we wouldn't really worry about reversibility, long or short term.
As for the rebuild suggestion, here: He could have a temporary rebuild as something else and see another side of life, but I'd eventually want to see him go back to where he is, in looks more or less. Now, remember, 'eventually' still might be a very long time in the future (or, say, when he gets dropped).
Mind you, he's valid for at least one upgrade by now, anyway, so that sort of change can easily be permanent.
