The flesh is. Petunia dances, red eyes studying Arthur as he speaks. When he's finished, she says simply, "No. Thank you."

She denies him? Him? For the briefest of moments, he imagines himself squeezing her wrists until they shatter. But outwardly, he still appears calm and understanding, his smile never fading. "I was not expecting you to say yes." He chuckles, and there's a glint of misschief in his eyes as his voice drops a bit, just audible above the music. "Even if you were not already with someone, I would not have expected so. Not on the first date."

Arthur would be insulted by how much 'no' there is in that 'thank you'. She doesn't want an entanglement like that; she just wants someone who would really appreciate her dressing up prettily and take her dancing and to shows.
Petunia smiles and relaxes in his arms as he assures her it's all right. He's lying, she thinks, but as long as he'd stick to the lie, it was all right.
"Is this a date?" she asks curiously.

At the bar off to the side of the dance floor is a certain well-known celebrity. Addison Payne is dressed smartly in a blue and white pin-stripe button-down shirt under a matching blue sport coat that brings out the blue in his blue-grey eyes. His jeans are dark-washed and designer, his jewelry understated, and his hair impeccable.
Addison is at the club alone, though it is not his intention to leave alone. He has been feeling melancholy of late, and the urge to just be a normal human is strong within him. At least, to be as normal as he can given his life and fame.
He sips his martini as he surveys the dancers, then leans in to whisper something into the ear of the young woman currently entrenched at his side. She blushes and giggles, and his hand slips from her shoulder down to her hip.

If he knew, he'd have to do horrible, horrible things to her. Though he is planning to do that regardless, so it likely does not matter.
Her question surprises him. A sharp eyebrow quirks, but then he smiles and lets out quite a pleasant chuckle while he shakes his head. "Not a romantic one, but that is quite obvious. No, this is a date between a lovely woman of mystery and intrigue, and a man, hoping to be her friend."

"You're already my friend." Petunia tilts her head to smile up at Arthur. As he whirls around, she catches sight of someone over his shoulder-
Oh. Oh, look at that profile, look at the costuming, look at that body language! Her lips part slightly, and she unconsciously shifts closer to Arthur, pushing him to turn her back to where she can see that man again.
Ohhhh.
She sighs, enchanted, as she looks over Arthur's shoulder. Then her eyes narrow; that girl is ruining things. She doesn't deserve to be on the same set as Addison Payne.
Petunia tries to disentangle herself from Arthur, eyes still locked on the actor at the bar.

That makes him smile. More then he already was. It's warm and bright, seemingly genuinely happy to hear that. "Well then, mission accomplished. Now I can worry only about enjoying ourselves." He chuckles softly, and mimics her movements almost perfectly as they continue to dance.
He has no idea that she's been enchanted by someone else.
He thinks that wistful sigh is one of happiness. But then, she starts to let him go, leaving the poor young man confused. He slows down his dancing to a slow swaying of his hips as he lets her go, an eyebrow arched, and a curious smile on his lips. "Enough dancing for now?"

"Yes." Petunia slips her fingers out of Arthur's grip. There's a brief moment to smooth her hair before she saunters towards Addison. Her hips sway, regular as a metronome.
"Who would have thought to find a rarity like you on this kind of farm?"

Now, it does hit him just what is going on. He is rejected in favor of someone else! He turns to watch her walk away, and while the sight is pleasant, he does not like the thought behind it. Arthur bristles as he's out of sight, though it's tempered some when he sees Maddison. Well, he certainly can't blame her, he's a scrumptious delight of a man.
One who is stealing her, though, he reminds himself. Eyes narrow a little as he backs off, blending into the dancing crowd, though where he can still keep an eye on the two. And maybe he will find someone else to dance with.

It is impossible for Addison to not notice the redheaded woman sauntering so deliberately toward him, not when she is making a point to be noticed. He quirks a smile as he watches her, his expression stating clearly that Petunia's efforts are very much appreciated.
The woman at Addison's side also watches Petunia, but with much less pleasure. But Addison hasn't removed his arm from around her waist yet, nor put distance between them, so perhaps she might win out. Maybe.
Addison chuckles at Petunia's greeting, sets his martini on the bar, and holds out his now-free hand to her. "Oh, I'm a rare enough find indeed, dear lady, but you've stumbled upon me in my natural habitat. Where there is beauty for the eyes and and a feast for the senses so shall I be," he says, paraphrasing one of his lines from the second movie*. He tries to take Petunia's hand, raise it to his lips and kiss the back of it.
MLP2 was unfortunately produced during a writer's strike. It was pretty, explosive, had little plot, and is getting retconned heavily by MLP3. In fact, some fans have dubbed MLP3, My Little Pony Three: The Apology based on the leaked footage alone.

Petunia allows her hand to be kissed, then tries to shift her grip slightly so she can draw his hand up to be kissed. Red eyes sparkle with mischief. "True beauty dwells not only in the eyes."
She had intended to use only Addison's lines, but that particular one of Rarity's fits the conversation.

Turnabout is, of course, fair play, which means Addison makes no protest as Petunia kisses his hand in turn. He quirks a brow as she quotes another line, albeit not his. There is something... familiar about the delivery.
"Perhaps," he answers, giving her the appropriate line in response, "The eyes reflect the beauty of one's soul- or the darkness. The question, friend-" he tries to tug Petunia in close, as he does so, "is what do you see in mine?"
The young woman who was by Addison's side sighs in frustration. She turns back to the bar and orders a drink.

Petunia smiles as she's drawn in close, legs resting against Addison's knees, body leaning slightly forward. "I see- a hunter." That is not how the line goes. "And I see someone who knows the measure of beauty." And that is Danny's line.

"A hunter?" Addison repeats, slight surprise in voice.
"Mmm, and what do I hunt, dear lady? Beauty?" he asks softly, reaching up to try and stroke his fingers along her hairline, "I've no need to hunt for that."
"Beauty comes to me."

"You can't tell me this is luck," Petunia says, switching to a line from the second movie. "This is preparation, this is planning."
Her eyes drift closed at the touch, and she mms in pleasure.
