Blurr starts pacing. It's pretty frustrating to hear about all this. Upsetting. Unsettling. Pointless to get too wound up over it, all things considered, but impossible to not get wound up over it anyway.
"Galvatron all by himself in the past. I really really don't like the sound of that."

Blurr's pacing is faster than most people's racing, so Rodimus doesn't even bother watching. Instead, he just looks towards the mock-window.
"I didn't like it either," Rodimus allows, "but I had things in our time to deal with. The details aren't all that important, but the short version is that Cyclonus and Scourge also managed to find a way into the past."
Then he looks at Blurr. Well. For half a second.
"Without using mass displacement." Then he gazes at the void again. "Before too long, we started getting the hints of a temporal distortion on a massive scale. Quintessa was destroyed. Cybertron and Earth were endangered. Our instruments told this it was all happening in two times: ours, and the late nineteen eighties. The time when Galvatron and his goons were.
"This time I took a larger group. The whole universe was at risk, after all! You, me, Kup, Arcee, Ultra Magnus, and Red Alert. We went to the past and, after an unfortunate misunderstanding, teamed up with the Autobots of that time, and even Decepticons of both our times and then. We all knew what was at stake, but worse, Galvatron had teamed up with Megatron, and Scourge and Cyclonus went missing."
He smirks. "The battle was pretty fierce, even with Optimus Prime passing from Limbo into our universe and taking up battle against Galvatron. Meanwhile, the distortion got worse and worse. In the end, it wasn't us, or Optimus, or the Wreckers, or the Mayhems who defeated Galvatron - he was ripped apart by the temporal vortex he had created. Scourge threw himself in it. And then Shockwave showed up out of nowhere and threw Cyclonus's body in it - his apparently dead body. Then he fired a radiation blast at the thing, it sealed, and we returned home."
Then Rodimus lowers his head and his shoulders slumped.
"Only home was gone. Our entire history between 2005 and 2009 was rewritten - overwritten, and replaced by something much, much worse."

"…Replaced?" Blurr's expression is curiosity tinged with dread; all that effort, all the fighting, and everything they know is simply wiped out? Erased? Just like that? Haywire shares his partner's sentiments, but he stays where he is, not quite feeling he should step in even though he'd like to inject a little optimism here. This is his future, too, but Rodimus and Blurr are the ones with history. Really, if none of this involved Haywire, he'd have just left them to have their reunion in peace.
Maybe some other time. He can go meet people – maybe even some girls? – while the Autobots talk.
While Haywire distracts himself with the thought of finding someone he can chat up, Blurr is distracting himself with just how much worse things could have become while the Autobots were away saving the universe. Blurr can imagine quite a lot of things in very little time.
"What happened to it? Us? What changed and how did it change and – well I guess I already know how things changed since you already said they changed for the worse so what happened to home?"

"All the, uhm, replaced bits are still in your future, anyway," Rodimus explains to Blurr, finally turning to stride towards one of the seats and settles in. "I'm... not sure what happened in the new history. We all still remembered the old one, after all. But somehow when the time rift healed itself, it did so in such a way that Galvatron never went to the past that second time. So we left a Cybertron where the Autobots and the Decepticons held roughly equal area, and since they were down to Soundwave as a leader, we were regaining the upper hand."
"We returned to a Cybertron with the Decepticons in complete control, Galvatron over them all."
Rodimus hesitates. He's now getting to the part of the story he's been dreading the most, and the part that he most needs to tell. But even if they do return everyone to their own times, with the way Unicron is set to erase memories as soon as Blurr hits his hometime, does he even have a chance to change his future?

Blurr watches Rodimus and listens to the description with a sense of dread that he can't seem to shake. Too many ideas of what could have happened in the past – future? – Rodimus can't tell him. Too many ideas of what the Decepticons could manage flashing through his mind and it all boils down to that one horrible notion. Galvatron in charge. Galvatron in charge.
And Cybertron lost to him.
"Oh no," Blurr exhales, optics wide.
"…What about the Autobots?" Haywire asks tentatively, looking for the silver lining. There's always a silver lining somewhere.

