OOC: Month 2, Week 2, Day 4. One of the traditional training rooms on the Event Horizon. Open to Autobots/Maximals.
"All right, that's enough," Kup grunts, straightening up and reaching down, offering his hand to help the other off the floor. He is lightly scuffed from the training session he just finished, nothing more.
"Get some rest and get those dents hammered out. This stuff isn't going to stick if you don't take some time to get it defragmented."

Sentinel Prime is a proud, proud, proud bot, but right now, he's a proud bot with a busted tailpipe, so he sucks up his pride and takes that hand. He lies, "I get plenty of rest!"
He's getting more rest than he used to, anyway. It is not 'plenty'. Sentinel Prime will get the dents hammered out, though, for sure. Dents are not attractive, not like mysterious slashes down the face that go over the optic but don't impair vision in any way.
Sentinel Prime does finally remember something he's been meaning to ask Kup but keeps forgetting, "Say. Sir, did you ever have a Sentinel Prime? I mean, in your reality."

Kup sighs. "Just defragment yourself, Sentinel," he answers to the young Prime's protests, gathering up some of the equipment they had been using during the training. He glances up at Sentinel's question, however, and looks a little startled. "N-," he starts, and then cuts himself off.
The veteran opens up a supply cabinet and puts several of the tools inside before correcting himself thoughtfully. "Oh, yeah, wait. That's right, U-Haul changed his name to Sentinel later on, didn't he? So yeah, we did. Just wasn't the name that I got to know him under."

Sentinel Prime perks up a bit, despite behind exhausted. He leans himself against one of the walls and asks, letting his interest sound in his voice, "Yeah?"
Come on, Kup, tell Sentinel Prime an awesome story about his other self! Something to make up for the fact that he was apparently named something as dorky as U-Haul at one point. Jeez, that just makes Sentinel Prime happy he doesn't remember what his name was before Kup Minor renamed him.

"Yeah," Kup answers, closing the storage cabinet. "He was an old slagger. Ancient." And when Kup says someone is old, he means old. "Went back to the First War, though he didn't become a Prime until the Second One was finishing up. Wasn't even built a Transformer. Had to be upgraded with an alternate."
Kup shakes his head. "Absent-minded old codger. I'm thinking that might be why he didn't put up more fuss over some of the scrap the councils pulled during the so-called 'Golden Age.' Or maybe he agreed with him? I dunno. I mean, the Golden Age was pretty good times for a lot of folks. Even I gotta admit that. I just didn't think trying to pretend the Wars hadn't happened was the way to go." He turns towards Sentinel with a shrug.
"You forget the past, you can't learn from it."

Sentinel Prime looks visibly disappointed. His alternate self is just some old bot with bad memory and cool upgrades who aided and abetted a corrupt government? Who ran a corrupt government?
Wait.
Bad memory. (Couldn't even remember Bumblebee and Bulkhead were his students. Tried to name Jetstorm Jetfire right after he named Jetfire Jetfire.) Uh...
Cool upgrades. (The feelings Sentinel Prime has for his Skyboom Shield cannot be expressed in words! And are not safe for sanity in pictorial form.) Eh...
Went along with a corrupt government. Uhm...
Ran a corrupt government. Er...
Wow, that's actually what Sentinel Prime wanted to do all the way out to old age! Except now it sounds pathetic, when he hears it told to him like that. He rubs the side of his helmet, frowning, and he pointedly looks away from Kup, struggling for a reply, "That's... something?"

"Sure," Kup answers with a shrug. "Mind you, I'm not trying to be too down on the guy. I mean, he was the Prime who won us the Second War. It's the stuff that came after that kind of soured me."
He glances around the training room. Equipment put away, room itself is relatively clean (and if it isn't, that's someone else's job, anyway - probably whoever torques him off next).
"Why you asking, anyway? Collecting alternates?"

Sentinel Prime wouldn't want to train in a dirty room, anyway. He's a bit fussy.
Sentinel Prime shrugs obliquely, and he admits, "When most people hear 'Sentinel Prime', they're thinking someone else. Someone not me. I can't be that Sentinel Prime, so I'm... letting people down just by being me. Don't get me wrong, I, er..."
He rubs the back of his helmet and admits, voice dropping lower, "Optimus has it worse. But anyway." Sentinel Prime flicks his wrist dismissively. "...I guess I'm just looking for ideas to be the best me I can, so I'm not a let-down, just different?"
Sentinel Prime smiles at Kup innocently.

