Grimlock makes a wave of his hand at Kup, squatting and launching into the air, taking off before either Kup or Swerve. If he went with Kup, he'd weigh the pickup down, and slow them down. Grimlock can pull his own weight!

Swerve throws a foul look in answer to Kup's snarl.
"Didn't wanna get too far ahead o' ya, oldtimer!" he snarls right back before taking a running leap. It's the hardest he's pushed his transformation yet, with gears and joints grinding in protest at the forced speed. He's in racer mode before he touches the ground and that's all that matters to him; front bumper scrapes, tires spin and bark, then gain traction and he's off like a shot for the base.

As stated, the moment Kup knows Grimlock's choice is the moment Kup peels out. Not that the head start is significant enough to keep the racer from overtaking him, although he knew that would be the case. Speed isn't a pride-point for him. Nor he far enough ahead to miss Swerve's sharp retort.
He... chuckles.
That Swerve is showing even that much consideration for teamwork, even if it's primarily through snark, is rather encouraging, actually. But at this moment, the best they can accomplish is to get Holi back safely (and hopefully Hardwire back as a prisoner in the meanwhile), and the best way they can do that would be for those who can move faster to do so. As Kup drive, he moves out of the way, letting Swerve overtake him and take the lead.
Speed isn't a pride-point for him, and there are more important things at stake than bragging rights.
