"No," Rodimus says, tone firm but soft, so quiet that he might well be talking to himself. "There are absolutes."
When the woman hits the ground, Rodimus strides forward and in a smooth, fluid motion, swoops to one knee to lift he egg. "No one has a right to this. It owns itse- oh!" His optics widen, flaring brighter and whiter as he touches the thing. So like the Matrix, but different, too... uncorrupted... younger... more predatory... alien.
As he stands up straight, his mouth still slightly open in awe, a small piece of the shell flakes off. Beneath it a red-gold light shines out. He stands there for a moment, transfixed, then steps towards the pedestal.
"Time for you to go home," he whispers to it, lowering the stone egg in place...

Botanica smiles grimly as Prowl knocks the woman down. Foolish girl, to think that she deserves life more than an entire planet. Slowly, Botanica pushes herself off the ground, still unsteady. The soil is still dead, but there's something else now.
Hope.
A tiny sliver of light in the darkness.
She makes her way over to Bambi, intent on checking on the little Dinobot. While she does so, Botanica directs a question at the would-be egg napper.
"Where is the doctor's wife?"

Shockwave just barely twists his head to glance at Needlenose, most of the gunformer's attention on the egg in Rodimus's hands.
//You were delayed more than I expected. Was there a problem below?// he asks the Mayhem. //Did Swindle, perhaps, refuse to accept that his part in this was over?//
Shockwave does not know that Needlenose was unconscious for a short time, missing the orders.
His headfins twitch backwards sharply when that shell cracks. Shockwave is not Matrix-sensitive. A part of him knows that even were he to get his hands on the Matrix, he will never be able to use it, not like a Chosen can. He doesn't want to. He merely wants access to what lies within it. The knowledge. The power.
//Is this place familair to you at all?//

Prowl had been expecting a bit more, but with certain Decepticons nearby, had been waiting to show it. Instead, he finds his target goes down easily, so he steps back after landing from his jump, but stands by her.
"You won't be getting anything today, I'm afraid," Prowl says, standing guard to make sure she doesn't do anything dangerous.

Standing as far away from Shockwave as she can get and still do some good if needed, Oracle relaxes from where she had been ready to jump into the situation, but Prowl has handled it nicely and Rodimus takes over from there. She's rather nervous about the egg though. That...looks not of the normal. It's probably what they came here to do, but she's not going to go anywhere near it.
So instead she turns her attention to watching for attacks. That woman may have cronies, or Shockwave may change his mind about attacking.
Skippable unless addressed or attack occurs.

//Slagged if I know 'bout 'im,// Cannonball answers.
A pothole rattles the ridculously-colored Magnum, causing Cannonball to grumble.
//What's the plan, anyway? An' did I miss anything while I was out? Knew I shoulda took that wench down back at Brigadoon's 'ouse when it was just the two o' us...//

//Her,// Swindle corrects. Maybe the reason Cannonball is so unlucky with the ladies is he can't tell who they are.
//The plan? The plan is we get up there wait for an opportunity to get the egg without getting our heads blown off. While you were out Shockwave ordered everyone to stand down. Skystrike and Needlenose got zapped when you did.//
And it appears he's arrived at the top of the mountain, or near enough that he can see what's going on. The arms dealer transforms and tries to keep out of sight.

When the egg touches the stone altar, there is a sweeping burst of red light, blazing off toward the horizon, saturating the land and air and sky, painful to behold.
Where she's fallen, Bambi drags an arm over her optics, squinting and hissing a little.
Around the barren, blasted mountaintop, seeds sprout, grow, and come to bloom, fireflowers, yellow and orange and red, the kind that only germinate after a fire, the first to bloom in the wake of destruction.
The egg chips, cracking, revealing more fiery red innards. The light around it coalesces and hangs like an aura, becoming something more solid, a being of star ruby and fire opal, burning brightly -
- a hatchling of some alien predatory bird. Hovering in the air like a mirage, the entity regards the whole of Pz-Zazz, including those standing on the lonely windswept peak, in a single glance. In the mad, murderous eyes of any raptorial bird, there is always a sense of wild, untamed hunger, and it is that fathomless, unnerving glance it fixes on Rodimus Prime, who placed it here in this singular place and brought it to be.
It has a question for him, a psychic kreel to pierce the minds of all and sundry.
MAMA?

Needlenose almost asks, 'Wait, you were expecting me here?' but he manages to keep from making it obvious that he thought he was disobey orders. Instead he just answers, //No problem! I was just groggy from the plant lady's zapping me, was all.//
He looks around. //The place is familiar, yeah, but I don't remember it being this de- by the gods!// He takes several steps back, shielding his optics at the brightness and looking away. When the sweeping light passes, he lowers his arm and stares, wide-eyed, at the energy-aura-bird-thing. He covers his audios at the sound of its cry - did that thing just call Rodimus Prime its mother?! - and steps back again.
//Now that? That's new. That is unfamiliar.//

Rodimus does not look away from the light. He takes a step or two back as the egg hatches, but then stands there, staring up at events, transfixed, mouth open in awe. He doesn't look around to see the life returning to the mountaintop. He doesn't have to. For the moment, he has optics only for the creature before him.
And then it looks right at him, and speaks to him, and somehow, his optics get wider, while a smile, almost bashful, pulls at the corners of his mouth.
"Oh! No..." He takes a step towards the creature and reaches toward it, hand up-held, but not near enough to actually touch it. "No, I'm sorry. I'm... not your mother. I just... just put you back."

As the egg hatches, Botanica stops stock still and stares in wonder at the new (old?) life that has come into being before them. An odd sort of smile plays on her lips as she feels the planet sigh and reach out to try and embrace that young fire. It may live yet, this broken and beaten world.
As the bird screams its question to Rodimus, Botanica can't help but laugh lightly. Oh, her head will ring for days from the aftereffects, but it doesn't matter. There is life here now.
She crouches down next to Bambi, partially to shield the Dinobot from the bright light which seems to cause her pain and partially, to get a better look at Bambi's wound.

Shockwave does not look away from the light. Rather, he stares into that fiery power releasing from the egg with singular fascination.
Power.
Raw, crackling, unchecked power. Is that what Shockwave will have one day, when he uses his skills and constructs to bleed the Matrix of its knowledge?
//It mistaking Rodimus Prime for its maternal unit or it hatching into a firebird at all?// he asks.
//I was unaware you were injured.// Of course, Needlenose's injuries are not as obvious as Shockwave's rather extensive ones. //Allowing the Prime to fulfill his function will in the end benefit us. For if the planet heals, it will serve us better.//
//If it does not heal, we now know where and in what shape its power lies.//

Prowl looks up, and simply stares. He is not used to seeing anything like that happening well... Ever. He backs up a bit to stand by Bambi and Botanica, and glances back.
"I am unaware of the full history of the egg... But is this supposed to happen?" He asks, his tone soft and one of a bit of awe.
It's not every day one sees something like this, after all.

So this firebird hatches, and plants grow.
...
Cannonball turns to Swindle, a rather annoyed look on his face. "...y'mean to tell me that One-Eyed Wondergun put us on a wild cybergoose chase for a glitchin' fertilizer bird?!"
The pirate huffs, shaking his head.

Technically it was Swindle who put them on the wild cybergoose chase.
The arms dealer frowns, looking over at Cannonball. "No way we're going to be able to turn a profit off the Egg now," he says with a sigh.
