And the Autobots can fly in some episodes of G1. Sometimes, you've just got to overlook these things.
"Good thinking, lad," Kup murmurs to Optimus, as he takes in the situation.
The problem with retreat is that the rust monster ran past Kup as he rolled out of the way, which means that it's now between him, at least, and any retreat. If Optimus is on the same side of the creature as Kup, he's blocked off, too. In fact, all three of them are on entirely the wrong side of the rust monster for retreat.1
The creature screams and then chitters as its hit by Boondocker's blast. Several segments are cracked and one is burned through badly enough that it's begun seeping. It continues chittering and shrieking as it turns towards Boondocker and starts charging towards him and the group, antennae waving wildly in front of it.
"Try to get past it! If we're on the other side, we've got more options!" Kup shouts as he subspaces his weapon, transforms, and tries to roll past on one side, swerving away from a antennae, then towards a leg. Maybe only the antennae affect the thing, and if not, hopefully he'll be able to swerve back away with no more than another streak of itchy rust.

Prime is on the same side as the others, yes. And now, he has a gun thrown at him. Prime catches the gun with his off-hand. He turns to face the creature. "Thanks, Boondocker..."
Prime's left-hand foam launcher retracts as a grapple launcher extends. It's aimed at the wall nearest to the creature. He yanks on the line with both arms, hopefully to yank a sizable chunk of the wall onto it.
"...But, I've got my own way of doing things."

Boondocker shrugs. "Suit'chyself!" He fires off another shot, aiming at the creature's face while his legs going in a circle to wind up backwards. He falls forward, transforming and stowing his weapon away. A swerve here and a hard acceleration there, and he's on the other side, though his truck roof got struck.
"Dagnabbit...!"

Kup does, indeed, strike the creature in the legs, and as he swerves away, a thick line of rust can be seen on his side to show for it. This means, however, that the creature itself is already unbalanced when Optimus Prime brings the side of the wall crashing into it, knocking it to its side. Boondocker's hit burns through one of the eyes, and otherwise skims off the top of the now off-balance creature.
At this point, Kup and Boondocker are on the camp-side of the creature, and Optimus Prime is on the other side. Kup spins into a transformation and turns to face the flailing beast. "You know," he murmurs, "this is starting to remind me of the bug hunts on Nitrallis Seven, his optics narrowed thoughtfully as he works to remember some details.
As for the creature itself, it is currently struggling just to get back on its feet, although the rather-long antennae still flail at anything within reach, leaving obvious rust-marks on the floor, the ceiling... and possibly nearby mechanoids.

Optimus holds up his axe, hoping to use it to catch the antennae before it hits his body. Better the weapon than the one weilding it, after all. "Well if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them!"
A few lashes from the antennae go along his arms, turning what was once just red into rust red. Optimus tucks his head in between his arms. Assuming some of the antennae wrap over the axe, Prime is going to extend it again and yank with both hands, hopefully severing something in the process.
Once that's done, he takes his (very damaged) axe and holds it as he moves, ready to cut off anything that might try and flail at him again as he dashed over to where the others are.

Boondocker's attempt to spin-transform like Kup doesn't quite go as smoothly. He staggers when he gets to his feet, clumsily getting out his other pistol. Boondocker chuckles a bit at Kup. "Heh, ah don' reckon y'all got a big ol' flyswatter left over from them hunts, do ya?"
Moving over to a spot behind the creature so that Optimus won't be in the line of fire, Boony holds his pistol up and takes some potshots at the base of the rust monster's antennae. Even if he can just knock one off, that's one less to worry about getting struck by.

One antenna does, indeed, wrap around the base of Optimus's axe, and when it's pulled, the creature screams and that antenna seems to go partially limp. Then, when Boondocker fires, it's pulled off completely, limp enough that Optimus should be able to shake it off his axe-handle without actually touching the thing. After all this, however, it seems likely that the handle will break soon.
"Bury it in metal, and it'll just rust its way out. Bury it in dirt, and it should stay put." Kup points behind the creature, just behind the turn where it had originally come from. "Tell me I'm not seeing things, lads. Looks like the thing's caused a partial collapse back there. What metal supports are left don't look like they're doing so good. If we can get that thing back down there, maybe we can cause a full collapse."
Kup jumps back as the creature strikes forward. Many wild animals would have turned and run at this point, but pain seems to be making this thing all the more aggressive. Then he pulls off a large chunk of wall. "Optimus, how much of that foam y'got? If we can make the floor slick enough, it'll be easier to push that thing. Boondocker, you'd better have four wheel drive, because we're gonna pretend to be a bulldozer here. I'll ride on top, use this," he shakes the chunk of metal he's pulled off for emphasis. "You think if we push it back, you'll be able to back up before Prime's grapple brings the ceiling down on us?"
Even as he talks, Kup is forced to take another step back to keep enough distance between himself and the creature.

