The familiar shape of Skyfire thundered overhead, heading for a landing near the town...

"If the Autobots of this reality are what the Decepticons are to us in our worlds.... isn't it natural to keep those who still have a function that you can use .... under your control?" Jazz shrugs, "Who owns me? That is a question I cannot answer without disappointing several who think they have a claim."
In truth, Jazz could answer with three syllables at the moment, however.... honesty is not this Autobot's forte.
"Loyalties are easily swayed. All I would have to do is hold title of 'Emperor', and you would follow even me?" Jazz watches Fleetwind carefully. Is the silver Autobot being careless? Perhaps. But there are some things that have to be tested.

The Seeker lifts his head, crouches slightly as though to spring, and narrows his optics at Skyfire's arrival. For a few moments, he is very tense - it is this same Skyfire who blasted a sizable whole through him recently enough, after all. Once he's sure he's in no danger, he relaxes, though not even as relaxed as he was before.
And he wasn't that relaxed before.
In response to Jazz's first question, Fleetwind snorts. "Usually, the only function defeated enemies have is as parts. Your Thundercracker still flies, and walks unchained. We'd not allow an Autobot wandering around similarly unless..." Fleetwind trails off and narrows his optics. He shrugs his right shoulder faintly, then goes on, "Anyway."
"My loyalty? It's not just the title 'Emperor.' It's the title 'Emperor of the Decepticons.' And you'd have to hold it, and show you can keep it, and show to me that you are less dangerous to me than rivals for the same position." Fleetwind smiles faintly, and shakes his head. "You could not do that."
Starscream holds Fleetwind's loyalty because Starscream is more capable of killing Fleetwind than any potential rivals. The Seeker can out fly Shockwave or Sky-byte and run from Scourge, should either of them make a grab. The same cannot be said of Starscream, and that, and nothing more, is the source of Fleetwind's loyalty.

"Perhaps I could not," Jazz makes a gesture that almost could be a shrug. The flight of Skyfire is nothing new. No disturbance there. Fleetwind's tension is noted for future reference, however. "Not that I would want to-- it's too dangerous."
"I would rather live."

A smile spreads across the Seeker's face. It's so rare to meet another that thinks in such a manner! Fleetwind inclines his head in agreement. "Exactly. Power makes one a target to those others who crave it."
He takes another leap, touching down on another rock, still closer to Jazz, still not exactly near, and narrows his optics and studies the other. Finally, the Seeker narrows his optics. He didn't see any Autobots of Wreckage's type back at the battle, but then, his focus had been on Omega Supreme, and he wouldn't have caught names, anyway. "What's your name, Autobot?"

"You don't recognize me." Jazz says thoughtfully, noting the smile. A like mind, perhaps. Fleetwind knows about hiding... "Perhaps I have no mirror image to face in this place..."
Or perhaps that incarnation of the silver and spikey Autobot wasn't saved by this reality's Perceptor. That would suit this Jazz just peachy keen fine and dandy. One less problem to face.
"My designation is 'Jazz'," the voice rasps after a moment's thought, almost sounding happy to not be familiar to this Decepticon. Almost, because if Jazz were happy about it, it would be better to hide the elation, rather than put it on display.

"Perhaps," Fleetwind answers in response to Jazz's musings. Or perhaps Fleetwind just hasn't encountered his alternate, but Fleetwind will not urge extra caution. If Jazz takes damage - or worse - from making fool assumptions, he deserves as much.
"I do know the name, 'Jazz,' but it seems to be a fairly common thing, around here, to know someone's name but not their face." Fleetwind smiles just faintly and nods towards the Autobot encampment. "And that, even before your bunch arrived."

