The not-quite resting Sentinel Prime notes down that Skyfire is touchy about his name and perfectly willing to keep ranting about a dead cyberhorse to someone who is apparently sleeping, and Ultra Magnus is perfectly willing to apologise to Skyfire, hmph. Then he really is asleep. Sentinel Prime was pretty exhausted, despite protests to the contrary. - - - OOC: Still here, obviously, but skippable due to being asleep.

"So I've heard," Skyfire said, "from several people. Curiously, though, the people named Jetfire that have arrived here are completely different. It makes me wonder if there is a Skyfire in their realities, and by what quirk of chance the Jetfire you know got named that instead of 'Skyfire'."
He sighed. "I suppose there's a Starscream in your reality, too? Everyone seems to have one."

Ultra Magnus shrugs and regards Skyfire with a steady gaze.
"What quirk of chance named you Skyfire," he wonders, "and not Jetfire? Seems you're the exception." He settles into his bunk, back against the wall. "As for Starscream, yes. He's a murderous, conniving, backstabbing, ruthless opportunist. And a former gladiator, which makes him even more dangerous in combat than he should be." Why does Magnus say that his Starscream was once a gladiator? Because most Decepticons of his reality started as gladiators, especially Megatron's core group of followers.

"Of the universes we know about, yes." Skyfire smiles, then frowns again as Ultra Magnus describes his Starscream.
"My Starscream was originally a scientist, engineer and explorer--though he was--is--a military-build. He always did have a mean streak--self-centered, vain, proud, touchy about that pride, and arrogant in his self-assurance, but not naively so. He knew the universe could kill him if he let it; he kept aware of the odds, and did his best to stack them in his favor. He tended to deal with other sentients, including other Cybertronians, the same way--as threats to be manipulated around, the odds stacked in his favor."
"He was--is--very good at what he did, though--best flyer I ever knew, fine tactician, good wingman. Bad enemy, and, knowing him, terrible leader."

For a long moment, Ultra Magnus does and says nothing. He can't really fault Skyfire for feeling the need to share; Magnus gave a short description of his own Starscream, after all. It's the immensely familiar way Skyfire speaks of the Starscream from his reality that he finds odd.
Then again, his Jetfire was formerly a Decepticon. Whether or not Jetfire and Starscream were closely acquainted, he has no idea.
"I take it you two were familiar," he eventually says in a low, vaguely disapproving rumble. He doesn't even approve of his own Decepticon associations these days.

Skyfire looks mildly surprised. "Oh. Ah, you haven't read my file, then? I supposed some explanation is in order." He shifts in his bunk, lacing his fingers together over his head with a click-click-click of metal digits.
"I was pulled here from the middle of a crash-landing on an alien planet which I have been told was ancient Earth, about 9 million years in the past of most everyone else. There was no War back then, and Decepticons a forgotten--or, as Kup assures me, a suppressed bit of history. I was in the Exploration Division of the Academy of Science, and Starscream was my partner."
"Originally they sent exploratory starships like myself out solo, but we lost too many to unexpected hazards--and hostility. After they started assigning each starship a junior military aerospace fighter as a partner, a lot more of us survived to bring home our discoveries," Skyfire said, a certain somberness in his tone.
"I didn't know what happened in the future, and when Starscream answered my distress call on Gillanan III, I thought he was my partner and my friend," Skyfire said, and there is no joy in his voice. "I was wrong. He had changed. And yet... not really. He was always what he is now, only he became more so."

"…Ah." There's an element of sympathy to that one syllable; Magnus knows what it's like to be betrayed by someone he thought was trustworthy, after all. And too, he feels anger on Skyfire's behalf for the same reasons. He has no idea what else to say, though.

"Yeah." Skyfire doesn't have much more to say, himself. He doesn't yet know Ultra Magnus well enough to unburden himself to him, nor does Ultra Magnus know him so well, either. And he still needs to recharge. "I, uh, don't mean to keep you from recharge. Sorry for rambling on."

OOC: Seems that way. Magnus will be out of thread unless stopped.
"I've had plenty of rest, actually," Magnus admits. He takes a moment or two to shift his bulk off the berth and stand. "So," he adds with a polite nod, "I'll leave the both of you to it." He keeps his steps as light as he can make them on his way out.
