Duskwing, who had been starting to slouch a bit, straightened up at the sight of Needlenose. Laser burns scored his fuselage and assorted shell holes punctured his wings, and his nose looked a bit more bent and flattened than it used to, but he brightened up at the sight of the friendly jet-former. Maybe Needlenose had finally remembered that Duskwing got captured by the Autocreeps just to make sure Needlenose got away safely. Nobody seemed to remember that.
Duskwing hadn't exactly forgotten that Needlenose was Spinister's partner, but he hadn't thought the implications through.
"Hey, Needlenose! Some good fighting today--I think Long Haul bent my nose, though." Duskwing frowned momentarily, then grinned at Needlenose. "Whaddaya want?"

Nope, nope. No such luck, Duskwing.
Needlenose narrows his optics at Long Range for a moment and mentally adds him to The List. He even radios Spinister to alert him to the addition. However, Sky-byte, who's from a reality where the Decepticons are subordinate to Predacons, has figured out rather quickly what Mayhems were. Why, he's a clever shark indeed!
"I don't bring swords to a gunfight, Long Range," Needlenose answers cheerfully. "That's Bludgeon's job. And Sunbeam and Zigzag would probably object if I started notching them."
To Sky-byte, he explains, "Oh, I'm here to chat with Duskwing here." He turns towards Duskwing and, by extension, Long Range. He doesn't move to get Long Range out of his way. Zigzag may be notoriously inaccurate, but this is very close range, and if Long Range wants to take a Null Ray on steroids for Duskwing, who may not even need it, anyway, that's his business. "I, uhm, need you to accompany me, Duskwing, if you don't mind."

Long Range is under no illusions about what a Mayhems job is. But this doesn't mean he fears them, irrelevant of what they or others may think.
And then Sky-Byte starts elbowing him. Fearful shark is fearful. But he needn't worry too much, Long Range isn't going to take this any further. Now if Needlenose does end up shooting Duskwing....
"Then get your weapons to notch something. It'd be more fitting." He says as he takes a few steps to the side, getting out of Needlenose's way.

Of course he's a clever shark. Sky-Byte can be a very fast learner if need be, especially if lessons come with that lovely display of discipline at the Decepticon base a while back. There's no way that Sky-Byte wants to be publicly and painfully humiliated.
He listens to Needlenose with a neutral expression, well, as neutral as his face can get.
"Huh? Yeah, sure... uh, wait." Duskwing turned his head toward Sky-byte. His superior officer had given him orders, after all.
"Hey boss, you gonna di-dis-dis... uh, let me go wit' The Nose here, or do I gotta do that straggler hunt thing first?"1
So...let Needlenose take his subordinate away and risk loosing some standing with Duskwing? Or try to halt the little situation and risk his own fins? Sorry Duskwing. But Sky-Byte will try to make sure the flier comes back in one piece and preferably alive.
"Ahem, you accompany Needlenose, Duskwing," Sky-Byte grunts, propping on hand on his hip. Another sound exits the Predacon's vocalizer, a mimic of a cautious if nervous throat clearing. "I would prefer Duskwing be returned to me in working order, if that is possible. There's still work to be done and I am already down one flier with Thundercracker out of commission." Please?

Duskwing listened for several minutes to Sky-byte--even though Sky-byte only talked for about 30 seconds, then nodded briefly. His optics narrowed slightly as he mulled over the comment about returning him in working order. What did Sky-byte know that he didn't?
He glanced at Needlenose; the rad teal jet was much too cheerful for it to be anything serious.
"Guess I'm free to go wit' you," Duskwing finally said. He slouched forward, then rapidly dropped to one knee with one hand on the ground, and pushed off, tucking his head down and rolling into a transform as he hovered, seeming to somersault into F-15 form.
"Damn, I like these new lifters! Wish I'd had 'em years ago," the dark blue F-15 with purple trim said, chortling. "Which way, Needlenose?"

"Oh, I wouldn't worry about that, Sky-byte!" Because either Starscream does intend to keep him in operational condition, in which case Sky-byte needn't worry, or Starscream doesn't intend to keep Duskwing in operational condition, in which case it's not Sky-byte's job to worry.
Then, he jumps into the air, agreeing, "Oh, yeah. These antigravs are nice! Anyway, follow me!" And with that, he leads Duskwing right out of the thread!

Long Range watches Needlenose and Duskwing takeoff. He hopes Duskwing will come back in one piece, wasn't his fault if two Autobots didn't have the common decency to say on whose side they were.
"I need to get Hook or somebody to build me a hover pack or something. Failing that I need to find someone strong enough to lift me while flying." He says, waiting for Sky-Byte to set off again.

Oh but he does worry. Duskwing's been a loyal trooper so far and Sky-Byte would loath to lose him.
The look of 'Watch your mouth and tailfins with Needlenose' passed to Duskwing might be missed--or misinterpreted entirely. But Sky-Byte's optics follow the two fliers' exit until they fall out of thread. That's when he turns back to boggle at Long Range.
"I do not think either option is going to be viable any time soon." With that, Sky-Byte transforms and 'swims' off. He has someone he needs to look at.

Long Range shrugs at Sky-Bytes comment, and watches him for a bit as he swims off.
Now just to find somewhere to slack off and refuel.