Rodimus remains seated, but he no longer looks at the stars. Nor is he trying to look at the often pacing, hard-to-track speedster. He looks only at the floor.
"Some left," Rodimus answers tiredly. "Dispersed underground rebellion groups. Like it was... back when the Ark crew woke up, really. Before we were driven out completely."
"We made contact with the Autobots of the new history, worked to get them organized... they were broken, largely leaderless. I... I don't know if the reason I was missing in that history was because I was in the past and time didn't duplicate me, or because... because Galvatron had killed me. I think it's the former, since Galvatron never said anything to suggest he thought I should be dead."
"Communications among the groups were difficult, and radio can be tapped, so we relied on courier a lot," Rodimus explains, still not looking up. Blurr should know what that means. After all, his primary function is to serve in just such a situation. "And then... and then the couriers stopped reporting back, and we lost all contact with the other groups."
Rodimus leans forward, crossing his arms in front of him on his knees, just a step away from the fetal position.
"Then Galvatron showed up on our doorstep and... and..." He shuts down his optics. "Blurr, he threw your head at my feet, and bragged about not leaving enough of the others to throw at me. He was trying to taunt me into a rage."
"It worked."
Rodimus falls silent for just a moment before he manages to force himself onward. "With Kup and Arcee's help, I recovered my senses, and we withdrew, from our base and from Cybertron. It wasn't until we were away that we could examine the head."
Now, one of those hands reaches up to cover Rodimus's face, and he trembles faintly under the force of the memory.
"The brain m-module was destroyed. Y-you were beyond recovery, Blurr," he croaks out miserably.

Blurr stops dead in his tracks, expression largely blank – Haywire makes up for it, jaw slack and eyes wide in numb horror – as he stares at Rodimus.
He wasn't fast enough after all. Isn't fast enough. Won't be fast enough. Not fast enough to stay safe. He won't be able to keep ahead of trouble after all. And not only does he get killed, he does it at the worst possible time and when the other Autobots need him the most. It's like a punch in the gut.
Those thoughts pass in a split second, followed by another, worse blow at the sight of Rodimus hunched over like that. Blurr is at his friend's side faster than Haywire can blink, dropping to one knee and clasping both hands on Rodimus's shoulders. So he's going to die someday. Maybe he's going to die; he can certainly do his best to change that, and his best is pretty good if he says so himself. But that's still in his future. Rodimus is right here and hurting because it's in his past. He's already lost his friend. While Blurr can imagine how horrible it must feel, he doesn't want to think of it.
He should say something. Something reassuring, something to console Rodimus. But for once, he can't even think of anything to say. He just tightens his grip, trying to remind Rodimus that he's here now and alive.

It takes a few moments before Rodimus even seems to notice Blurr's attempt to comfort them. Then, those long moments passed, he lifts his head, his tired, loss filled expression laid naked for an instant, then reaches forward and once more grabs Blurr up in a tight hug, like he's afraid of the speedster suddenly vanishing.
Perhaps now Blurr understands the reason for it before.
Rodimus holds his lost fight tight for a few moments before he relaxes his grip. He sighs. "Not much else to say." Well, much else that Rodimus is allowed to say. "We were forced off Cybertron, but we re-established a foothold later on. Galvatron was eventually taken out," by Unicron, "and at the point where I was pulled from, we were making progress once again, actually back to winning more than we were losing."
He shakes his head, and once more the grip tightens. "The price has been... so high, though. Too high."

Blurr doesn't put up any resistance, even when he thinks he can't possibly be squeezed any tighter without his armour warping. If he'd lost Hot Rod like that and then got him back, he'd probably want to hug the stuffings out of him, too. So with a split-second hesitation – it's the Prime thing – he drapes his arms over Rodimus's shoulder to return the hug.
But the Autobots didn't stop fighting. Don't stop. They carry on just fine. That… that actually makes him feel a little better about dying. He'd still rather not die, but at least the others are okay without him.
"I guess I should just– oof!" Rodimus really did miss him, didn't he? "I guess I should just run faster," Blurr says, trying to be light-hearted about it. He doesn't want to die. More speed is the answer to nearly all of his troubles. This time won't be much different, will it?

Rodimus gives a faint smile as Blurr provides his solution. That's Blurr all over!
"We don't even know how we're getting back, or how long we'll be here," Rodimus answers, finally relaxing his hold. "The Decepticons are here, and we can't just leave this reality to be ravaged by them. That, and any Decepticon from our reality's past going back may be a direct threat to us."
He looks at Blurr as he leans back in his seat, then sighs. "The problem is if things go the way they did, when you get back, Unicron is going to wipe your memory of the trip to the past, and that might include this." He rubs his chin and considers this. "Maybe if we were to plant something on you, something physical, tuck it away inside your circuitry..." he murmurs, trailing off.

