OOC: Month 7 Week 1 Day 3. Semi-private.
Haywire – Wally hears the downstairs door shut and fusses one last time with the seating before looking up at the door as it opens to admit a bike wheel. He stifles the urge to sigh anxiously.
"Hey, Jay," he says, plastering on a grin once his roommate peeks inside. Jay returns it, sunny as ever, while holding the door open with a foot so he can walk his bike into the apartment.
"What's up?" asks the courier. "You're usually all over the place getting dressed. Gotta night off?" Wally shrugs and flops into an armchair before his knees can give out; he waits until Jay's done situating his bike on the mostly decorative metal arrangement that passes for their balcony to answer.
"Yeah. Invited a friend over."
"Oh yeah? She cute?" Jay teases, eyes twinkling, as he pulls off his helmet and the cap under it, sending his hair all over the place. Wally throws an empty soda can at him, laughing all the same. Jay doesn't so much dodge or sidestep it as he simply and suddenly stands a foot to the right of where he was a split second ago, and he smirks at Wally as the can smacks into the wall. "Too slow," he jeers.
"It's a guys' night, jackass," Wally tells him. Jay's eyes get big and round. "I ordered a couple of extra larges, some pasta, and a burger for you. You still like that jambalaya fettuccine they have, right?"
"Duh," Jay says with a wild grin, adding as he rushes to the shelf, "I get to pick the movie!"
"Sure thing, Bl–" Wally bites his tongue. "Buddy," comes the weak finish. Jay makes a triumphant noise and starts skimming their DVD collection, making playful jabs all the while about Wally being so old-fashioned and why they'd have a better selection if he'd just switch to Blu-Ray even though they'd have to re-purchase everything, and it turns into one of those rambles that Wally tunes out from his conscious hearing, leaving it to give his echoing empty mind some background noise. He sort of wants the food to get here first so he can stuff his face and try to ignore his nerves, but at the same time, he thinks if he eats anything, he'll puke.
Then the doorbell rings and before he can even sit up, Jay's across the room and headed downstairs with a cheer for pizza.
"Hey, dipstick, you don't even have the money!" Wally calls after him, shaking his head.

Rodney arrives at about the same time as the pizza man. He has no way of knowing who Jay is or that the pizza is headed for the same place he is, at least until he looks up the stairs. That one the other man, the one shouting at the one downstairs, is poking out of is his destination, isn't it.
"Wally?" he asks experimentally. Then he turns towards the other man. "Than this must be Jay." He reaches into his pocket and waves at the others. "I've got this." With that, he heads over to pay for the pizza.

"What?" Wally calls down the stairs, hanging from the doorway. He sees Rodney paying for the pizza and groans. "No, I can– blast it," and he buries his face in his forearm, braced on the doorjamb.
Jay, when he hauls open the door, gives the guy who isn't bringing pizza a confused look. His eyes turn hazy for just a moment and he racks his brain, trying to remember if he knows the redhead paying for his and Wally's food. Clearly his roomie knows him; Jay assumes this is the friend Wally invited over for the evening. He had no idea Wally had any friends this old! The delivery guy, meanwhile, is just glad to be paid and relieved of their ridiculously large order. He can't imagine three guys needing this much food.
"Thanks," he mumbles as he counts out Rodney's change and Jay, still staring, hefts up two of the extra large pizzas, his burger, and the box that has his pasta. That leaves the third pizza, an order of wings, the breadsticks, and drinks for Rodney.
"Hey, I've got the tip," says Wally as he takes the stairs two at a time in his sock feet.

Rodney accepts the remainder of the food and shrugs as Wally offers to handle the tip. "Sure." He follows Jay back into the apartment and looks around for a place to set the food - counter top or table, either will work!

Jay doesn't direct Rodney, but wastes no time taking over the coffee table with his pile of food. He just assumes Rodney will follow his example. Jay also wastes no time starting on his burger, because his stomach feels like it's about to turn in on itself and not all of his giddiness is excitement over the splurge.
"You a friend of Wally's?" he asks, already halfway through the three-quarter-pound burger. He wipes mustard from the corner of his mouth with one thumb, then sucks it clean. Wally pads back in with a baggie of condiments in hand – dipping sauce for the wings and breadsticks, parmigiana for the pasta – and shuts the door, then ambles to the cabinets for glasses without saying a word to either of them.

"That's right," Rodney agrees, setting the pizzas down on the coffee table and opening the top box. He pulls a slice out. Looks like pepperoni?
He considers for a moment how to approach this, then decides to just blurt it out.
"You know you're a robot, right?"

