"D-dance?" perceptor asks, surprised enough to pause his work and shoot her a glance. "Oh... I know some dances..." Like the Saturday Night Fever, lords help us all...
"But I am not a significant....errr.... 'fan' of dancing, really. But I thank you for the offer."
He is quite happy to answer any of her questions as he works, and sometimes he probably answers them before she even asks, since he is in the habit of speaking to his work. As she starts playing music, however, she might note that he isn't quite dancing, and isn't quite even moving to the music, but there is a noticible state of relaxation seeping into his frame.
"Please remind me to obtain copies of those tracks from you before you leave?" he asks as he closes the access panel on that first satellite dish and turns back toward her.

"OH, that's ok, I thought I'd offer, at least, yanno?" she waves her hand a bit. She goes back to watching. She goes back to watching and occasionally asking.
Once or twice she even says what she thinks is proper and then asking if she was right. "So, once you put that wire connecting there... It amplifies that frequency, right?" she asks softly, and nervously, hoping that she's made a right connection.
She dips her head low once he's done with the first one, letting him easily get her other dish. "I'll be glad to give you music," she says, a smile in her voice that grows bigger by the second. "I have all sorts of it, but I'm guessing you want the science themed songs?" She giggles happily.

"Yes, exactly so," he answers, nodding.
"And, yes, I would appreciate the science themed music initially," he agrees, returning to her side to reattach the first dish. It takes a few monir adjustments of the connections, and a brief tweak (yes, it's a technical term!) of the interface circuits, however, before he removes the second dish, the first is replaced and hooked back up.

"YES!" She clenches her fist in triumph, swinging it back in that familiar 'score!' motion.
Once the first dish is attached and the second is off, she works on adjusting it to get back to a normal feeling. She doesn't give the enhanced hearing a try yet, but adjusts it a little bit. The ponytail-dish wiggles a little as she smiles.
"I can give you science-theme-esque techno music too... No words so you don't feel compelled to sing in the middle of work," she says, playing a song that occasionally has the sounds of a 'singing Tesla coil' as part of it.

Perceptor smiles at Firebolt's happy reaction, nodding with grattitude at her suggestion. "If you happen to have any classical or... hrmm... what is it that it was called? Ah, yes, 'operetic rock', I would also be interested in that." He'd rather comed to enjoy that group "Nightwish" oddly enough.
And now, it is time to get to work on the second dish, which he does by popping open the access panels and starting to replicate everything he had done on the first.

"You name it, I got it," she boasts a little bit, and starts poking through her files as she watches him work. Classical music starts to play, Mozart, Bach, and the like. She looks to him a bit nervously, hoping for approval that these songs are good to play.
She leans forward, peering at the dish. Again the questions start up, as well as statements added in here and there about if she's figuring out things properly. "If I don't ask questions, how can I learn?" she asks in between the science-questions.

Perceptor definitely appreciates the music as he works, happily answering her questions whenever she asks, and agreeing with her hypothesis about questioning his actions in the first place. By the time he is making the last adjustments and connecting the final buss fuses, he is walking her through everything he does with careful clear explanations, and even has her solder in, under his supervision, the last few connections.
"Ready to have it replaced?" he asks as he screws shut the last access panel.

Firebolt's hands shake a little as she works carefully, but gets a little more confident after the first wire is in place. She relaxes somewhat when she's done, not wanting to have messed that up. She seems quite proud of herself though!
"Yup yup," she says, bowing her head low again and starting to get ready to start up her systems for them.

"Excellent!" Perceptor replies. Attaching the second dish goes even more quickly than the first, and in no time at all, Firebolt is back to her pig-tailed self.
"There you are. Now, if you could run a quick compatability scan to update the software with the patch hardwired into the components, I think you will find that they will integrate into your systems seamlessly."

Firebolt's optics dim as she starts a scan, making sure everything works. The ponytails twitch and then fan out into their dish forms. She's about to give him a thumbs up when she activates the programming to 'listen' and then reels, grabbing at the sides of her head.
"Sweet mother of all things good and car!" She gasps, as she squints her optics shut. "I CAN HEAR EVERYTHING."
Well, not so much everything as much more than before. She can hear the hum of the ship's engines so far away, she can hear footsteps of other 'Bots wherever they are, and on a closer scale, she can even hear the tiny clicks of metal in Perceptor's movements. It's very overwhelming, so much so that she curls up still holding the sides of her head, and puts her chin on her knees.
"It's... It's... S'Loud...!!" She says softly, staring down at the floor.

Perceptor nods as if he had expected such a response. Considering that he had designed thew modificatons, he had.
"That is because you still must create and initiate filters. You are currently not nonly hearing everything, but you are noticing those noises as well. Filters will establish which sounds and levels of sounds you wish to ignore unless you choose to increase the sensitivity. That is part of the software patch which should be registering in your systems now."

Firebolt whimpers a little as she dims her optics again, and then starts working on filtering the sounds around her. Her internal systems start working, making filters for the mundane noises, as well as tuning down the sensitivity of things that she's hearing. It's a few moments before she finally sits up and her dishes fold up into their ponytail forms.
"I think I have the basic patches in, so the loud stuff doesn't scare me," she says, putting her hand on the side of her head. She flinches a little, still hearing things that weren't normal for her and not liking it.
"Perceptor..." She whines a bit again but more in a 'help me' instead of annoying way, and then asks about a bit of complicated filtering, which should properly filter out loud, scary noises and letting her not have a similar range of hearing to before the upgrade, hoping she's gotten the idea right before implementing it. "I wanna make sure that those updates will work out properly... I don't wanna mess myself up!"

"Remain calm," Perceptor soothes, patting her arm in a comforting gesture. "The filters are only part of the adjustment. You must also allow yourself to grow accustomed to the new sound sensitivity as well."
He watches carefully as she continues to go through her programming and answers her questions calmly and confidently, adding, "Fortunately, if a filter is incorrectly applied, it is a simple matter to deinitialize it and rebuild that filter again. Simply work one stage at a time until you find an appropriate level of equilibrium."

"Ok, I'll try my best," she says, and then stops herself. She shakes her head. "Not just try!" She says confidently and straightens up. "I will do my best!" She looks over at him, tilting her head to the side, "Hangin' with you makes me want to do my best, and even better."
She glances away, looking embarrassed, "I know that sounded dumb, sorry," she mumbles, and then goes back to creating sound filters, flinching every once in a while at sounds in the entire ship.

Perceptor is scuffing his foot nervously again, a little overwhelmed by Firebolt's admission. "Not dumb," he corrects. It feels odd to be admired in any such manner, especially when so many individuals have a hard enough time merely tolerating his presence when he wanders off on one of his little - not so little - intellectual meanderings.
He stops himself before he continues with what he'd been planning on adding, that it was perhaps a little misguided, but not dumb. Firebolt obviously has confidence issues, and he does not wish to inadvertantly worsen them with a misunderstood comment based in his own confidence failings.
Yes, for once, Perceptor keeps his big mouth shut. Be amazed.