Kup inclines his head faintly and then tilts it, narrowing his optics and looking slightly upward, expression thoughtful and distant. "I suppose I see what you mean. I haven't had much of a problem m'self," mostly because every alternate Kup seems to be more or less like him, "but it's pretty frustration for those of you who keep having to deal with these expectations that you are what you ain't. Then you've got folks dealing with the other extreme, like Rodimus, who keeps running into folks who expect him to be a reckless young punk!"
Then he grins. "'Course, he is that, but rust-welts, he's one that managed to go and get ahold of a Matrix!"
He shakes his head. "Anyway... the Sentinel Prime I knew... by the time I knew him, he was already past his prime, erm, so to speak. I wouldn't worry too much about folks holding you up to his standard. We got a couple of 'Bots here what was pulled from the period when he was still around, but they're Golden Agers, and from what I can tell, he didn't do much during the Golden Age." He shrugs. He doesn't have first hand experience, because he wasn't on Cybertron at the time, but he's inclined to think that if Sentinel had made a bigger name for himself during the Golden Age, he'd have heard it from the others by now.

Kup has already grown up and attained his Ultimate Form: Badass Grandpa. It's hard to go wrong with that archetype.
Sentinel Prime points out, "From a tactical standpoint, it's better to be underestimated. People's opinion of you can only go up, socially, and you can surprise enemies more easily."
Uh... not that Sentinel Prime thinks about that stuff much, of course. He rubs the back of his helmet a bit more.
Yup, that's Rodimus Prime, blah blah blah, everyone likes him, blah blah blah, magic artifact that makes him awesome and has an evil god in it. Well, okay. That last part's a bit creepy, but the adulation and respect are to be envied!
Sentinel Prime crosses his arms and adds, a bit peevishly, "That's one Sentinel Prime I don't have to worry about, then."
He flashes back to Mirage telling him he's nothing like his Sentinel Prime and to Ultra Magnus trying to get him to bed and invoking his alternate.

Kup tilts his head slightly to the left and considers as Sentinel points out that it's better to be underestimated. True enough. It's why, despite his strength and his general toughness, he was designed with such a generally unassuming appearance. He nods. "Point," he allows.
Something about the lad's tone in the next statement, however, catches his attention, and his head snaps up, optics narrowed. "Folks been giving you grief over you not being your alternate?"

"My own Sentinel died a noble- if in my opinion unnecessary- death. While other Sentinel's are similar to mine, you are nothing at all like my own Sentinel, so I'd not be too bothered about universal constants," Mirage says, smirking slightly.- - - "I can't train someone who isn't well-rested. Even my Sentinel Prime insisted on it. Get some defrag,"- - - Then there's the distinct vibe that Jetfire the Elder doesn't consider him a real Prime and the only way he ever would is if Sentinel Prime stuffed a magic coconut full of dead guys and a monster god into his chest. No one likes a snitch. No one likes a snitch when that's not quite what happened, anyway. Sentinel Prime shrugs and insists, "I wouldn't call it grief." Mirage may have given him better, but Sentinel Prime gave him back all the same, and his issues with Ultra Magnus are... problems, not issues.

Well, Kup doesn't really consider someone a Prime unless they have the mystic coconut, either. Kup just makes an attempt to be less obvious about it.
He narrows his optics faintly as Sentinel claims that he 'wouldn't call it grief,' but then just gives a single, firm nod of his head. Whatever it is, if Sentinel would rather keep it his business, Kup can respect that, as long as it doesn't bring grief to the rest of the 'Bots.
"Well, then. Unless you've got something else, it looks like that's that."

Sentinel Prime keeps his expression blank and innocent as he can when Kup narrows his optics at him. When Kup gives him the out, he takes it. Sentinel Prime nods and shoves off the wall that he'd been leaning against. He gives a salute that's just a bit tired - deplorable, says, "See you around, Sir," and heads off to... probably not get any rest at all. - - - OOC: Wrap?

Kup just nods to Sentinel's salute. If Sentinel hasn't figured out Kup isn't keen on returning salutes (or on standing on formality) by now, he can stand there all day.
He watches Sentinel leave (assuming Sentinel does actually drop his salute and leaves), optics narrowed. He suspects that the lad won't be getting much rest, orders or no orders, but there are some things you just can't force people into.
(Short of knocking the punks out to force them into downtime, but Kup isn't to that point with Sentinel yet.)
OOC: Sure.
