"Arguments are the best kind of conversations," Mixmaster says and pulls the coal close to his chest, cooing at it and muttering something about 'Shockwave contamination.'
"And as for the coal, I believe that I am on a path that could possibly allow me to create some sort of fuel that won't have any of the little nasty side effects such as the gunking up our insides until we overheat and die a rather painful death." Which, while fun, was generally not entirely appreciated by the general public. "But that's not as important."
"Shockwave, if you're trying to instigate something along the lines of what I think you're trying to instigate, then I will have you know that 'fingers against the palm' is one of the oldest tricks in the book and your technique leaves much to be desired." Mixmaster pointedly ignored that his own fingers had twitched in response to the caress and just grinned at the big purple gun in the way of encouraging teachers.

Shockwave contamination? Shockwave flicks a head fin and shrugs slightly. Mixmaster is crazy, and there is little to be done about it. One simply tolerates the Constructicon's idiosyncrasies.
What Shockwave will not tolerate, however, is Mixmaster talking so freely about what Shockwave may or may not have been attempting to instigate. A point the gunformer decides to make in no uncertain terms.
"Mixmaster," Shockwave starts, as he steps in close and grabs the Constructicon's arm. He spins Mixmaster, wrenching that arm behind the mixer at a slightly uncomfortable angle. "You need to learn the meaning of discretion in your speech." His tone is slightly flatter than normal as he bends his head to murmur, "What happens once need not ever be repeated, and I will not have you making so free with my reputation, even in private. Do not mistake an occasional indulgence for promise of any sort."
He shifts his grip on Mixmaster's arm up to his wrist. "Now, you have an idea for refining the coal, you say? Please elucidate."

Mixmaster made no move to stop Shockwave from spinning him around, only tensing and clenching his jaw tightly at the angle his arm was placed in.
"Eh-heh! Who said it was a promise? I didn't say it was a promise." Mixmaster muttered back softly, tilting his head slightly in discomfort. "You're the one who's keeping this lovely conversation about your intentions going Shockwave, why, you're even giving examples now! I would have been perfectly happy to drop it right then, good deed of the day done you know."
Mixmaster shifted slightly, bracing for pain, and curved the fingers of his captive hand slightly in preperation for any sort of retaliation he could offer.
"Now, Shockwave, about the coal. To progress farther in my experiments I need to somehow replicate the kind of reaction you get when you put the human's C12H22O11 in a fuel tank...and then find a way to make that not happen!" This was all said in a happy sort of rush that could have been an attempt to get everything out at once before the slight chance of attempted homicide or it could only have been Mixmaster getting excited about discussing his new baby. It could also have been both.

Shockwave is content for the moment not to cause any true pain, though his grip at that delicate wrist does tighten slightly at Mixmaster's poking.
"Purifying the energy output should not be of any great difficulty. Almost every reality represented here has required an adaptation of some sort in order to either create energon or an energon-like substance from Terran fuel sources, or to actually utilize such fuels. Including your own, Mixmaster."
He abruptly releases and pushes Mixmaster away from him. "As such I do not expect this process to take overlong, even taking into account the little side project I have given you. We need a reliable fuel source that can also be portable. We will not be lingering much longer upon this planet." He tilts his head, "In theory, at least. Unless someone gives more of a problem than expected."

"I didn't say it was going to be difficult," Mixmaster scoffs, and tilts his head around awkwardly to peer at Shockwave over his shoulder. "Have more faith, Shockwave, yes?"
He grunts as he's shoved away (again), but quickly regains his balance, hopping a little to avoid stepping on the coal samples still on the floor. "Or maybe not, hn, you know Shockwave, typically when you come asking for someone's help, shoving that person around is not the best way to g-get it." And obviously the shoving is only because Shockwave's in a bad mood and Mixmaster's completely innocent in this situation and most definitely wasn't being antagonizing, he would be happy to tell anyone who happened to care enough to ask. Mixmaster turns around, hands planted on his hips, with a too-happy-for-his-and-everyone-else's-own-good smile. "Now, now, who exactly are you talking about 'giving problems'?"

"Ah, but then, you are used to such dichotomy, are you not Mixmaster? For there is as much violence between your gestalt as their is affection," Shockwave counters, almost purring. He is not in the best of moods, true, but calling his mood bad would not be apt. He has merely had a preponderance of annoyances lately and Mixmaster's constant needling is bothering more than it should.
He shrugs of Mixmaster's last question, "It is unimportant at the moment, and the point may well become moot later. Do not trouble yourself over it."
"Do you require anything specialized as far as tools or raw goods for either the refining or my other request?"

"It could be considered violence I suppose...but you're not gestalt Shockwave, are you? So it's less expected." Mixmaster laughs. He was playing with the coal again, paying it strict attention. "And I'm curious, what troubles were you considering?"
A curious Constructicon, Shockwave, be warned. Mixmaster eyes the purple gunformer consideringly now, but only for a brief moment before he goes back to fiddling with the coal. He honestly has very little clue as to what exactly he should be doing with it, what he'll need. Earth materials are still relatively new to him and most fuels he's converted were already out of this rock-stage...and he'd had all of his teammates available to help when they weren't. The lack is bothersome. Still, he knows he'll figure out something. He always does, and he's still making progress.
"Nothing you c-can help with in regards to the coal, though the consideration is appreciated and noted, Big Purple!" This could be good or bad. "As for your own...which jet is it exactly? They don't all take to chemicals quite the same, you know."

