Gratitude on a Grand Scale

[Omega Supreme]

There is still a makeshift medical ward set up inside Omega Supreme, though some of the tables have been put away, and a small makeshift sleeping area.

He rumbles a reply, "Status: acceptable."

Social skills. He had them at one point, he thinks. He can remember it. It was so long ago, though.

Omega Supreme makes an effort, and inquires, "Status?"

"Oh, I'm fine," Holi answers, "thank you for asking." Tiny has decided that what's left of the medical tables is a sufficiently fascinating area to poke her nose about – certainly more interesting than Holi, who shifts his weight from one foot to the other and back. He brings his hands up front, fusses with them a moment, then puts them firmly to his sides.

Can't keep hesitating.

"I wanted to… that is, there's something I need to tell you, sir." He gulps; he doesn't want to make Omega Supreme angry or upset by reminding him, but it's even worse if he doesn't tender his appreciation for everything the great Autobot has done. Finally, Holi just bows deeply, head down so that he's looking at his own feet. "Thank you very much for all your help," he says with the utmost sincerity. "And please forgive me if I've caused you any trouble." He stays right where he is, both not willing to and not sure if he should so much as budge until Omega Supreme acknowledges him.

Holi came all the way here to... apologise to Omega Supreme for making him do his job?

What.

Omega Supreme is seriously having trouble even parsing Holi's apology. He is a living last line of defence. Protecting the weak is his function, his reason to be. (Maybe he had another reason to be, along ago.)

Gently, he replies, "Apology: unnecessary. Function: served." He adds, hesitantly, so Holi won't keep bowing. "Gratitude: accepted."

Why thank wheels for turning? It's what wheels do. Why thank Omega Supreme?

If Holi, a mere Micromaster and junior officer, can be thanked for fulfilling his function, then so can Omega Supreme. Silly perhaps, but it's that simple for the young captain. Or maybe Omega Supreme is just easily embarrassed over things like this?

"So," Holi murmurs as he stands straight, deciding that if this is embarrassing for Omega Supreme, he should tactfully change the subject. It doesn't mean his tone isn't still heavy with appreciation. "The doctor would like to know if there's anything he can do for you. If… ah…." Holi pauses to go back over the conversation with Perceptor. "If you need something he can make for you."

Omega Supreme is perplexed, not embarrassed. He does not understand.

Ah. The high energy density energon. But... there is a space ship to fuel, one more important than he is. Omega Supreme can deal with feeling hollow inside.

He's never really full, anyway.

Omega Supreme explains stiffly, awkwardly, "Importance: secondary. Concerns: extraneous. Spaceship: primary."

[Holi]

Holi really is trying not to get frustrated because it can't be Omega Supreme's fault that he thinks so little of himself. But it's frustrating all the same and Holi has only so much capability even now to process very many emotions simultaneously.

"Not even a little something?" he wonders in a pleading tone that has Tiny peering out from beneath a table, ears perked forward. Holi just thinks it isn't fair that Omega Supreme sits here by himself at the bottom of a lake with no fuel or repairs or company. Even the most mundane of spaceships gets fuel. Galaxy Shuttle certainly never lacked for maintenance. Perhaps Holi has skewed priorities.

Holi is like a Peter Pan fairy, unable to process too many emotions at the same time, because he's so small, and there's just no room? What an odd thought!

And not one that would occur to Omega Supreme, since he's never read Peter Pan, and he also can't read Holi's mind.

What does occur to Omega Supreme is that Holi is being rather insistent about seeing that Omega Supreme is properly fuelled, and it does occur to Omega Supreme that he cannot adequately protect the Autobots (and Maximals, too), if he is in less than fighting trim.

Well.

That settles it.

"Suggestion: acceptable."

[Holi]

Immature processors can only handle so much work. Holi quite literally still has growing up to do.

"Y… you mean it?" he wonders, expression going from consternated frown to hopeful half-smile as he looks up at the ceiling. There is a tiny selfish part of him that wants to help Omega Supreme to make up for not being strong enough in the battle, but much more imperative is the great Autobot's well-being.

Maybe next time, Holi will ask Long Haul to come along for something like this. Long Haul must be much better at convincing Omega Supreme.

[Omega Supreme]

"Affirmative," Omega Supreme rumbles. He does not cave easily, but now that he has caved, he isn't going to change his mind back willy nilly. Stubborn is stubborn.

[Holi]

"Thank you!" Holi burbles, grinning a grin that practically splits his face. The urge to jump up and cheer is strong, but he restrains himself because that would be a very immature thing to do. And it would probably startle Tiny, too, for that matter.

Holi settles for giving the nearest bulkhead a friendly pat, then sitting down beside it.

"I'll make sure to let the doctor know," he says. With important matters seen to, and because Holi likes offering Omega Supreme company, he can move on to the social bits. If Omega Supreme likes. His smile turns a little tentative again as he wonders, "Would you like to hear about what's been going on since the battle?" Anything that might not have already been passed along.

At least Holi seems to be happy. That is good, Omega Supreme thinks. The little Micromaster deserves to be happy and safe. As do all Autobots.

He ponders Holi's offer of a recap. Holi does not have better things to be doing? Well. If Holi took at the time to haul out here, Omega Supreme supposes...

He utters just one word.

"Please."
