Cannonball couldn't help but snicker a bit at Runamuck's comment. "Not sure if even the Autobots deserve that, Runamuck..." he says, mostly in jest, keeping pace with the others while waiting for a response on the radio...

"Oh, bother. We seem to be in a dead zone; I'm not getting a reply. Or perhaps they've succumbed to a surprise attack. Keep an optic alert--" Dead End broke off. Something had registered on his radar.
"Incoming, 12 o'clock. Maglev or hover vehicle, doesn't match any known Cybertronians here. Probably some local craft."

"Ah, come on, the Autobot's were asking for i-" Shortround starts, before he hears Dead End's message.
"Should I wait for a visual or just slag the sucker now?" Shortround asks, his voice full of enthusiasm. Finally, something to possibly blow up...

Runamuck chuckles. "Hey, just a thought."
He stops chuckling as Dead End speaks up. "So what's the plan, boss? We go to ground and wait it out, greet it full on, or go with the 'throw the hovercraft at it' idea?" There's a soft click as his armor unlocks, preparing to shift outwards but not yet doing so.

Dead End made a quick decision--"Pull off the road and let it go by. It may be a light-weight version of one of those road patrol tanks. Anyone remember what their security challenge range is?"
"Focus on the mission, Shortround. We're supposed to search for the Otherverse Autobots, not shoot up random drones. We are trying to avoid notice, remember?" Dead End said drily. He could just envision their short future once Shortround started shooting--bringing evil Decepticon jets and Rodimus Prime down on their tailgates, mostly likely.
Prime would eventually get them anyway, but at least they could finish the mission first.
Up ahead, Automatic Police Sentry Unit 345-A sped toward them, on the alert for reported traffic violators and vandals....

"Wot Dead End said," Cannonball adds, turning and rumbling off the road a fair distance before stopping, killing his engine. "Time t' play robopossum."

Shortround grumbles a bit. "Oh come on, it'd only be a small explosion...", however he moves off the road all the same and turns off his engines, landing on the ground.
However, Shortround's turret kept watch ahead. If it wasn't what Dead End said it was, it was going to end up in the middle of an inferno by the time Shortround had stopped firing...

Runamuck, rattling slightly with his armor unlocked, drifts casually off the road, rolling over to stop near Cannonball. If he happens to keep the sailor between himself and Shortround, surely it's pure coincidence. The Battlecharger's engine drops into idle, then silences, waiting for the threat to pass.

Unit 345-A drifted to a stop opposite the Decepticons idling off the road. It wasn't as heavy a unit as the road patrol tank Dead End had previously encountered; that one had been a military unit patrolling a wildlife preserve/restricted area for poachers and intruders; this one was a civilian police unit. It was smaller, more gently curved than the hulking tank; instead of a main gun, it had small turret with a stubby gun barrel that twitched from side to side, like a nervous mouse.
The gun was an EMP weapon, designed to halt law-breaking vehicles without harming the passengers. APSU 345-A hesitated; there were traces of recent activity, but nothing drawing power currently from the maglev grid, and no vehicle beacons in detection range. However, there were objects that didn't fit any known profile nearby.
Nothing pushed its action potentials above threshold levels; finally, the maglev robot defaulted to standard procedure and radioed a report to Central Control, where the computers filed it for immediate attention.
Alas that there was no one to pay attention any more.
Satisfied that procedure had been followed, APSU 345-A accelerated down the highway into the city, intent on investigating additional reports of vandalism of government property and the maglev grid.
Dead End waited for several minutes, then re-activated his radar at short range. He didn't rush back onto the road just yet. There might be a backup unit enroute.

Cannonball keeps quiet for the duration of the unit's occupation of the area, then opens his radio once it's gone. //Safe t' move on now, or do we 'ave other company coming?// he asks. He's eager to get a move on, and stealth isn't quite his forte.

Shortround starts up his turbines as soon as the tank moves on past, and hovers slightly off the ground.
//We'd better not have anything else coming// Shortround mutters, looking around slightly.

Runamuck's engine turns over as the unit leaves earshot. For a sports car, he's surprisingly quiet (then again, he runs on energon and related fuel substances, not petroleum). //Ready to move on now, boss?//

// Indeed, we are, // Dead End replied as he rolled back onto the road, headed in the opposite direction as the patrolling robot. // I detect no others in range. //
// We need to switch to an alternate search route. That robot was undamaged; it did not come across and challenge any Autobots on this road. // Dead End's tone was cool and composed; he didn't state the obvious--the robot just came from the direction they were heading.

//Hm...perhaps if we go to the outskirts of the city close to their base, maybe?// Cannonball muses on that a bit, then chuckles. //Though, t'be fair, if that thing had challenged our Autobots, it probably wouldn't have lived to come out here.// With that, he pulls back onto the road behind Dead End.
