Kup sits on an overturned box in one of the larger underground areas that the Autobots have been using, a high traffic spot that's been serving as something of a central gathering area. He puts the finishing touches on the latest patrol and watch roster, which he is currently writing on a sheet of metal so he can post. Once done, he frowns and looks up, accessing his chronometer to check the time.
He mutters, "Could have sworn I promised someone a story... thought they should have been here by now..."
OOC: Open to all Autobots. If possible, I'd like someone to claim to be the one he promised to tell a story to. Anyone else who wants to join can just be wandering through this large gathering place.
Takes place on Day 9.

After the whole mess with the alternates, Slingshot's mostly been staying out of the way once he got released from repair. He has been helping with toting and carrying, as well as flying patrols.
He wanders through the area, box tucked under one arm. "Hey."

Kup offers Slingshot up a casual smile. "Hello, lad," he says, tone welcoming. Not the person he had talked to earlier, but still, not an unwelcome face by any means.
"I've noticed you've been staying productive. Seems like I've hardly had a time to get in a word with you! So how've you been doing, anyway? All right, since everything went down?"

"Yeah. I guess." Slingshot shifts the box to under his other arm. "Just... doing stuff. Trying to get some flying time in."
Trying not to be scared that he's starting to forget how to fly with four other wingmates.

In an intersecting passageway, a confused Optimus Prime wanders past, barely aware that Kup and Slingshot are there. He enters the opposite tunnel and vanishes from sight.
...until a few seconds later, that is, when he backs out of the same tunnel, this time his optics firmly set on Kup and Slingshot.
"Oh, there you are, Kup. Sorry, these tunnels are difficult to navigate sometimes." He says, relieved. "I hope you haven't started without me." He makes his way over, saying nothing else lest he interrupt.

Kup's smile fades faintly at Slingshot's words. Or, more importantly, his tone, what goes unspoken. What had he told Emirate Xaaron? A study in separated gestalt member's social development? Something like that. He reaches for one of Slingshot's arms and murmurs, "Hang in there, lad," just as Optimus wanders past.
Kup lowers his arm and starts to stand to peer after Optimus, but he returns on his own. When the small Prime mentions starting, Kup shakes his head and chuckles. "Nope, nope," he answers, remaining standing. For now he leans against the nearest wall, but when he's standing, Kup is a very animated story teller - he probably won't be here long.
"So anything in particular you lads want to hear about," Kup asks, grinning, "or is it my pick?"

Humans have these creatures called "cats". Some of these creatures pick up the habit of coming to call as soon as they hear someone open a can of food.
Like this, Grimlock reacts as such when someone says "story".
So, through the grapevine, Grimlock heard something about Kup doing storytime, and has clanged around the tunnels, hunting for the Autobot elder, and he finally comes in. "There you are! Me Grimlock hear something about story!"
And he totally did not mention it to Slag 'cause he's still mad at him for making them get in trouble over Botanica's garden.

Slingshot has timed out, Optimus moves to post.
Optimus finds a comfortable part in the wall to rest his back on. "Why not a story about a great battle of the Autobots?" When the Dinobot stomps in, Optimus offers a nod in greeting. "Grimlock."

Kup's smile widens to an all out grin as Grimlock joins the group. "That's right, story, Grimlock. Why don't you come join us, Grimlock?" he asks, gesturing towards an empty section of wall. At Prime's request, the veteran gives a faint chuckle.
"Hmm. A lot of those, really..." he murmurs, "though depending on what period you're talking, it's better to pick an off-world affair than on - we weren't doing too well there for awhile, sad to say - though there was that business during the Siege of Dihadron... and then there was the Battle of the Radio Forests... not to mention the Attack on Outpost Three-One-Seven..." At this, Kup trails off, trying to decide which would make for the best story.

Optimus might not be too fussed about what story Kup tells. But he is fussed about the name Grimlock has assigned him. Issues of self-relevance aren't helped when you've got your olfactory sensor rubbed in it every time someone refers to you by the pet name they have for you.
"Uh you know, Grimlock..." Optimus shifts his weight from one leg to the other as he addresses the Dinobot, "I know having two Primes here is confusing.. but I was hoping you could just call me 'Optimus'.
Optimus' optics dart away from Grimlock's in embarrassment.

Kup rubs his chin thoughtfully. "Great battles, and petrorabbits. Yeah, I think I can dig up something that involves both..." then Kup brightens and snaps his fingers. "Oh, yeah! Krihidrex Ridge!"
He turns towards Optimus and Grimlock, right hand gesturing as he speaks. "Now, you see, Krihidrex was a Decepticon outpost back in the early part of the Third War. Pretty significant, because it oversaw Krihidri Pass, which was in a location to be a major supply route to either faction. Whoever held the Pass held, oh, a good sized chunk of Cybertron, wanna say something like a sixteenth? And, well, the problem was, the 'Cons took it early and made use of the layout. Very defensible, that region, which was rotten for us."
He doesn't step in on the name dispute, at least not yet, though you can bet he'll try to keep things from escalating too much.

Grimlock leans down as Optimus addresses him. Not really intimidative, just to get a better closer look. "Me Grimlock no confuse you with Rodimus. Me Grimlock no stupid, after all." He straightens up a bit. "You look like Optimus me Grimlock have back home, just you smaller than him."
Grimlock ponders a moment. "Little Optimus better?"
Oh, hey, the story is starting! Grimlock becomes focused on this, now forgetting about the name issue.

"Well, actually... 'Little Optimus' would be fine." Optimus decides to drop the subject rather than attempt to correct Grimlock. He'll get used to it, in time.
When the story starts, Optimus sits down. It's not a history vid, that's for sure, but that's not to say it's better or worse. Let's sit and find out...

Kup smiles faintly as the name business gets sorted, then the smile flees so that he can focus on the story.
"All right," he says, leaning forward. "So there we were, tail end of an extended siege against the outpost. We were dug in and dug in tight, but we had taken heavy losses to get that far. Lost a good third of our forces just setting up the defenses. A full scale assault on that place? Not without losing another third, and by then we wouldn't have enough left to take the outpost with. But we needed that outpost, see?" As Kup speaks, he gestures with his hands, becoming increasingly animated. He pushes himself away from the wall now, so he can pace while he spoke.
"What we needed," he stated solemnly, "was an edge. Something just numbers and firepower couldn't get it. We needed to find a way in that they wouldn't expect!"