Optimus takes a few steps back, stowing away his nearly completely damaged axe and transforming into a fully-fledged Fire Engine. "Hopefully, I have enough!" Another nozzle extends from the top of his cab, launching a thicker stream of foam onto the ground. Prime doesn't mind if a bit of it gets on the bug too. Hopefully it'll serve as a buffer of sorts and stop the corrosive body from interfering with their alloys. It's not perfect, but it might help.
The nozzle aims high, hopefully high enough to clear the creature and slick up the ground behind the it as well.

Boondocker grins, doing a victorious punch at the air at hitting the antennae, though his celebration is interrupted by Kup. "Yeah, ah got four-wheel drive." Stowing his pistol, he transforms into truck mode. "An' ah figger ah'll be able to get outta thar 'fore it comes down."
Kup places a hand on Boondocker's roof and jumping into the pickup's bed. Boondocker's engine hitches a bit. "Oooh, careful 'bout muh roof. Ugly critter got me there when I drove by earlier." Kup braces one foot in Boondocker's bed, the other planted on the roof.
"Y'all ready?" Boondocker asks, gunning his engine a bit.

Kup holds the sheet of metal in front of himself and Boondocker. "Go!" he shouts.
Boondocker's engine roars into life, and it's all Kup can do to keep his balance as the other pick-up surges forward.
The sheet of metal slams against the creature, and the two of them push it back, slowly at first, then faster. By the time they back it into the partially collapsed section, the sheet of metal Kup is using has a whole rusted through the middle, and is about to break in half.
"Boondocker, back up! Optimus, bring it down!" Kup orders.

"I'm on it!" The Fire engine partially transforms and two hands emerge from either side. Grapplers emerge and launch at the ceiling, wedging into what is hopefully weak spots.
The rig's tyres screech suddenly into reverse as it attempts to pull back on the grapplers.

Boondocker hits his brakes, and then his gears groan as he shifts to reverse, his tires screeching as well as he attempts to back up.
"Hang on, Kup! Dunno how well ah kin control m'self on this hyar foam!" A few moments pass as Boondocker just slings foam forward. Once he gets a bit of traction, he goes backwards, but wobbles a bit. Once he's clear of the area that Prime is trying to collapse, he brakes again and slides a few feet, back bumper hitting a wall lightly.
"Hoo..."

Kup throws the remains of the metal sheet at the creature as Boondocker starts to back-up, then crouches down and grabs hold of the side of Boondocker's cab to keep from being thrown off. The roof above the creature resists Optimus for a moment, then, with a shattering snapp and then a roar (that may send Optimus back at a faster speed than he was expecting) the top of the tunnel gives way, and tons of a dirt-metal mix come crashing down on the creature, pinning it in place, blocking that side tunnel, and kicking up a considerable amount of dust and dirt in its wake.
Once Boondocker and Prime have backed far enough away, once Boondocker comes to a stop, and once the dirt begins to settle, Kup jumps down out of the other pick-up and leans his back heavily against the wall.
Finally, he says, "Yup. Just like Nitrallis Seven." Then he turns towards the others and adds, "'Course, with those things it was acid, not rust, and there was a few more of 'em."

Optimus Prime transforms into robot mode as the grapplers drag along the ground and up into their homes in Prime's forearms.
"Phew!" Optimus disregards his own wounds, which are currently just surface damage on his arms. "Every 'bot okay?"

Once Kup dismounts, Boondocker transforms, noticing the front sections of his shoulders were rusted up from where he'd played bulldozer.
"Ah'm a lil' rusted up, but nothin' serious." He looks over at Kup, chuckling a bit. "Le's jus' hope that the one was all there was."
