Breakaway enters Emirate Xaaron's office, salutes briefly, and then drops it. They're underway, after all. He has no idea why he's wanted here. He figures he must have done something wrong. That's the usual reason he ends up in offices. His posture communicates defiance. Any of the assembled mechanisms would be hard-pressed to say how, exactly. He's not slouching or unkempt or anything, disrespect for the establishment is just sort of oozing from between the seams of his plating. His demeanor seems to say 'Go ahead and punish me, my behavior and I are far too cool to be modified by anything you can dish out.'
"You wanted me for something, sirs?" he asks, tone respectful.

Sentinel Prime might be out of the area long before Breakaway arrives. He might pass Breakaway in the hall. He might even be in the office when Breakaway arrives, on his way out.
If Breakaway sees him, though, Sentinel Prime definitely looks like his thoughts are elsewhere. Possibly sunning themselves on a beach, in denial, while the rest of him tries to chase those slacker thoughts down and get them to do some real work, such as figure out how the flipping slag he's going to manage this new set of duties.
OOC: Out of thread.

Emirate Xaaron is amused by how Sentinel and now Breakaway, bu his subtle posture, both seem to assume they've done something wrong. Maybe he should call Ultra Magnus in here when they're done with Breakaway, watch him squirm, and then tell him, 'Oh no, I just wanted to play a four-way full stasis game with you, Rodimus Prime, and Kup...'
Unlike with Sentinel, though, Emirate Xaaron has no reason to give Breakaway a particularly hard time, so he greets pleasantly with, "Good cycle, Breakaway," and he gets to business.
"We are oddly blessed with an abundance of fliers and spacers here. However, they still don't work particularly well together, as was evinced in that last battle."
Omega Supreme throwing himself at Lugnut, getting whomped, Jetfire throwing himself at Lugnut, getting whomped, and then Dai-Janku and Longcat taking out Lugnut was... suboptimal, as was Skyfire playing space support alone and getting knocked out by Fleetwind.
"They need more training and drilling together in as wide a variety of situations as we can manage. We'd like you to oversee that, Breakaway. It'll be more responsibilities in your cube, but this is something that needs to be done."
And who would do it if Breakaway doesn't?

Man, Rodimus sucks at Full Stasis.
The young Prime didn't make it all the way through the most recent battle - not far enough to know the details of the aerial combat, anyway. But he nods. "Autobot fliers are relatively rare in most individual realities. That seems pretty consistant. It's just that for whatever reason, we keep getting the one or two or few from their home realities here. So it's understandable that most of them aren't used to working in teams of fliers. Here, we've got enough for a team, but we can only take advantage of that if you guys can work as a team."

Okay, so apparently Breakaway hasn't done anything wrong, but he's getting extra duties anyway. If he wasn't so awesome at everything, the brass probably wouldn't want him to do more work. Unfortunately, being less awesome is something Breakaway simply isn't prepared to do.
"I don't suppose this is the sort of thing I can refuse?" he asks with a sigh.

"You could," Emirate Xaaron says evenly, "We could ask... one of the others instead, if you have anyone in mind whom you feel would do a better job."
If Breakaway feels he is going to do a crummy job, Emirate Xaaron won't force him to do it. Bad training can be worse than no training at all.

Rodimus snorts quietly as Breakaway asks if he can turn the job down, then smirks at Emirate Xaaron's response.
Appealing to his pride. Probably would have worked on Hot Rod, too.
He leans back in his seat and lifts his right hand casually as he speaks. "Yeah. I mean, if you don't think you're up to it..."
"...I'm sure we can find someone else," Kup adds, getting into the act as well.

If Emirate Xaaron thinks Breakaway is that easy to manipulate . . . then he is absolutely correct. If it ever got out that the big cheese wanted to officially acknowledge his Top Ace status and he turned down the offer, he'd never live it down. Hurtful things would be said. Breakaway is already never living down having been shot down by Duskwing, he can't afford to never live down anything else.
"Alright, I accept. Sirs. Are we talking just extra training or putting together a squadron?" A super-cool squadron with a cool name and a custom logo and they can all wear sunglasses indoors and walk toward the camera in slow motion and have their own theme music?

Breakaway takes the bait! Delightful. Emirate Xaaron is well pleased, and his good mood clearly shines through, He steeples his finger under his chin, and he replies, "Excellent. Now then. It's a bit of both. Yes, I want you run our fliers through extra training. Springer outranks you, but he'll be expected to attend and set a good example. He will at no point report to you, and he would not be considered part of any flier team, even if he rolled out with you on a mission." Breakaway has his work cut out for him. The Autobots have everything from fighter planes to rocket ships to pteranodons to helicopters. "But in situations where there is no clear chain of command and no officers available, you'll have the authority and duty to assume responsibility. It's something we're trying out - the only other one you need to worry about is Sentinel. If you both end up in the middle of a crisis together, I trust you two will have the discretion to work it out smoothly." Well, not really. It's Sentinel. Breakaway will stay classy, though, won't he? "If we add others, you'll know." Congratulations, Breakaway. You're a sergeant! Unfortunately, the only other one is a huge jerk. "Aside from training and crisis, you can and should also submit missions plans for your team and execute them. It can draw from other divisions. Just be sure the appropriate officers are notified and agree." He smirks. "After all, if you borrow Skyfire, and Botanica needed him for surveying right then, that wouldn't work so well, hrm?"

Rodimus grins as Breakaway accepts. "Congratulations, Breakaway. Good work." He sounds sincere. He might actually be sincere.
(He is, mostly, but h still suspects that Breakaway is less then enthused about his 'promotion,' and this can't help but amuse him.)
Kup just smiles faintly, and nods. From the sounds of things, Xaaron has things handled pretty well.

Breakaway doesn't really consider helicopters proper fliers unless they have unrealistic flight ceilings and top speeds. Pterodactyls at least look kind of like fixed-wing aircraft, but he doubts they can go supersonic. Losers.
He can handle being an NCO though. NCOs are still allowed to be One of The Guys, to some degree.
He nods. "Yes sirs, I understand. Is there anything else?"

Just wait until someone applies for Airazor, Breakaway.
Emirate Xaaron looks over at Rodimus Prime and Kup and says, "I think that is all, unless there are any questions?"

Rodimus shakes his head, then looks at Kup.
"Naw," Kup says.
"That about covers it, I think," Rodimus adds.
Neither Rodimus nor Kup really have much to say about methods of flier training.

Breakaway nods, standing in a rough approximation of 'at ease.' He'll leave once he's dismissed.

"Very well. Dismissed," Emirate Xaaron says, nodding his head pleasantly, "and good luck."
Jokes about board games aside, is there anyone else they need to see?
