This board has always had a reasonably high standard when it comes to the spelling, punctuation, and grammar of the roleplaying posts. We do not try to nitpick every single post, we understand that mistakes will be made, and we also try to work with those dealing with situations that make it harder for them to adhere to general grammar and spelling rules (for example, we have several players who are not native English speakers). Nobody's perfect, and we don't expect that. On the other hand, multiple glaring, basic errors in a single post is a distraction to roleplay in a text environment. When a player consistently misspells the name of their own character, doesn't bother to capitalize the beginnings of sentence, leaves out periods and quotation marks, or constantly uses confusing sentence structure, it makes it more difficult to focus on the actual content of the post. On this board, we are of the mindset that one quality of a good roleplayer is that the person is easy for others to roleplay with, and the more time other players have to spend figuring out what is said, the harder they are to interact with.
Some people might feel that the content of their posts are so incredibly awesome that their spelling and grammar don't matter. I assure you, no one here is that good, and ee cummings would probably have his application denied, too.
We, as admin, reserve the right to send approved players warning notes if their posts' readability begins to drift due to these issues, and we also reserve the right to deny an application over them. Once again, we're not going to come down on people over an error here or there, but if an applicant consistently misspells and/or failures to capitalize their character's own name or the name of the canon factions, they are probably a poor fit for this board. This is, to our mind, an even bigger issue with applications, because we feel a player should at least give their application a once over before sending it in.
For the most part, we haven't had a huge problem with this here, but it seems to have become more of an issue lately, so we have decided it was time to make a formal announcement.
And yes, I am well aware of the fact that, since this is a post discussing spelling and grammar mistakes, there are probably a few in the post. However, there aren't many, it's certainly readable, and pointing them out to be 'ironic' will not win a person many points.
