Fleetwind, sadly, does not miss.
Such a move was simply not one that Misfire anticipated, and he realizes the danger a moment too late. He does jerk to one side in an attempt to dodge, but the pastel Seeker lands solidly on Misfire's left wing, knocking the Targetmaster off balance. Misfire manages to get straightened out just in time to avoid getting swamped by a wave.
Lost time and lost ground give the others a decent lead. Misfire chuckles as he pushes his speed to maximum. Winning isn't the issue with him, not now. But he sure is learning a bit about his fellow fliers.

Duskwing, being Duskwing, hurtled obliviously on--until the gusting winds forced him down onto the deck to find a favorable tailwind. He roared just above the waves now, flying over them like they were hills...
They were as tall as hills. The spray was blinding, and the heavy rain partially obscured his radar. The wavetops obscured the rest of it. Only his gyrocompass kept him going in a straight line.
"I hope the edge a' dis storm is dis way," Duskwing muttered. "Think Misfire pointed me the long way."
Rain and spray covered his windshield; somewhere out there were the other two. He wondered if they were still skimming the waves too, and if they were ahead or behind him.
It could be embarassing if they were ahead of them and Duskwing didn't see them in time...

As soon as Fleetwind accomplishes his tricky maneuver, he returns to pyramid jet mode and rockets after Duskwing. He doesn't gloat, doesn't send any taunts over their shared frequencies - these facts themselves say something about him.
He starts to close the distance between himself and Duskwing, before he runs into the same spray that's holding the other up. As soon as it hits, he changes direction, gaining altitude to go after visibility. After all, he can't win if he just rear-ends Duskwing.
This causes him to lose time, but he's hoping he can make up for it when his path is clearer.

Misfire is making up time as best he can. When the waves and the rain began make the low road more treacherous, he climbs, but he also swings off to one side. Visibility is practically nil, and he's flying almost entirely by radar. But a little ways to the left there is less rain. The fact that it actually takes him closer to a part of the ragged edge of the storm is a bonus.
Straight lines aren't always the shortest route. Especially when dealing with a mutable think such as a storm. The "edge" is always moving.

Frustrated by the lack of visibility, Duskwing decides to buck the crosswinds at altitude and pulls up, above the spray and waves--and into the hail.
"Ow! Dese t'ings are almost big enough to dent an Autobot!" Not him, though they are annoying. Duskwing climbs higher yet, fighting headwinds--and finally spots Misfire on his radar.
The sneaky bastard was ahead of him--and the storm had moved! "How'd he do dat?"
Duskwing snarled and opened his throttle, and re-lit his afterburners. He ignored the yellow nag-lights that warned of excessive fuel consumption rates--of course it was, he was using his afterburners! This was a race, speed was important!

Fleetwind's attempts to gain altitude do him little good, for, as the others relatively clear spots, the pastel wonder finds himself once more in the thick of things, being pelted by hail.
"Blast it, I've had it with this," he grumbles before diving sharply downwards. Faster and faster he goes, giving the appearance that he's going to crash into the ocean...
...and then he does, diving deep enough that he's no longer touched by the storm on the surface, and then straightens out, flying underwater for a distance.
Ah, the joys of being a cartoon-universe Decepticon. This means he'll probably be coming in last place, however.

Misfire continues to navigate as fast as possible through the storm, but the route he takes is far from straight, zigging and zagging between patches of precipitation. He doesn't bypass them all- no one could- and he takes another beating from some hail when he opts to run through a large patch rather than waste more time swinging wide around it.
And there's the edge of the storm
It looks like Duskwing is fairly close behind, which pleases the Targetmaster until Misfire realizes he can't place Fleetwind. It's bothersome. Not so much in that he's worried that he's been beaten; if that has happened no worries. But this was a strong storm, Fleetwind had admitted to not being as familiar with storms on organic worlds, and the last read Misfire had on Fleetwind, the Seeker was diving.
Misfire breaks through the storm's edge, then does a tight turn so that he's flying parallel to the line. If Fleetwind doesn't show soon after Duskwing, Misfire is heading back in to look for him. He had been overcharged when they started, and he isn't in danger of running out of fuel. Not yet anyway.

