Hey, Swerve isn't the only 'grown-up'. They're all plenty grown-up here in Wedge's own opinion.
"Sure thing, Gizmo. You know what they say about two bots being better than one, right?" Wedge nods enthusiastically at the blue carbot. The hiss of steam billowing off of Swerve brings a startled look towards the racer. Whoa, that's something you don't see every day.
"Well, the same then goes for you guys. We'll come straight back if any trouble heads your way." Wedge's tone is assuring and confident, even if his expression is slightly sour at Swerve's 'your blinkered heads'. There's no anxiety plaguing the Buildbot about his own health and luck. If anyone or anything bad gets close, he'll just knock it off and out.

Gizmo also finds himself staring just a bit at the steam billowing up from Swerve as he rinses off. Whoa, pretty cool... a little eerie, but cool. He forces himself to snap out of it and nods at the racer.
"Right... gotcha." Though he's bound and determined to at least try to defend himself decently if they happen to run into something else. He doesn't want to be the "damsel in distress" of the group, after all.
To Wedge he gives a grin and a thumbs-up. He feels a lot more comfortable about exploring with someone else's company, someone to watch his back for him and he can watch theirs in return. Sort of like Han Solo and Chewbacca, he thinks eagerly. (Though it escapes him at the moment that more often than not it was Han Solo who had to have his aft pulled out of hot water by the long-suffering Chewbacca a LOT more than the other way around...)

In another section of the smallish town the Autobots had discovered, Screwdriver works to cover a rather large wind-up bird. The bird had flown successfully, and it was from its back that she had spied the town, which she sought to investigate. Had she seen motion down there?
She finishes hiding the bird with what scrap there is, then gets down on her hands and knees in front of the scrap-pile, crouches down, and peers in. She whispers, "In the box was a work of art, an artificial nightingale most like the real one except that it was encrusted with diamonds, rubies and sapphires!" Then she stands up, looks around, and takes a running jump towards the nearest building, catching on to the roof with her hands, but just barely.
She scrambles gracelessly onto the rooftop.

"Yeah, yeah," Swerve grumbles, turning away from the pair of them with a scowl at the way they stare. Exhaust pipes get hot after long enough with the engine running. That's knowledge he figures is pretty basic. Kids.
Once they've gotten the lead out and are on their way, he sets to rinsing himself down in earnest. The cold water draws a quick hiss of surprise from him as it washes over parts more sensitive than his pipes, at least until he adjusts. Some reaching and twisting even lets him rinse out his front wheel wells. He grew accustomed long ago to having sand everywhere it could possibly reach, but it still feels pretty good to get rid of all the clinging grit. He's worked his way down to his legs before a thought strikes him.
"Hey!" he bellows, looking up. "Sideburn! You done yet?"

Yes hot exhaust pipes+water=steam, but it's still quite something to see. The Build Team doesn't seem to have an abundance of obvious exhaust pipes to try such a combination with, after all.
Wedge strides off, hoping to lead the way in this town exploration. He stops only to check if Gizmo is following and close behind before starting around a corner (a different one than he previously took off with). A small street of what could be residential buildings greets his vision. "So, what do you think we can find in a town like this?" Wedge halts, stooping down to peer into a window.
If anyone were around, they wouldn't even have to be looking hard to spot Wedge's orange bulk, maybe Gizmo's paint-job as well. It isn't as if they blend too well with the small place already.

Gizmo scurries after Wedge, glancing left and right to see if anything catches his optic. For a mech who mostly keeps to himself, he definitley is hard to miss -- blue and bright orange aren't a combination that serve well for camoflauge in almost any environment. Though maybe Kup knows of a planet where the landscape and vegetation are in handy shades of blue and orange...
"Dunno," Gizmo replies, crouching down to poke at an abandoned vehicle that kind of reminds him of an Earth pickup truck. "A town this small might not have a computer database to look at... but you never know. The entire 'small-town' deal could have been a front, ya know? Camoflauge for hiding a huge goverment project or something..." Yes, someone's seen too much X-Files and such shows and is letting their imagination run away with them. Hey, a nerd can dream, can't they?

From Screwdriver's high vantage, it's not long before she spots two bits of bright color moving about the town. She drops flat onto the roof and grins. Playmates! But games of surprise are more fun.
The toymaker squirms and creeps towards the edge of one of the buildings. It should be noted that she is, in fact, a few streets away from the Autobots. She opens up a compartment in her arm and pulls out a small ball. This one is swirled blue and pink, like a marble or bouncing ball, and is about the size of a fist. She grins. Then she drops the ball over the side of the building, gets up, and crawl-runs back to the opposite side where she jumps off the room and lands in a graceless heap, her leg and left arm detaching as she does.
If the others are being very, very quiet, they might even hear the clatter of the fall echo off the walls of the abandoned town.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the building, the ball Screwdriver dropped starts rolling down the street. As it rolls, it starts picking up debris - trash left by the hasty exit of the planet's former inhabitants. And as it picks up debris, it gets larger...

No answer from Sideburn yet. What's that dipstick doing, taking a nap? Swerve scowls even while he runs water over his bonnet in one last head to toe sweep, rinsing sand away from the vents and off his windscreen. It's the closest he's gotten to a full wash in a while and the closest he really wants to get; there's just no point to it.
Not that he hasn't done a lot of pointless things lately. He spits out a curse for his own stupidity and tosses the hose down, then stalks back toward where he's pretty sure he left Sideburn.
"Are you awake, kid?!"