Once released, Blurr jokingly stretches his back and tweaks his neck, all with a lopsided grin on his face. Nothing pops because nothing was actually thrown out of alignment, but he can't resist trying to poke a real smile from Rodimus.
"Has anyone gone back yet?" he wonders. "Gone back like they got here, I mean. Like I got here, just disappeared into thin air instead of coming out of it. Because if we could end up being sent back any time then I'm all for putting a rush on that but maybe we could, you know, leave out sticking things into my circuits unless we absolutely have to stick things into my circuits." It isn't the most comforting thought, he decides, lacing his fingers behind his head to disguise his uneasy shrug as he adds, "Be nice if we could avoid that but if we have to then we have to." His grin turns into something more like a cocky smirk. "And in the meantime I can lend a hand with that Decepticon problem."

Rodimus does smile (or at least smirk) faintly as Blurr tweaks his neck, and in that smirk is a hint of the Hot Rod that Blurr knows. He shakes his head at the Speedster's question.
"No vanishings. All arrivals." He pauses. "Not all of them live arrivals, either, so you need to be ready for an unpleasant surprise if you get put on rock watch." Ooooh, boy, won't the hyperactive one enjoy that? But then, when the two of them had been left to guard the Ark, it was Blurr who had the patience to stay put and Hot Rod who had gone rushing off, wasn't it?
Rodimus straightens. "So... no hurry, I guess. It's just.... something to think about, at some point." He reaches over to put a hand on Blurr's shoulder, a friendly, comforting move, but more to reassure himself (once again) of Blurr's reality than anything else.
"I suppose that's about it. You're probably going to be in Communications-Intelligence, which means you'll be reporting to Rattrap..." his optics widen. "Rattrap! Okay, uhm... you'll need to know about the Maximals, then."

How could Blurr possibly be bored on Ark duty when he has all those monitors and screens to watch? So much going on at once is just about perfect for him; it means he doesn't have to worry about slowing down too much. There… was quite a bit less to pay attention to in the rock room. He grimaces at the thought of being stuck on watch in there.
"I'll keep that in mind," he mutters, "Wouldn't want to forget just in time to meet, say, my own head. That wouldn't pretty at all." Is he rubbing his throat? Maybe, but he does it so quickly that anyone, even watching him, would be hard-pressed to notice. Rodimus's touch is a welcome distraction from those thoughts and Blurr looks up again, one brow cocked. "…Maximals?" he repeats. "Enlighten me then – what's a Maximal?"

"The easiest way to describe them is that they're kind of like Micromasters with Pretender-shells for alternate modes instead of completely separate shells," Rodimus explains to Blurr, shrugging. "They claim to be the descendants of Autobots in some realities. They're smaller, and most can transform into animal modes that are almost indistinguishable from the real animals." Besides the occasional unusual size.
Rodimus lowers his hand and goes back to sitting down, but now he's more casual, calmer in his movements. "On the other hand, a couple of them look like metallic versions of those animals, and then there's Botanica- she's, like, integrated techorganic in both modes, and her alternate mode is a mobile plant."
Then he shrugs up at the speedster. "Although her robot mode is pretty plantlike, too."

Micromasters that turn into Pretender shells that look just like regular animals. Except for the ones that look like shiny animals. Makes perfect sense.
Mostly.
A Transformer who turns into a plant is slightly less easy to wrap his head around and he makes a baffled face, rubbing his chin with one hand. Who knew that was even possible? It must be possible somewhere since Botanica has managed to pull it off, but even in a universe packed with super-powered humans and time travel, that doesn't sound terribly likely.
"Okay then!" Blurr pronounces. "So I watch for a rat – I'm guessing Rattrap turns into a rat what with the name and all, or am I wrong and he turns into a cat or a rat-hunting dog or a snake or something else that traps rats?" Wait 'til Blurr finds out his commanding officer is shorter than Haywire! "You know… I'm starting to think this place is a little weird," he adds, grinning. He'd take a seat, too, but he'd just be out of it again in no time. He picks a spot near Rodimus and leans against the sofa instead. For a few moments.
"Hey, I'll take weird over… well, the alternative," says Haywire. Blurr nods wordless agreement and pats Rodimus's shoulder.
"Well whatever happens," Blurr reassures Rodimus, "you know you can count on me!"
