Elita-1 smiles and nods at Long Haul, thanks him, then turns to Optimus Prime.
"No further question for this witness at the moment, Your Honor, though as always we reserve our right to recall or counter question later."
Your turn, Ultra Magnus.

Long Haul inclines his head briefly in response to Elita-1, then waits quietly, though he does occasionally shift uncomfortably in his seat.

Ultra Magnus looks and feels heavy as he rises from his seat and takes the floor, pausing several strides from the bench to avoid the appearance of looming – something his stature makes all too easy. The more thought he lends to this trial, the less he likes it. The less he likes the very idea of it. But here he is.
"Long Haul," he begins, then stops and shakes his head. He honestly isn't certain where to begin. "You said a moment ago," he goes on after a moment, "that this is not the Hook you know. Can you explain for us how he became this different person?" He does wonder why the prosecution never touched on that.

Long Haul peers up at Ultra Magnus. "Well, I can, but I only got the story second hand, y'know? Got told it by Perceptor, because I wasn't there for it." He hesitates and glances down, towards the floor.
"'Course, if I had been there for it, I wouldn't be me no more, neither."

"I'll rephrase, then," Magnus says with a stifled sigh. "Are you aware of the events that changed Hook?"

Long Haul dips his head in a single nod. "Yeah, I'm aware of 'em. Perceptor tol' me about 'em first night we were here." It's strange. A handful of years is a flash in the pan for a race as long-lived as the Transformers, but when the start of those years is the ending of another lifetime, it can seem forever.

Elita-1's optics narrow as she watches Ultra Magnus's back. She's paying very close attention to just what and more importantly just how the Defense is handling this.
Right now, they're skirting the edges of hearsay, but Elita-1 sits on the objection for now. Skirting the rules is perfectly allowable in a court of law, after all. But she's watching.

"Repeat for the court," Magnus says, carefully enunciating to keep his tack clear and gesturing with one hand toward the jury, "what Perceptor told you." He doesn't expect an expert evaluation; that's why Perceptor will be called to the stand later.

Elita-1 stands. "Objection on the grounds of hearsay, Your Honor."
She can see where Ultra Magnus may be going with this, so the judge might allow it. Narrow lines and all that.

"Merely establishing the witness's knowledge of events not covered by the prosecution's questioning," Magnus counters in a low rumble. "As he is a key character witness." Elita-1 went on a great deal about the fact that Hook changed; she never did touch on how. "Perceptor will be called later for expert testimony."

"Perceptor is indeed on the witness list, as is Omega Supreme, Your Honor, and Long Haul's knowledge of those particular events is at best third hand. As already proven, Long Haul has had several contacts with Hook in this reality, which was enough for Long Haul to determine a character change."

"Objection sustained," Optimus Prime says gravely. "The defense has established that Perceptor told Long Haul about the events in question. Long Haul cannot, however, give second-hand testimony about events he was not present for."

"I'm not asking Long Haul to give testimony of the event," Ultra Magnus says quietly, facing the judge's bench. Was his phrasing that poor? Probably. "I'm asking Long Haul to repeat for the court what that event was and nothing more than that." Like pointing out the accused or giving a name. Though he questions what sort of testimony Perceptor can give; was Perceptor present there? He makes a mental note to check up on that later, if he hasn't ruined everything.

Skipping Elita-1 due to time-out, and to get things moving again.
"Alright. Rephrase the question, please, counsel."
Is Optimus waffling a little? Probably! He's new at this.

Ultra Magnus nods and turns back to Long Haul.
"If you please, Long Haul," he says at a conversational level, "name for the court what events changed Hook."