A what? That expression shows clearly on Wedge's face as he turns back to look at Gizmo. "Well, okay, maybe." You've lost Wedge again. First Star Wars, now conspiracy theories. It's only a matter of time until the Buildbot starts pulling out construction topics and jargon now. "We'll see won't we? C'mon!"
Off Wedge bounds, pausing to peer down an intersection. His pause grows into an actual stop though as his receptors pick up an odd noise breaking through the quiet of the town. What in the world? Wedge visibly tenses, all sensors on high alert as all systems jump on guard.
"Whoa, what?" Wedge's confusion is back, but this time it's joined with a look of surprise and steely determination as an odd crunch-clank-crackle sound registers in his audios. It doesn't sound too close, but it's definitely getting louder. "You hear that, Gizmo?" The Buildbot is immediately on his way to clambering up a nearby house to get a better look. Height has never really been his ally.

OOC: I'm sincerely sorry that I up and disappeared on you guys. It's been a complicated summer for me, and not really something to go into here.
And there's Sideburn turning around the corner, looking dustier than he had been last time. He'd taken a quick drive around to test out the repairs and had ended up a bit lost.
"Whoa! Sorry! I'm here, okay?" He paused and looked around. "Is that shower Wedge talked about still available? Where are he and Gizmo anyways?"

Gizmo tends to be really good about confusing his audience -- not many mechs share his enthusiasm for Earth's science fiction and fantasy mythos. Maybe part of that is because most of what the humans have come up with is already old news to the Autobots. But hey, it's the camp factor that's part of the appeal, isn't it?
"Um... sorry," he tells Wedge at the sight of his "huh?" expression. "I... kinda go off on a tangent sometimes. If you get tired of me talking, let me know and I'll shut up, okay?"
He bends down to peer curiously into a building. Nope, no computer, at least not in this room. Looks like sleeping quarters of some kind, and judging by the toys loading the shelves this was either a child's bedroom or the lair of a collector...
"Huh?" He raises his head at Wedge's question. He really hasn't been listening... but now that Wedge has his attention he can make out a weird clanking and crunching as well. He straightens and goes to the building Wedge is perched on. "See anything?"

From his vantage point, it's possible that Wedge can see the spot of rust-red, now working to uncover the brightly shining bird-thing that she had previously hidden. Certainly, once she gets some of the refuse off of her mount, it's hard to miss the bird itself as it reflects the sunlight.
Or rather, it would be hard to miss that beacon, were it not for the large, distracting ball of junk that can be seen rolling down the road a few streets away, erratically crashing into things, picking them up, making them part of its mass as it moves on. Even as Wedge watches, the ball can be seen to get larger. It's already nearly the size of a Transformer.
And it's rolling in the direction of Swerve and Sideburn, though it's still some distance (and some streets) away.

Swerve comes to a screeching halt before he can run smack into Sideburn, then gives him a critical look up and down. Is that a fresh coating of dust?
"…S'back there," the racer mutters at length, hooking one thumb over a shoulder. "Around that building. Those two went off to look for a fuelling station." They can't possibly have already gotten into trouble, either; it's only been a minute or so since they left. Though Swerve has to wonder when he hears one faint, muffled crash, then another. Maybe I gave 'em too much credit. He turns to look the way they went – not that he can make them out through buildings – and squints suspiciously. …Frag it. If they need help, they'll call for it.

Well, it's not entirely Gizmo's fault that Wedge doesn't know what the carbot's talking about. After all, Wedge and his team spent a majority of their time underground, digging tunnels for the Autobots. When that wasn't happening, well, battle simulations and the occasional Cybertronian holo-vid were always something exciting. "Nah, it's interesting. I don't mind hearing about it...just never heard of it before, really," the Buildbot sounds slightly sheepish on that note.
Finally atop the small building (with a few small gouges with their chunks apologetically set aside to be fixed later), Wedge's first response is "Huh?" as following the odd sound brings him to the sight of the junk ball barreling through town. 'Where'd that---are there more?' A hurried glance and Wedge's optics catch the bright flash of Screwdriver's bird and the contrasting bit of her rusty color against the shine. "Yeah, huge growing junk ball growing huger by the second...and, I think--" He pauses tears his gaze away from the rolling larger-than-your-average-mech-now monstrosity to look back at the rust red and shiny. "We have some company. I don't know who."
//Hey! You on the--// slight pause //--bird! Identify yourself!// Wedge's voice blare's across a shortwave broadcast for the area. Shortly afterward, Wedge sends out a transmission to his team.

"Great! This dust really itches and we'll all probably feel better after getting some more fuel into us." Sideburn grins at the racer and starts to head where Swerve pointed.
He doesn't get more than a step or two before the muffled crashes reach his audios as well. He stops and turns towards the direction of the sounds, tensing slightly. "What the heck was that?" That's when Wedge's radio call comes through, which gives some explanation for the sounds.
He glances over at Swerve. "Never heard of a rolling junk ball. We should probably find it, while staying out of its way." Because being rolled over by a giant junk ball (or getting caught up in it) wouldn't be very impressive to the lady red sports cars back home.
