Day 17, semi-private, Event Horizon holodeck. OOC Note: Permission from Adminimus for thread.
Dinobot has booked the hard-light sim room for a most unusual training session. He intends to conduct it with all the grace and refinement he shows in all aspects of his life.
The room, at the moment, looks like a training dojo, scaled to Dinobot, with racks of weapons on the walls and padded mats on the floor. Sunlight streams in through the high windows, creating patterns of light and shadow in the room. Through the windows, a primeval jungle is visible.
The Maximal sits cross-legged on the floor, his sword across his lap, waiting for his student to arrive.

The completeness of the illusion is temporarily broken as the sim room door manifests out of thin air and opens, allowing through one of the tiniest prospective swordsmen the Autobot's have ever seen. Spy Shot turns to watch as the door closes and disappears, always amazed at how this strange, hard-light world can coexist with the true physical world, hiding it away until he can barely tell it's there at all.
Finally he turns back to Dinobot and approaches him at a jog. Stopping a few meters away at what he deems an acceptable distance he tilts his head and flops to the ground, doing his best to imitate Dinobot's pose, though the soles of his feet press together rather than cross.
"Hello," he says. "I am ready to begin training in combat."

"No, you are not," Dinobot says simply as he rises to his feet, stowing his sword in subspace. "But we will begin anyway."
That statement and Dinobot's optics glowing green instead of red is the only warning Spy Shot 6 is going to get before the Maximal blasts at him with his optic lasers.
Incidentally, the simulation has been set so that if either of them 'dies' they'll respawn in the spots where they've just been sitting.

"Oh, oka-" Spy Shot was not expecting that, and promptly acquires a new alt mode of 'charred stain on the ground'. However, he quickly respawns and the moment he is tangible again his flash pulses with a blinding burst of light, and he books it for the nearest piece of cover, even if that means making for one of the weapon racks on the walls.
In a few minutes he might actually start thinking again. But this? Is pure reflex.

The weapon racks on the walls are pretty much the only cover on the room, unless Spy Shot wants to burrow under a floor mat . . . or jump out the window into the jungle.
Dinobot snarls "Why is it always my eyes?!" when the little camerabot flashes him, then quickly drops down into beast mode (which still has functioning eyes), hissing as he glances about for Spy Shot's position.
"Your first instinct was to attack me- good! But not good enough!" the Maximal growls. "You must always be on your guard, ready to avoid an incoming attack. The enemy will give you no warning!" he shouts as he pounces at the smaller Transformer, aiming to snatch him up in his foreclaws.

At the mention of being on guard to avoid incoming attacks, Spy Shot's head swivels around - not a complete 180, but close - to look at Dinobot. He doesn't need to look where he's going anymore; he has himself charted on a perfect mental map of what he's seen. It appears he is about to be pounced on. How unfortunate!
He almost transforms into a camera - it's his second well-ingrained startle reflex, after all - but logic overrides the impulse. However, he's not sure what to replace the response with. He's never been attacked by a giant velociraptor before! Lenses and machinery in his chest begin to realign from input to output, but that takes time that he doesn't have.
At a bit of a loss for what to do, he spins to face Dinobot, trips a bit and lands flat on his back, then reaches out a pincer to, well, pinch something on Dinobot's approaching claws.

Dinobot successfully grabs Spy Shot 6, but Spy Shot 6 also grabs Dinobot, latching on to one of the raptor's fingers in his pincers. The Maximal unclenches the fist he's holding the little Autobot in and lifts him up to eye level, watching him dangle there.
"Your powers of observation are your greatest strength. You must take in everything about your enemy at a glance, and know what he will do before he does. You cannot hope to defeat your foes through strength of arms, so you must rely on your intellect." Dinobot says all this as though he's talking about the weather. The last sentence, however, is accompanied by a flick of the wrist meant to send Spy Shot sailing into the wall.

The flick doesn't quite have the intended results. Oh, the jolt hurts sure enough, and Spy Shot's shoulder probably can't handle another jerk like that on its own, but like many small, pincered things he has a surprisingly strong grip. As he swings back down from Dinobot's flick, he tries to get a second pincerhold on Dinobot's finger. A two-handed grip is better than one!
"But what do I do once I know what he will do?" he asks in what is bound to be no more than split second of respite.

