Month 12, Week 1, Day 2, OpenBreakaway has been trapped in a squishy flightless body for way to long. Naturally, he takes the first possible opportunity to ditch his duties and go flat-hatting. A camouflage-painted F-35 streaks low over the barren landscape of the Gobi desert, hugging the dunes in ways that would make a helicopter pilot flinch. It pulls up, up, startling a herd of camels as it ascends. Breakaway flies through a puffy cumulus cloud, savoring the water droplets on his wings as he breaks out of the vapor and into the sunlight, climbing higher and higher, kicking on his afterburner and laughing as he spins, shaking the water from his wings. He finally stalls out, as he knew he must, technology can only fight physics so much. He cuts his engines, transforms, and spreads his arms, falling backwards with the sun on his face. Long before he's in danger of hitting the ground, he's in jet mode again, thoroughly enjoying himself. He's enjoying himself so much that he makes a transmission on the general Cybertronian band. He'll probably get in trouble for it later, but eh.

Skywarp doesn’t answer the radio call directly. Mostly, he doesn’t feel like it, and the idiot making the challenge never asked for a vocal response. He just flies out to the coordinates, Wind Sheer along for the ride on his upper fuselage, wondering all the while what in the world this Autobot flier even meant by things like charlie foxtrot. It sounds like a code, he supposes. He leaves himself a reminder to look it up later. Right now, he's itching to get started cleaning his slate with this new unit. The events of the asteroid park still leave a lingering, greasy feeling in his circuits. Thrashing an Autobot out of the sky might be just the thing to help wash it away.
Right now, he’s a little close to the broadcast coordinates to distract himself with Internet searches. Of course, Wind Sheer would look it up for him if he’d say anything, but Wind Sheer can’t read minds, and Skywarp only relies on a Mini-Con to shoot what it’s told to shoot when it’s told to shoot.
He’s still some miles out when he begins scanning for other aircraft. He trusts Autobot bluster about as far as he can throw Tidal Wave.
//You talk a decent game. Don't disappoint me,// he transmits on general as he rolls into a wide bank. He isn't even trying to avoid being seen.

There are no other aircraft on Skywarp's scanners, just the one arrogant F-35, accelerating toward him and climbing, trying to gain altitude and come at him out of the sun.
//I never do,// Breakaway boasts, putting on a burst of speed. The angle's all wrong for him to get on the 'Con's six, so he'll work with what he's got and hope for an opening.

Being a human made even the normally unflappable Skystrike antsy about stretching her wings. She’d been without wings a few times before, either as punishment or after particularly bad run-ins with Autobots. Being completely grounded with no tangible hope of returning to a machine form however? She hadn’t taken a lot for granted before, but having her very body and mind altered by some powerful alien entity rattled her more than she liked.
Really, the seeker is mostly here to supervise and maybe take potshots. Skystrike has little to no interest in chasing the Autobot down and even less of a desire to respond to his goading, but she suspects some of her subordinates would make up for that enthusiastically. If Breakaway was anything like Powerglide (being ballsy enough to challenge the entire Decepticon aerial unit? Yeah, that’s pretty Powerglide-y), she suspects he’s going to be more of a pain in the afterburners than he was worth anyways. Agile Autobot bastard.
As is, the blue flier lazily trails after Breakaway a good few miles away. Close enough to be seen on radar but she’s generally just enjoying flying again rather than actively chasing him at the moment.

There's a pause, then a low, velvety sort of chuckle across the airwaves as Breakaway reads on scan. Skywarp veers up and left into a low-angle climb, circling gradually upwards. It leaves him dangerously open to attacks from various angles as the Earth drops away further and further, but that's something of the point.
//I'll hold you to that,// he replies, arming weapons before he angles sharply upward and accelerates. He knows he shouldn't drag it out if he can help it, but he won't charge in blindly against an unknown opponent. He has to poke a little, get a feel for the enemy.
Then he can get on with the slaughter.

Breakaway makes a mental note as Skystrike appears on his radar. She cuts a pretty unique profile (sexy forward-swept wings and all) so it's almost certainly her, but she doesn't appear to be engaging.
Which is good, because it leaves him free to play with the other guy.
They're both climbing, both trying to get above the other. Altitude is dominance. The F-35 grins inwardly as he levels off and kicks in his afterburner, heading straight for Skywarp. Unless one of them changes course, he's going to pass close enough to the other jetformer for Skywarp to read all the places it says "No Step" on him. And he's going to release his thermal wave when he does, overheating the Decepticon's weapons.
That's the plan, anyway.

