Rodimus inclines his head in a slight nod, and he allows a very faint sigh to escape. "Yeah," he agrees sadly, then straightens.
"Well, anyway, I appreciate you taking this on, Optimus." He shakes his head. "It's not going to be a comfortable situation, but it has to be done. But let me know if there's anything I can do to make it go easier?"

"I will, s-Rodimus," he replies, nodding. "Thanks for taking the time to talk with me."

Rodimus grins and lifts his right hand, index finger pointed generally ceilingward, other fingers curled but not closed. "'Roddy' and 'Rod' would also work." Then he winks (yes, he has optic covers). "But I'll let you work up to that."
"Catch you later, Optimus," he adds as he turns away, heading back out of medical.
OOC: Out of thread.

Month 1, Week 3, Day 1
Time has passed. In the meantime, Sentinel Prime half-aftedly kind of apologised to Optimus while they fixed thruster bells.
He's also pulled together everything he can get his hands on about how the laws work here. Sentinel would have done that anyway. In the absence of a G1 Prowl, someone has to be by-the-book and obsessed with rules.
Now Optimus just needs to show up, and they can have a very special time in the lounge throwing rulebooks at each other.

Optimus shows up bearing a couple datapads and a stylus. He also has a container of energon goodies, because his player always has a bag of gummi bears when he studies for exams and he'll be damned if he doesn't let Optimus have the same privilege. Also, Optimus knows how much Sentinel Prime loves energony goodness.
"Hi Sentinel. Thanks for agreeing to help me with this."

Optimus becoming quite the domestic, baking up a storm with those energon goodies!
But yeah, Sentinel Prime is pretty easy to bribe, sometimes. His optics definitely light up covetously at the jar that Optimus is holding, and he scoots over on the sofa where he's sitting, shuffling some of his stack of... stuff onto his lap to make more room.
Sentinel Prime folds his hands on top of his stack of assorted legalese and assures, "Like I said, the pleasure is all mine!"

Energon goodies are delicious, and you can never have too many delicious things! Besides, Sentinel Prime would probably like cooking if he tried it. If you follow the rules and procedures exactly you end up with delicious food. But even a slight deviation can result in undelicious not-food.
Optimus was going to pull up a chair and sit across from Sentinel, but since the other 'bot scooted over on the sofa, he sits down next to him. It would be hilarious and wrong if this was the same room/sofa where he had his date with Elita-1. The red Prime does, however, pull up a low table, which Firebolt, being from RiD, would probably call a coffee table, and sets down the stuff he brought, including the goodie jar, on that.
"Let's get started, then."

Baking? There are a lot of things that Sentinel Prime might enjoy that he's generally too stubborn to try because of weird hang-ups. Case in point: apologising to Optimus and actually having a friend again. That was how hard for him? And he still half-afted it, anyway.
If Elita-1 walks in on them, Sentinel Prime will just go ahead and stab himself in the foot, because that will be less painful than what else might ensue.
Sentinel Prime starts explaining, hands spread, "Here's the thing. Some our laws are contradictory, because they've been haphazardly thrown together from a bunch of different realities." Sentinel Prime disapproves strongly. "So whenever there's a contradiction, you go with the most recent update. So if there was a law that said, 'You cannot have pets in quarters,' and a law that said, 'Pets may be kept in quarters with the approval of Logistics,' you'd have to check the dates on those and see which one was still valid."
When Sentinel Prime later acquires a bonsai tree, it will be quite legal, as the case turns out.

"Isn't Logistics just Long Haul, though?" Optimus asks, puzzled. "Nevermind. So whichever thing is on the books most recently is the one I have to go by," he reiterates, jotting down a note on a datapad.
Houseplants are not the same thing as pets.

When one is afraid of cats, houseplants definitely count as pets.
Sentinel Prime goes on to add, "But these aren't organised in order of most recent. The sections are in order by length, so the shortest section is first, and the longest section is last."
There are real legal codes like this, which is the sad part.
"So it takes some doing to figure out what was written when. Here, I made this annotated copy with that has the timestamps for everything."
This what Sentinel Prime does when he can't settle down to defragment. He curls up with laws and put things in order. He tries to hand a datastick off to Optimus.

Optimus gratefully accepts the datastick and plugs it into a pad. "Sentinel, you're a lifesaver." This is just like back in the Academy when they used to trade homework around, with everyone taking whatever subject they were best at. Optimus would only do it under protest of course, but he'd end up doing it anyway.
He scrolls through the text until he comes to the section on trial law, pointing at a passage. "I don't quite get the wording here."
OOC: Montage it out?

Sentinel Prime notes slyly, "You just violated security rules. That's an unmarked generic datastick. Only Autobot military datasticks, with built-in security functions are allowed to be used with Autobot datapads. But don't worry. I won't report you on it. I'm just making a point."
The point that he's a huge jerk? Optimus has probably already figured that out.
He looks over at the wording and starts to explains, "Oooh, yeah, that's tricky, because it functions differently depending on whether you're in a gravity well or not..."
Some time later...
"...anyway, that's why it is technically illegal to force the witnesses to shower. Make sense?" Sentinel Prime asks, looking like this makes all the sense in the world to him.

"But all our datapads are Autobot datapads, aren't they?"
The montage probably consists of Optimus and Sentinel in various places and poses around the room, as the jar of energon goodies gets progressively more empty to show the passage of time.
"Because it would violate their right to privacy, right?" Optimus asks, shifting through the pile of datapads (that seem to have somehow multiplied on their own) to find the one with the relevant information on it.

"No, violating their privacy falls under a different section. This is actually a medical and/or religious issue," Sentinel Prime corrects, pointing out a different datapad.
Religion is a weird thing for him. Animated is a rather secular reality so Sentinel Prime is very secular, when in another reality, he'd probably be thumping the Covenant of Primus and telling people to fear their creator and generally being a nuisance.
Some time later, Sentinel Prime explains how the judge has the right to use his gavel in combat, should a fight break out in the courtroom.

"If someone needs a shower so badly that turning down my olfactory sensors doesn't help, it's a medical issue for everyone in the room," Optimus deadpans, rummaging for an energon goody.
The red Prime has never been particularly religious, though he does believe in the Well of All Sparks.
Optimus wants to know if he's allowed to use his axe if it comes to that. It has a longer reach.