Duskwing rocked and rolled, chasing the winds and broke out of the storm just behind Misfire
"Hah! Dis was da right way!" he said, rolling and skidding in the strong winds swirling ahead of the squall. "Hey, where's Fleet?"
For lack of a better idea, Duskwing banked and followed Misfire. "Uh, now what?"

As the others begin their search, Fleetwind bursts from the water behind them in a spray of water. He spins into a transform, and finishes with a robot-mode mid-air pirouette. He finishes his spin, scanning the area around him as he does, and it is this way that he spots the others.
It's pretty obvious what they're doing.
"Misfire! Duskwing! Over here!"

Misfire answers Duskwing once the Seeker is close enough "Don't know. He hasn't come out yet. If he doesn't soon we-"
He breaks off as Fleetwind suddenly pops back into view on his radar- from the beneath the water's surface Misfire executes a quick loop and half roll which puts him headed back toward the pastel Seeker.
"Well I'll be damned," Misfire says, once he's close enough, "You're amphibious, too? Maybe I come from the wrong reality."
"If we head south for short bit before cutting back toward land, we should be able to bypass any more heavy weather. This is a pretty fast moving storm, and it's headed north and west."
OOC: If everyone's agreeable, I'm cool with fading out after this round on them head back in.

"He's where?" Duskwing banked steeply--too steeply--and started spinning as his wings stalled out of the turn.
"Whoa! Help, I can't swim!" Duskwing yelled as he bellied into the waves--then transformed--and promptly sank from sight, thrashing wildly.
--- OOC: sure, as soon as someone reminds Dusky he has lifters that work underwater now... ;-)

"Anti-gravs aren't atmospherically dependant," Fleetwind starts to explain to Misfire, "although water resistance and pressure potentially present pro-" and then Duskwing goes into the drink.
Fleetwind stifles a faint sigh, switches to radio, and using low power repeats, //Anti-gravs aren't atmospherically dependant. You're not going to want to let yourself get too deep, though, because the pressure might start causing problems. Also, if you've got anything left on you not airtight, you// shouldn't have been flying in the rain //might want to close 'em up now.//
The Seeker offers a faint smile, and nods. "Good idea, Misfire. I'm beginning to get a bit low, anyway."
OOC: Fine by me.

If Misfire was in robot mode, he'd be facepalming. Instead, Aimless does it for him, also adding a few choice words that Misfire is very glad only he can hear. He wants to help, but Misfire can't swim either. Fleetwind doesn't seem to be too worried about Duskwing, and what had he been saying? 'Not atmospherically dependent'? And Duskwing had the anti-gravs now....but it seems like it would take a lot more than a basic lifter upgrade to let someone fly underwater. "So... the anti-gravs give you two bonuses? Interesting," Misfire circles the area where Duskwing went down, waiting for the Seeker to hopefully reappear, "Wouldn't have thought it worked that way, but I'm not an engineer." Didn't want to close the thread on Dusky being underwater

Duskwing flailed as he sank into the deep water, then froze, still sinking, as he pondered Fleetwind's words.
Anti-gravs aren't atmospherically dependant. You're not going to want to let yourself get too deep, though...
Atmospherically de-what-who? Duskwing thought. Oh, don't need air to work. What the slag is that supposed to do to help? I'm in water, not air!
Water that was getting increasingly cold and squeezing his sealed cockpit canopy like a vise.
Water... not air.
Oh. That's what Fleetwind meant!
Duskwing turned on his lifters and slowly rose out of the cold, dark sea, watching in distracted amazement at the phosporescent sea life down there. He watched something larger than Astrotrain swim by, monstrous flippers stroking up and down, illuminated by glowing spots along its side like so many lighted portholes...
When he finally broke surface, Duskwing replied to Fleetwind, // Hey! Why didn't you just say dey work underwater, insteada being all cryptic-like! //
Fortunately, his engines still worked once the water poured out of them and Duskwing transformed and joined the rest of them on their flight back. --- Duskwing thanks you for not leaving him sunk. ;-)
