// Understood. I had offered the refresh the listing of appropriate transmission frequencies, as the memory module with that data had been damaged to non-functionality. Recommendation? // he asks.

//Hnh... well, we could use it as a test... we give him the frequency, plant some false information that the 'Cons would like, and if they fall for it, we know we've got 'em...//
//Problem with that is what those who don't know about the situation might say while he's listening.//

Emirate Xaaron likes how Kup is thinking. He likes it a lot. However, he is forced to admit, //Another problem. We don't have the resources for a good trap yet.//

//Hnh. Point,// Kup allows. He pauses. //We set a bad trap?//
Oddly, Kup appears to consider this a perfectly viable solution, but that's because he's seen a rather surprising number of ill-thought out schemes work, while plenty of perfectly considered plans go down the smelter before they've had a chance to really start rolling.

//Nightbeat, don't you have to deal with Screwdriver first?//
Not that he doubts Nightbeat at all. It's just that they have multiple problems here.

//Nightbeat: keep up the good work. Perceptor: Hardwire isn't quite our style, is he? Tell him that the technology is more different than you thought, and it's going to take you longer to fix his radio than you thought. A few days, maybe. That'll give us time to get a trap together and resolve our other issues.//

// ... Very well. //
Yes, that is a note of a sigh in his voice; he's not a medic by trade, but a radio is a simple fix, and it pricks his professional pride to feign difficulty with such a small repair. Especially after reassembling Jazz from halves and pieces.
Then again, if this Hardwire does prove to be an infiltrator, it would help the Autobots more than harm them for the Decepticons to be under the impression that their primary "medic" isn't as skilled as he is. If Hardwire is not an infiltrator, then either all will be explained in time, or Perceptor will merely have to prove his worth again to the schematic-tattooed mech.
Fair enough.

//Thanks, Perceptor.//
//In the interests of keeping the circulation a bit narrower, I'm going to move discussion of the Skyfire situation over here.//
//I've been forward with him - to an extent - figuring that being caught in a lie will hurt our side worse than anything else. Told him about the Decepticons' goals, told him we were out to stop 'em, told him the situation on this planet. Won't tell him numbers or locations or details until we know where he's going to stand, and I told him that much, too. Also warned him not to put on any symbols- any of 'em- until he's damned sure for himself what they stand for, and that it's what he stands for. That was his big mistake in our reality, and if he even listens that much, we're a step ahead.//
//The problem is, he mentioned hearing a lot of contradicting reports, and I kinda suspect he's not just talking about the general frequency. Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions here, but if that's the case, it's probably Starscream he's been talking to. Which makes it our Starscream, which makes another problem, though not an immediate one.//
//Folks, our Starscream may well be more dangerous dead than alive, which means trying to find a permanent way of dealing with him tricky.//

//Ah, yeah, you were from before that mess. Well, the problem is-//
And then Kup cuts off suddenly. Moments later, he picks up again. This time, his voice is considerably shaken.
//Problem. Skyfire cut off suddenly. Waiting to hear back from him. What may be worse is the news he dropped before he cut off, though. He reported an asteroid belt in orbit a bit further out from this star.//
//Folks, the Gillanan system doesn't have an asteroid belt.//

Emirate Xaaron is not being sarcastic, but he would sound more sensible if he was. He asks, //What, does your Starscream do the super-powered zombie thing, too?//
//With regards to Skyfire, we may want to step up plans for a trap. If we can catch the Decepticons red-handed, it will go a long way to proving our cause. We'll need to get a scout out and someone who can rig traps. We'll find a power station, one of the ones that has been reactivated and quietly rig it. Then, we'll make a big show of rolling out there and let it slip to Hardwire. We'll make it sound like our energon problem is worse than it really is. The Decepticons will eat it up and come calling, and it'll blow up in their faces.//
Emirate Xaaron pauses in his intricate plotting, which to Perceptor and Kup may seem uncomfortably like a harebrained Decepticon scheme but should seem pretty much normal to Nightbeat.
He recovers. //Get Synapse up and out there, if he's able. Skyfire may be injured, and we'll need a second set of readings to confirm that anomalous asteroid belt. This may not be your universe then, Kup. Or perhaps it is some time in the future.//

//Skyfire just called back in, Xaaron. He's undamaged... says a power array took a pot shot at him. Confirmed that he's communicating with Starscream, though.//
//And no, no super-powered zombie thing.// Kup then mutters something that seems to start with 'that would be,' but he's indistinct. //He haunts. Invisibility, incorporeal, possession, that sort of thing. Y'know, a ghost. I agree about getting Synapse up there, though. I'm wary of asking Skyfire to look closer if he's still reporting to Starscream as well.//

Kup then gives another update!
//Just mentioned going into the ionospheric blackout.// Kup sighs. //So he's been circling the planet, and the 'Cons'll have a full map of the place. He's passed on the system ephemeris, though, so looks like he hasn't chosen a side yet. I'll give that over to Synapse. Perceptor, I'm assuming you want a copy, too?//
