Oracle just shrugs, looking cheerful as she watches Magnus test the ground. "We can do this however you'd like to, though I suppose a spar might let you gauge my abilities a bit. I don't believe you've ever really seen me fight, have you?" Either a spar or just a training session, she was going to guess he had more of an idea of what went into appropriate formal training than she did, for all that she was teaching Mirage herself. She did think it made sense to test current abilities before starting off, in any case.

Magnus shakes his head before stopping on a slab of concrete. It isn't a particularly large slab, but steady enough to give both of them solid footing and a little bit of room to get going.
"I haven't," he agrees, then turns. "And I'll be honest; I've never given lessons to someone with a solid background in hand-to-hand combat." Mirage, he feels, doesn't count if only because the dilettante has tried a little bit of everything and mastered little but the rifle. "So a spar seems as good a place as any to start. Shall we begin?" he asks without assuming any sort of position.

Well then it seems like this whole production is lots of firsts, how amusing. Hilarity will hopefully not be the result.
Testing her footing on the slab, and giving her teacher/opponent a good look over, searching for weaknesses, Oracle nods. "I see no reason to not start." That said she bounces on her toes a few times as she watches Magnus, but doesn't make a move toward him. Then it occurs to her after a long enough pause that he's probably waiting for her to attack, just like she was waiting for him.
Hm, this is awkward.

Diffusion is primarily reactive, yes; not wholly, and certainly not after aeons of adaptation and alteration. Magnus shifts his weight, tucks his right arm up to guard, and leads in with a simple left jab, as straightforward as fisticuffs ever seem to get.

While Oracle can, and certainly has before, use more aggressive attack forms, unless she wants to go poking holes in Magnus she needs a bit of inertia for most of her preferred combat tactics. And while she can certainly generate that momentum...it might be a bit awkward to do so.
But! The problem is solved when Magnus throws a punch. Oracle almost sways out of the way as she twists to the outside to avoid it, then strikes with rigid fingers for the elbow joint of his extended arm with the momentum of the dodge behind her. No pointy bits, but it's easy enough to adapt as the strikes are almost the same, just without the shredding.

There's only an inch or two of air between Oracle's fingertips and Magnus's elbow when he moves, bending his arm and making a grab for hers with his left hand. He pivots at the same time to put himself on the outside of her arm, where he can try to lock his right hand on her shoulder and set his right foot to knock her left out from under her. It's basic and he's willing to wager she can evade, but it certainly worked on Blitzwing.