Watching the other two fighters climb up, Skystrike pushes power to her lifters and floats up after them. She doesn’t engage just yet, casting a sweep around the area instead. Less fliers showed up than she’d thought would appear.
//Want a hand?// she radios Skywarp afterwards.

//Not yet,// Skywarp answers Skystrike. He won't say no when numbers are an advantage, but he isn't to the point that he thinks he needs it yet. //Stay ready, though,// he adds. No telling when the dogfight could go south and he'll be grateful for another set of guns in the air on his side.
As he launches his missiles and rolls right and away from the Autobot jet, averting this game of chicken, he hopes this all goes well enough that he doesn't have to ask Skystrike into the fray. He has a lot to make up for and it'll look better on him if he can handle one stupid Autobot without wasting manpower.

Clearly Skywarp is chicken. Breakaway opens up with his machine gun as the other jetformer launches his missiles, hoping to pop one or both before they can reach him. He rolls to the side as he does so, trying to stay close to Skywarp.

//Very well.// Skystrike will settle down and watch the distant blooms of light for now then, idly floating higher. She is space capable and the thin atmosphere isn’t going to stop her. Nicer view up here anyways, not to mention a tactical advantage if she is needed.
OOC: Skippable for now!

The Autobot likes to play hard and fast. He's a bit reckless with the machine gun fire, but it works well enough to take out three of the twenty mini-missiles headed his way. He's also stubbornly not turning those guns on Skywarp – something Skywarp himself finds curious. Does he have a different weapon he relies on? Is he just playing?
//Lieutenant commander,// he radios Skystrike – mentally flogging himself for neglecting her rank earlier – as he pulls up, intending to loop behind Breakaway, //what do you know about this Autobot?//

Breakaway isn't shooting at Skywarp because the missiles are occupying his attention. He comes from a universe where a single missile hit is more than likely a kill. Also, yes, he is just playing, because he's an arrogant aft like that.
His guns aren't working like he wants, so Breakaway turns into a steep dive, releasing chaff and flares behind him. If the missiles are radar-guided or heat-seeking, that should help. If not, he might be screwed.
Still, two Decepticons flying around, seventeen missiles heading for his engines, flying straight down in what is rapdily becoming a controlled stall . . . this is what Breakaway lives for.

Skywarp suddenly remembering her title makes Skystrike arch a brow inwardly, but she doesn’t comment on it.
//He’s a good shot,// according to what she’d heard from Misfire anyways which is, well. Something. However, where Misfire’s aim was not reliable, his reports generally tended to be.
//Duskwing got the upperhand on him once playing possum though, so I imagine he’s not the brightest mech around.// Skystrike pauses, calling up a few more reports. //He also tackled Wreckage off the highway back when we were visiting Pz-Zazz. Other than that, reports on him are rather sparse. I wouldn’t risk underestimating him.// Cocky, good shot and sort of dumb and/or reckless was the current profile so far. Not exactly too flattering for the Autobot’s ‘Top Gun’ at the moment.
OOC: Still skippable!

Skywarp has no excuses for forgetting Skystrike's rank. It's just one of those mistakes he'll be reminding himself of for weeks to come. He spent ages memorising the command chain to avoid exactly this. The best he can do is apologise later and hand himself over for whatever punishment the transgression merits.
//Acknowledged. Thank you.// So the Autobot is essentially no better than a lucky idiot. A lucky idiot can still be dangerous.
Thoughts he keeps in mind as the flares and chaff disrupt his missiles' path with a rash of explosions, thick cloud of smoke bursting into the previously clear air. The Autobot's diving away, is he? Skywarp changes the angle of his loop to plummet after Breakaway.
//What's your name, Autobot?// he wonders, switching back to general broadcast. He could – maybe – cut off his opponent with one quick 'port, but… no, best to save that for the moment. Better to be certain than to chance it and end up low on fuel before he can clinch the win.

Cocky, good shot, and sort of dumb and/or reckless isn't a flattering profile for the Autobots' 'Top Gun'? Has Skystrike never seen Top Gun? Because Breakaway has seen it. He has seen it like a buhmillion times.
//You first, Chuckles,// Breakaway responds to Skywarp's transmission. At the same time he transforms, rolling over onto his back. He's still falling straight down, but he knows his altitude and he has time before he hits the sand. More than enough time to deploy his beam fusion sniper rifle, which he does, and point it at the cloud of smoke and debris left by his countermeasures. As soon as his opponent appears through it, he'll get a face full of nuclear reaction.
"C'mon, you scrap pile, show me some nosecone. . ."
