Nightbeat shrugs. "Whether you trust the other officers on the scene depends on how well you know them and what the department is like. But you should at least ask them. Get all the information you can from every source you can. Even if some of it is false, it's somewhere to start from."

Pee-Dee nods. "I like to let people talk who like to talk. It lets me find out how full of slag they are.1" She tilts her head slightly. "So I do all that. Was it a robbery?"

"The two officers on the scene say everything was already over when they arrived. The door had been forced, but the perp was already gone. The tenant called the cops, claims when he arrived home all his credits and valuables were missing. The next door neighbor heard a loud noise and saw a purple 'bot leaving in a hurry, but didn't want to get involved. He only came forward when the police had already showed up.
Preliminary examination reveals scratches of purple paint on the door and the apartment's secure storage compartment, which has also been forced open."

"What colors are the tenant and the neighbor?"

Nightbeat nods. That's the question he would have asked. "The tenant is blue with red trim. The neighbor is yellow."

Pee-Dee is looking for ways Nightbeat might be trying to trick her. This is probably not the ideal approach to learning from him, but it's working so far.
"I need to find out what was stolen," she decides.

"According to the tenant and the officers on the scene, the 'bot kept all his credits in a wall safe. Said safe is ajar and empty. The tenant claims there was a also a decorative statuette on a side table, and that's missing now, too."

Pee-Dee headtilts. "What sort of statuette? What does it look like, what's it made of?"

Nightbeat's mouth quirks in a half-smile. "The tenant says it was gold-plated electrum, about [units appropriate for a something about the size of a Transformer breadbox] high, and that he wants to be compensated for it if you can't get it back. Because it was insured."

"He can take it up with his insurance company," she says flippantly. Then she pauses and just stares at Nightbeat as his description of the statuette registers. "Gold-plated electrum? Why would you gild electrum?"

If Nightbeat were human, he would take this moment to calmly light a cigarette before respond to Pee-Dee, drawing out the process by fishing for a lighter in the pockets of his trenchcoat.
"Are you asking me or the tenant?"

"The tenant looks shifty, and asks what's wrong with gilding electrum?"

"Nothing wrong with it. Just strange. Electrum is a gold-silver alloy, so gilding it is just..." she waves a hand, possibly to express how bugnuts-weird it is. Possibly to flag down a taxi. Hard to say.

"The tenant says it may be weird, but it was really valuable- valuable to him, he means, it had personal value, and he wants to make sure he gets compensated, and when can he expect to get his stuff back anyway?"