Of course there will be assumptions. That's what led to this place in the first place.
Jazz is prepared for the possibility that things are completely different here. After all, this is /Fleetwind/ -- someone that the Autobot never would have expected to hold such a conversation with in any universe. Silver flashes as the visor gives an offhand glance towards the encampment, still keeping a wary perepheral gaze towards the yellow seeker build.
"I understand. There was ... brief confusion for us as well. The Prime gathered us together, however." Jazz turns the gaze back towards Fleetwind. "Friends from the future and the past as well as what might have been, had technology been different..."
The only 'path' is 'pathalogical' here. No psychopaths.
"Tell me about the music of the mountains of your world. Mine was silenced long ago." Jazz demands, in a mild tone. "I would like to hear about your home."

Fleetwind shakes his head, smile now a bit wistful. "Words fall short."
While Fleetwind lacks the fancy internal sound systems many land-vehicles have, but he does have a modest speaker, and he uses that to play a recording of Cybertron's singing mountains. It is an eerie, haunting noise made by the wind as it flows over metal, sometimes to be torturously torn by razor edges, sometimes gently caressed by solid slopes. Sometimes it almost sounds like voices, laughing, weeping... at one point screaming. Fleetwind allows the recording to go on for a full minute, a minute and a half, and then he cuts it off.
He shrugs. "When I left, my home was under attack by the world-killer. I am told that the world-killer will be defeated, but will still become lost to us, Decepticons."

Fleetwind has Jazz's rapt attention for that minute and a half.
It is sound. It is music of a sort that this Autobot hasn't heard before. Now Jazz can see-- or rather, hear-- why Fleetwind dislikes the silence of these organic hills.
"World-Killer?" Jazz frowns. In some of the realities that have met on the other side of the looking glass, that might refer to Rodimus Prime. The Prime is, after all, interested in destroying, just like many of those who follow him. "I am uncertain of that designation."

Ah, but even the mirror Rodimus once brought a Unicron low.
"Unicron," Fleetwind answers. "Chaos Bringer. Transforming planet-eating-planet. In some realities, a vast machine of destruction. In others, a god." The Seeker purses his lips, optics narrowed, brow knitted, as he studies the other Jazz. "Your lot hasn't been shown the images in the sky?"

Another half-shrug from Jazz.
"Images in the sky?" Jazz half smiles, the lies coming easily. "If there were any, I must have missed them." And steady. The gaze that is being fixed upon the silver Autobot is a light scrutiny. It is not as though Fleetwind has Perceptor's sensors, or Perceptor's... perceptions. No reason at all for the sudden discomfort, disguised by the tilting of a winged helm, and a question.
"Did what you see frighten you?"

Fleetwind narrows his optics and studies Jazz silently for long moments. Finally, right wing twitches in a shrug. "I'd be a fool not to have been frightened, and I am no fool," he answers coolly.
Fear can either make a person careless or careful. Fleetwind chooses to have it make him careful. He always fears, and he is always careful.
"And you don't fear?"

"Fear..." Jazz says slowly, "Is there anything else to life but fear, pain, and shadows?" That didn't sound so much like a question as a statement. The silver Autobot glances towards the encampment a bit more obviously now. "Hatred and rage can cancel such emotions as fear, however. And even fear can be overcome when necessary."
Of course Jazz has reasons to fear the light, the darkness, the Prime, the other Autobots, the relentless passage of time. The longer the destructive nature of the Prime is directed outward, the less likely it is that he will turn on his own troops.
"I am no fool, however even the most careful can be caught unawares." Jazz's visor remains fixated on the camp. "The World-killer has no presence in my home reality that I have found. How was it defeated? Chaos cannot be tamed."

"If you must keep to the shadows," Fleetwind murmurs. "For myself, I must have sky."
At Jazz's more direct question, Fleetwind gestures towards the edge of town, where it buts up against the forest of this world before those, in turn, are swallowed by mountain. "Chaos is tamed again and again, on a regular basis. See? Even the organics who once lived here did it," he says, pointing to the spot where the order of town suddenly gave way to the disorder of nature. "The problem is that keeping it tame takes active, continual effort. Without individuals here to upkeep the order, chaos will eventually overrun things once more."
"As for who killed the World-killer, I'm told that in my reality, it was Rodimus Prime. That's after my time, though."
