Spinister unceremoniously drops Counterpunch, and immediately, he asks, "Why did you attack Lugnut?"

Counterpunch is dropped! He clatters into a pile, then shifts into a sitting position, from which he glared up at Spinister as best a faceless man can glare.
"Because he insulted me!" Counterpunch snaps. "Several times!"

Spinister knows well how well a faceless man can glare.
He inquires patiently, like he has all day, "Why did Lugnut insult you?"

Counterpunch snorts. "Because I wasn't falling all over myself adoring his Megatron, or whatever," he scoffs. "'Cos, y'know, I'm supposed to fall to my knees and worship some 'Con I ain't never met. Also because I ain't from his reality, so, y'know, I'm supposed to be some sort of inferior sort or something." Then Counterpunch tilts his head and rubs his chin, narrowing the optic band that sits recessed from the rest of his face. "Actually, ain't sure if he actually said that part, or if I was just reacting to his general attitude with that one. I was pretty pissed at the time."

See, Counterpunch has an excellent point here. One of the major flaws of witnesses is that they rarely remember what actually happened. They remember what they think they saw. The questions that the inquisitor asks can easily influence the memory itself.
Where did the man go with the red car?
And the witness will cheerily tell you that they went left.
But there was ever a red car. The car was blue.
Counterpunch is unusually perceptive to admit that his memories may be inaccurate. Or... is he lying now and saying his memories are inaccurate to get off the hook later on?
"Unusual," Spinister finally says.
"Do you have any idea how often you do that?"

"What's unusual?" Counterpunch asks, peering up at Spinister. "He's usually an arrogant zealot and I'm usually pissed. Pretty much everything going on down there was born outta usual. And what do you mean, how often do I do that? How often do I do what? Get pissed?" Counterpunch's confusion seems genuine, but he's studying Spinister with a fair amount of intensity as he searches for an answer.

"Unusual that you realise memory is fallible," Spinister comments, looking Counterpunch over. It really doesn't fit Counterpunch's demeanour as a dumb, irritable thug, a Stunticon washout.
Spinister isn't just studying Counterpunch. Counterpunch is studying Spinister back. Spinister doesn't like it.
"How often are you aware that your memories may be inaccurate?"

"What the... what the blazes kind of question is that?!" Counterpunch demands angrily, his temper flaring up. "I'm aware of it when I think about it! It's not like I keep count or anything!" No, he's usually paying attention to other things.
Counterpunch pulls himself off the floor angrily. "This is a waste of leakin' time," he grumbles, turning to storm towards the exit.

Counterpunch turned his back on Spinister.
That was foolish.
Spinister isn't any great shakes in meelee combat, but he does pivot and attempt to forcibly plant his foot on the small of Counterpunch's back, to topple over the car Decepticon. Spinister would like to be able to loom over Counterpunch as he says this, very quietly:
"Don't ever play dumb around me again."

Counterpunch is kicked in the back and toppled over! He places his hands on either side of his chest, ready to push himself up off the floor, and turns his head back and up to glower up at Spinister.
"What? I don't keep count!" he protests and repeats. Which is actually true enough. The awareness that perception is inherently flawed is so much a part of Counterpunch that he has to remind himself that there are other ways of thinking.

Spinister's optics narrow to slits, and his helicopter blades mantle closer together, up high.
Counterpunch is playing dumb. Spinister just told him to not play dumb.
Spinister tries to kick Counterpunch while he's down, and he fairly shouts, "Get out of my sight!"
That is what Counterpunch wants, Spinister is relatively sure. Counterpunch tried to leave earlier without being dismissed. However, Counterpunch is being too contrary to be of much use right now, unless Spinister really wants to sit him down for an interrogation. So. Let Counterpunch think that he has pushed Spinister's buttons to get what he wants. Someday, Counterpunch may find that big, red button isn't hooked up to anything at all.

Counterpunch is kicked in the back. Sure, he got what he was after, but then he was kicked in the back. Again.
Counterpunch's short temper is no act. Oh, he thinks it's an act, but it isn't. At the second kick, Counterpunch snarls, pushes himself off the ground, and springs towards Spinister. "I've had just about enough of this!!" he screams, pulling back to deliver a punch.
But not a Punch.

Spinister is no great shakes in melee combat. He gets punched, and he grunts. Doesn't seem like he even brought up his hand to block.
He didn't. He went for Singe. Spinister tries to press the nozzle of the flamethrower to Counterpunch's head, and he observes, "This can melt you into a puddle." He could have talked about how it is nuclear powered, how it can go up to 3200 degrees Fahrenheit, but really, that would take too long.
"Lugnut is Hook's for wrecking up Ship. For provoking Lugnut," and not getting away with it cleanly, "your skidplate is Hook's until he deems otherwise."

Counterpunch starts to throw a second punch, then stops still, freezing himself as he feels the flamethrower nozzle press into his head. His optic band widens a moment, and he lowers his hands. Slowly. Carefully.
At Spinister's declaration, he groans. Lugnut may not realize just how bad a punishment it is to be made to work for Hook, but Counterpunch is from the right reality to know.

Spinister shifts his grip on Singe so that he can attempt to put an arm around Counterpunch's arm and none-too-gently push him out of the booth, fairly beaming.
If he gets out, he calls to Hook, "Lord Hook, Counterpunch just volunteered to work for you, to make up for provoking Lugnut."
Counterpunch did no such thing, but people need to learn that Spinister will not be laid a hand on.
He adds over a private radio to Hook, <<He's smarter than he looks but tries to hide it. At worst, you can have him scrub floors.>> Spinister assumes that Hook has an infinite supply of degrading menial work at his fingertips.
