Oh Stella, you, really, really shouldn't have said that.
Carolyn's eyes grow icy cold. "I've already considered an option that relates to the possibility that you did not just mention out loud. Now don't ever mention something like that to me again." Please Stella, don't give them a reason to make Carolyn kill you. Running off some steam and annoyance is one thing. Accusing Control of working against the greater good by leaving Slaughter alive is another.
The problem is that Carolyn already believes that's why he's still out there. More accurately, she feels like he's the measuring stick Control has used over the years to test out better blends. Even thinking about that too much could get her killed, and her family with her.
"Here," she shoves the rest of her meal, dessert and all, toward Stella, "I'm not hungry any longer."

Stella's expression quirks into an 'oh really?' pose, and she says casually, "I don't know what I was thinking, sir. Stupid floral junk must have scrambled my gears."
She does not realise what she just said there.
Anyway, Stella is willing to put up with some amount of 'shut up and don't question what is going on'. She always has been. Stella might engage in some angst about this tonight, alone, but now is not the time. She even likes Carolyn well enough, which is part of why Stella gives in now. Carolyn's pretty, not that Stella would ever say to her commanding officer, and Stella sure does admire Carolyn's shooting skills.

Carolyn is in the process of rising from her seat when Stella makes the "scrambled gears" comment. She pauses in the movement and looks at Stella, obviously puzzled.
"That's an odd turn of phrase. Why is it familiar?" she murmurs, mostly to herself.
She shakes her head, "Never mind. We need to get back to recon anyway. You think you can manage to stay off the radar for the duration?"

"'Cos I've probably said it before," Stella says, without thinking, and she submits to the temptation of Carolyn's chocolate mousse. Thinking makes her add, "Y'know, I like helicopters and cars, right? Shifting gears and all?"
She ducks her head down to consider the remains of trout and says in a small voice, "...I'll just stay in the hangar. Sir."
Because it's Carolyn asking.

Carolyn snorts in exasperation. "You're not useful in the hanger. Just think before you act, and stay off the local beat's toes. That's all I ask, Stella."
"I wouldn't have brought you along on this mission if you I just wanted you out of the way," she adds after several moments. Carolyn smiles thinly, "Now quit stuffing your face and let's go sniff out a super-villain."
Looks like we're heading toward a fade?

Carolyn is asking an awful lot from Stella!
When Carolyn says, 'let's go sniff out a super-villain', Stella wolfs everything down in a very not-genteel, Jughead-esque maneuver, stands up, ready to go, and says eagerly, "Aw, I knew there was a reason I liked you!"
Fade!