"You must strike his weak point and destroy him!" Dinobot snarls. That should be obvious! The raptor brings his hand to his mouth and attempts to crush Spy Shot in his jaws, though if the little cameraformer is fast enough, he may be able to escape.
Once Dinobot's mouth is no longer occupied (one way or another) he'll chide "You cannot afford to stand still in combat!" Split second respite is over.

"But-" Alas, no time for more questions now! He's not going to let Dinobot chomp him, though. There are telltale signs that Dinobot is going to move his hand, however briefly before he does so. A twitch of cybernetic muscles in his arm. Spy Shot saw it when Dinobot tried to fling him into the wall, and the instant he notices a similar motion he release his grip.
Now what was that about weak points? What is Dinobot's weakness? Well, he was complaining about his eyes...
As he falls, Spy Shot aims his chest at one of Dinobot's eyes and fires off a beam of light. Then he hits the ground, and his internals jolt out of precise alignment. He can feel his repair systems kick into gear, but he won't shooting for awhile. Back to Plan A then. He rushes to the wall to climb.

As soon as Spy Shot 6 aims himself at Dinobot's face, the raptor blocks, closing his eyes, turning his head, and throwing his hands up over his face. He's all ready to lecture the camerabot about how if he just does the same thing over and over the enemy will quickly come up with a counter when he feels his right palm begin to burn painfully.
He quickly moves and opens his eyes, looking at the wound. Spy Shot's laser has burned right through his synthetic flesh, exposing the blue circuitry beneath. Dinobot flexes his hand, testing it. His mobility is impaired.
"A good strike," he snarls, baring his teeth in a grin and spinning around to try and swipe Spy Shot off the wall with his tail. "Why do you climb?!" he questions.

It's not easy to avoid a strike when you're climbing a wall and Dinobot's tail sends Spy Shot flying through the air and into another wall. His screen cracks on impact and his internal machinery is knocked further out of place, small components and bits of plastic casing flying away from him. In comparison, his drop to the floor is nothing.
He remains online, staring blankly at the ceiling, but at this point he'd likely be better off dying and respawning anew. Struggling to move his limbs, he finds them largely unresponsive. Unable to stand or even flip himself over to crawl, he can only weakly attempt to drag himself away from the wall. Maybe he can reach a training mat... try to hide underneath...
"C-c-co-" A crackle. "-ver. Hi-d-d-d-d-d-" His voice box locks as he tries, as ever, to answer questions posed to him
This isn't like Sector Seven where the day-to-day game was starting hidden and remaining hidden. It wasn't even like his first day of life, when he'd had no advantage but the element of surprise, for even then there had been copious places to hide and humans had no spare sets of eyes. To be honest, he hasn't really been in any hostile situations where there wasn't anywhere to hide, even if said hiding place was on one of his team mates.
This is a new situation. He needs a new strategy. He isn't sure what it should be. Creative thinking never has been one of his strong points.

Dinobot growls, pacing over to Spy Shot 6's tiny body, claws rasping menacingly over the floor-mats.
"Predacons have a term for when enemies try to run across large open spaces to reach insufficient cover: turkey shoot. It's considered highly amusing," he says, tone chiding. "If there is no place to hide, you may be better off forcing your enemy to think defensively. Blinding me was a good move. It forced me to transform so that I could see. If you can take the initiative and force your opponent to react to you, you're closer to defeating him."
He places his foot on Spy Shot, but doesn't apply any pressure yet.

Oh, Dinobot's foot has blocked the view of the ceiling. That's unfortunate, it's a rather nice ceiling. It helps him focus on Dinobot's voice, though, even as various systems in him shutdown.
"I-i-i-i-ni-i-i-" He gives up on speaking out loud. //I do not-// He pauses to put his words together, because thinking is hard, most of his power rerouting to his repair systems. //I don't know what initiative to take.//
Flashy-thing people, run, hide, shoot them if it comes to that... That's pretty much his current repertoire! It's always served him before.

Dinobot brings his foot down hard on Spy Shot, ending his suffering for the moment.
"To take the initiative is to force your enemy to react to you rather than simply reacting to him, to force him into a defensive stance. It means he must concentrate on defending himself rather than killing you," he growls, transforming back to robot mode. He blinks his optics. They're still a bit hazy, but they'll clear up soon enough.
"If you run and hide, your enemy is free to hunt you down at his leisure. If you press the attack, you have assumed a measure of control over his actions." The Maximal swipes almost lazily at the little Autobot with the side of his hand. "It will not be easy. Squaring off against me is like fighting Trypticon for you. But you will learn."
OOC: Squishing by permission.