In the kitchen, glass clatters as Wally nearly drops everything in his hands to turn and stare at Rodney like the Prime has gone utterly mad. He didn't think it was going to be this abrupt! Jay just laughs and works on finishing his burger so he can get to the pasta.
"You've got some weird friends, man," he jeers at Wally once he's cleared his mouth. The blond grimaces. He's your friend, too, echoes like a whisper in Jay's head and he blinks. Then he tells himself he was just imagining what Wally would've said, like he swears he's imagined a few times before now. But why would Wally have said that? "Hey," he goes on, distracted from that train of thought, "you got Mountain Dew, right?"
"Like you need caffeine," Wally mutters to himself. Aloud, he adds, "Nope, just root beer or 7-Up. Or a beer from the fridge." Jay makes an unhappy face and turns back to his food. He side-eyes Rodney.
"You know you sound crazy, right?"

Rodney inclines his head in a nod, grinning as he takes a bite of his pizza. As soon as he's chewed the bite down enough to talk around it, he says, "Yeah, I know. S'strange world sometimes."
So, the direct approach failed, so Rodney will have to... pry? Prod?
Something like that.
"So what movie we watching?" Rodney will have to prod during the movies.

"The Fast and the Furious," Jay answers, grinning. Then he pauses, makes a surprised face, and sets down his food so he can all but tackle the entertainment centre. "It'd help if I actually put the DVD in!" Wally shakes his head at his roomie as he returns, bottles of soda in his arms and glasses in hand. He sets down everything on the table and gestures for Rodney to help himself.
"Beer's still in the fridge if you want any," he says, sitting down about the same time Jay does. Louder, Wally adds, "He likes films about cars."
"Fast cars," Jay corrects him and smirks at Rodney. "He always forgets that part." Wally just snorts and Jay's grin threatens to split his face, but for a fraction of a fraction of a second, Jay wonders just why Rodney made that robot comment. It reminds him of those very rare, very strange dreams he gets sometimes, the dreams where he's outracing sound itself on legs of metal and watching photons struggle to keep up with him. Then he reminds himself those are just weird dreams from his over-tired brain and goes back to his food.

"Hey, who doesn't?" asks Rodney, grabbing up a soda. Of course, the answer is, "Lots of people." Lots of people don't like movies about fast cars. But those people don't count.
He nods when Wally tells him about the beer, but doesn't move to get one. He's not really much of a beer person (unless it involves torquing Kate off).
"So how long you two been rooming together, anyway?" he asks innocently. If he can find any incongruities in their history, maybe that'll help, at least to get Blurr wondering.

"Uh." Jay's eyes drift toward the ceiling as he thinks. "It's been… a couple years now? My buddy's sister hooked us up when I was looking for a place in town." He pauses with a forkful of pasta halfway to his mouth and eyes Rodney; for a moment, quicker than a blink, he looks deadly serious. Then the grin is back. "You don't have a younger brother, do you?" he asks, because Rodney looks quite a lot like his best friend in high school. Just… older.
Wally shrugs; he has bits and pieces of recall from a human life that isn't his, but he doesn't remember with the clarity that Jay has.
"Something like that," he says. "I've lost track."

Rodney takes another bite of his pizza and shakes his head. "Naw." He pauses, then shrugs. "At least not as far as I know, anyway," he laughs. "Why do you ask?"

Jay is a little troubled by Rodney's answer. Not much, but a little. Enough to put a bit of a stitch between his eyebrows in spite of his half-smile.
"It's weird. You just look like somebody I know, is all," he says. "My best friend in high school. He's the one who got me hooked on muscle cars… him and that crazy antique Firebird of his." He snorts back a laugh, thinking of the fights that used to break out over that car. "For a star QB, he sure took a lot of crap for painting it magenta," and he stops there to wolf down the rest of his pasta.
Wally just shrugs if Rodney happens to look his way. He has no recollection of any of this; but then his human memories tell him that Wally and Jay didn't know each other until they started sharing the flat.

Rodney does, indeed, glance Wally's way, but gives no reaction when Wally shrugs. Another bite, and then he speaks, mouth full, "Yeah? What was his name?" Because obviously, that might reveal whether or not he's related to Rodney in some way, right?
Right?

"Heath Rhodes," Jay says without hesitation. "But we all just called him Rhodey. Why?" He doesn't know Rodney's last name!
Or was it Roddy?
"You told me it was Roddy," Wally pipes up, almost as if he can hear what Jay's thinking. Jay frowns at him.
"I did?" Jay shrugs as if to dismiss the issue, but his frown doesn't quite go away. He knows it was Rhodey. He's sure of it. But it might have been Roddy, because of that old hot rod. Jay turns back to his food and the movie rather than dwell on the sudden vagueness of his memories.