Shockwave as part of any gestalt would be a frightening thing.
He could help Mixmaster with the coal refining, of course. Shockwave has already been working on something of the sort, himself, albeit on a smaller scale. But if the stubborn Constructicon will not ask, well, then Shockwave will not offer. At least not until it becomes necessary.
In regards to the toxin he answers, "You are correct. Different systems respond in different ways. But that is one advantage of being a Decepticon scientist. One always has a bevy of assembly line subjects easy to hand."
"You will find that Thundercracker will suffice in all ways, I believe." Mixmaster is not stupid, just insane. Surely he can put two and two together at this point, but so long as Shockwave does not voice the fact, there is still plausible deniability.

Optics sharpen. Mixmaster eyes Shockwave with sudden interest and suspicion for a long moment, head tilted curiously to the side as though something had just occured to him. "And if something goes wrong~?" He starts, staring straight into Shockwave's optic. "You're not planning on blaming m-me Shockwave, are you?" Because it's a question he really feels he has to ask, seeing as this is, technically, a business encounter and Shockwave didn't actually say his only part in this was making the additive...But then Mixmaster giggles and holds out the half of the coal he was playing with toward Shockwave, offering it with a slight shake of his hand.
"It doesn't matter-matter, nevermind, your offered volunteer pleases me. I won't ask any more questions about our dear shrieking one, Shockers, I promise." It's not like he really needs to, after all.

Shockwave takes the offered sample carefully, wary of Mixmaster's sudden mood shifts. The gunformer had not missed that moment of sharpness and clarity which had so colored the Constucticon's face.
"Mmm, but nothing will go wrong, dear Mixmaster, as you will create this additive, its counteragent, and its antidote to the exact specifications which I have requested. And you will be ever so exacting in your tests, making sure every detail is perfection, from the chemical makeup to the victim's throes of pain."
Shockwave tries to step in close, leaning down to murmur into Mixmaster's audial. "You will do this because you are a Constructicon; to do less would be galling to your programming." A pause, "And also, because you will greatly enjoy his screams."
He straightens, and continues, "Just be sure to use one of the shielded rooms. No point in distressing passerbys audials."

"You say that like you think I'm a sadist!" Mixmaster exclaimes indignantly, though his optics brighten just slightly in pleasure at the thought, and how Shockwave had so worded it to leave so very much to the imagination.
The chemist's lips and hands twitch when Shockwave straightens, and he again shifts his overly bright optics to Shockwave's one. He says, idly, lowly, with far more subdued cheer: "However, Shockwave, there are ways around programming, you have to know, yes?"A smile threatens to split his face, and Mixmaster giggles. "So long as it's my goals being met, I would have nothing-nothing to be annoyed about, c-correct?" And, though he will follow through on Shockwave's request and do it better than anyone has ever done it before (in his humble opinion), Mixmaster wants it known that his goals can and will differ greatly from Shockwave's own, and he will choose his own over Shockwave's any day, with very few exceptions. It's a simple fact.
Mixmaster tilts his head curiously immediately after speaking, optics dimming back to their more natural light. "But, Shockers, for our dear Thundercracker, how functional does he need to be after, eh-heh, testing?"

He shrugs off Mixmaster's indgnation. "I do not think such to be true; I know it for fact."
"And trust me, Mixmaster, trust me. There is no one who knows as much about circumventing programming as I," Shockwave continues, "But in this case, I feel certain our mutual goals will coincide, and that we both will be satisfied in the long run."
At Mixmaster's last question, Shockwave tilts his head, seeming to seriously consider it. After a short pause, he answers, "Nothing permanently damaging or physically scarring, either internally or externally. If, perhaps, you can arrange for a bit of localized amnesia, that would be best. Torture disguised as experiment or endurance test was not uncommon in my time- under Megatron's regime at least. But I know not how accepting others here might be, and we do not have so many warriors that we can afford to merely throw one away."

"Trust him, he says!" Mixmaster says to himself. Out loud. And without bothering to lower his voice at all. "Do you trust me?" He asks, this time of Shockwave. "Or are you only pretending that you're going to accept that my creations are going to do their job and instead wander around being completely not-trusting and l-lie about it?" The Constructicon sounds vaguely accusing as he says this, but is watching Shockwave with bright interest the entire time, even as he shifts topics.
Mixmaster waves a hand, masking disappointment. "Of course, of course, it's relatively simple, though it will be a pity for poor Thundercracker that he can't properly appreciate all the help he's being."

Shockwave crosses back to the door, intending to leave sooner rather than later. Instead of leaving just yet however, he pauses, turning to lean against the wall.
"But I am trusting you, Mixmaster. I have more than a passing knowledge of the field, but I am no chemist. I can not properly examine whatever you give me as a finished product. If I had such knowledge, I would not need you to create it for me. So yes, I am trusting you."
"Which brings to mind...," Shockwave says, tucking his hand under his chin. He looks the picture of perfect innocence. "I still have some of that odd additive I removed from Needlenose, the one which froze his transformation cog and trapped him in robot mode. Remind me later, and I will see about giving you a sample. I am sure you would find it most interesting."
Later very obviously reads as When you have done as I have bid and I am satisfied with the results.

Warning! Warning! Incoming Constructicon!
Mixmaster froze at Shockwave's promise, optics brightening sharply in surprise, before what was being offered clicked in his processor. Then, slowly, a large smile spreads across his face, and his optics brighten even more, sudden excitement palpable.
And then he's leaping the space between Shockwave and himself with a delighted cackle, clanging and crashing against the gunformer and squeezing tightly any bit of him he can reach.
"I knew you were worth keeping!"
