Swindle nods. "Time is money, after all. I look forward to doing business." Even if you do have a creepy supervillian-esque clock fixation. The merchant turns to watch as the porcupine gets lasered down and dragged away, then settles back into his seat. The asking price for the Egg has doubled already. He may not have brought enough.

Poor Rodimus and his Savior of All Life issues. Some people deserve to die for their stupidity, dear.
Botanica sighs and reaches up to manually turn off her radio. People forget that hers is external. In theory, no one should be able to hear the conversation but her. But the way one of the security guards just stiffened and looked toward the Autobots might mean otherwise.
The big players continue to wait.
Noah's smile widens, just a touch.
"As do I, Swindle."

Soundwave continues to his quiet watch over the auction. Nothing had quite peaked his interest, aside from the egg, which seemed to gain more than a few looks from the crowd. Perhaps that particular artifact may actually be- Wait, what's this?
Soundwave watches a poor misguided creature thought it was a bright idea to charge the stage wit ha blade and cries of death. He met his end quite quickly. Soundwave would've almost thought it humorous if it wasn't so pathetic. Ah, well. It's entertaining all the same.

Bambi actually winces as the death metal porcupine is dispatched so... so... casually. Like he was nothing. Sure, she's seen people die before. Nature red in tooth and claw. Land mines. She says she is strong, a predator in spirit if not in diet, but that... gets to her.
Trying to distract herself, she flips out her sketchbook and, peering around shoulders, she tries to sketch down what she can see of the egg, frowning thoughtfully.
The auctioneer continues, riding on the crest of frenzy, "...do I hear 40,000 shanix? 40,000 to the biotaform on the left! Do I hear..."

Rodimus notices that there are security guards looking his way, and he looks back, optics wide and confused as to why he's being looked at. He didn't even do anything this time!
He then looks around, noticing that the bidding really seems to be picking up, before glancing down at the others. He peers at Bambi's notepad with faint curiosity, but then goes back to watching the auction.

Swindle is mildly impressed that Be'net knows his name. He is, after all, an up-and-coming figure in the local business community. But it shows that the man does his research.
The arms dealer raises his paddle to bid as the auctioneer calls for 50,000 shanix. He doubts he's going to get the Egg at that price, but entering the bidding now is considerably less asinine than swooping in with a bid once the auctioneer announces "Going once! Going twice!"

Fifty thousand seems to be the turning point, as more of the monied crew are putting up their paddles now. The old nun in the back waves her paddle negligently; like Swindle, she isn't expecting to win the egg for such a pittance. But most of the larger players know of her interest all ready. She might as well declare herself formally.
Vy'lein has not yet raised his, however. He's watching Dr. Perspicax and company, a slight smile on his face. Really, he's just waiting for the lightweights to back off and let the real powers play.
Botanica fidgets a bit in her seat. This entire experience is starting to unsettle her.

Bambi stares up at Rodimus Prime with innocent blue optics. She is by no means an expert, but she's been researching the Egg, and she has a score of notes jotted down. The problem is that most of the myths about the Egg contradict each other. So the stone sculpture sitting up on the block certainly matches some of the descriptions, but not all of them.
Bambi is not the only one in the crowd frowning and flipping through notes.
The real hitch is that the thing on the block doesn't quite match the description provided by the archaeologist who supposedly discovered it. it's close, so very close, but it's juuuuust a bit off, if only one's senses are good enough to see it and if one read that original paper.
Maybe a fake in case a terrorist tries to take it out, and the real thing will be handed over to the owner, once purchased?
But it's funny that of all the archaeologists here, the one who supposedly found it isn't here, either.
Bambi flips to a copy of that paper and runs a claw over a few choice lines in it, looking up at Rodimus Prime again.
Either way, it's not like one can afford not to bid, in such matters of power, and if the item isn't real... they buyer doesn't have to pay. But someone will assuredly pay.
No sooner has the auctioneer acknowledged Swindle's bid is he acknowledging the Reverend Mother's bid next, and then a lean alien with the look for a shooter and then... it's up to 70,000 already?

Rodimus tilts his head at Bambi's frantic sketchbook review, and leans forward, checking to see what lines she seems to be running her claw over. His optics flare slightly, and he glances up at the egg, then back down at the sketchbook. Then he looks around the room itself. He shakes his head faintly.
Then he overhears what the price is up to and glances at the ceiling in a move that seems to suggest eye-rolling. Oh, brother.

Swindle will bid again once the amount gets up to 100,000 shanix, but he won't feel good about it. It's not all he can afford, but it's getting into territory Swindle is uncomfortable with. If he spends too much here and can't recoup the investment he's going to have to make some serious budget cuts. And if he ends up with the Egg and then finds out it's fake, heads are going to roll.

Botanica likewise peers down at Bambi's notes. Hrm. Chances are higher that the egg is a fake than not, but she can understand why people bid on it regardless. Those interested cold not risk losing an artifact of such supposed significance, even if they are simply throwing good money after bad.
The nun doesn't bid again, not at the moment.
Noah simply continues to look quietly amused about the entire proceeding.

Bambi looks like she is getting progressively angrier as time goes on. This bodes ill.
"Do I hear-"
"150,000," says the man with Dr. Perspicax, rather calmly.
C'mon, come out and play.

Rodimus's jaw drops as he hears the bid, and he turns to get a look at the one who just made the bid.
It's the one with the girl from the crash scene!
He turns back and shakes his head, bringing his hand to his forehead. "This is slagging insane," he murmurs, exasperated.
Then he considers what he'd do if they were auctioning, say, the Matrix. And he honestly believed that it was.
Okay, that helps put things in perspective.

Swindle sits out this round of bidding, once again deciding to wait and see how things go. He's starting to notice that something's a bit off. Certain people around the room seem put off. And yet the bids keep rising by leaps and bounds. It looks like it could hit a million. He quietly hooks up to the local wireless network and accesses the account books for the DMC. "Hm." This could delay going public with the stock.

The old nun's paddle goes up again, but before her bid is really even registered, a quiet, commanding voice cuts across from the front of the room.
"250,000," Vy'lein says, raising his paddle and smirking slightly as he bows his head in mock respect at the gentleman with the good doctor.
Botanica blinks. Oh dear. Things are getting quite serious, aren't they?
