"We live a very long time," Hook says softly, "but few things are eternal. You won't love Crystal CIty forever. One day, it'll be an eyesore to you, too."
"But... some things are eternal."
Hook looks at Long Haul meaningfully.

At some point in time, Hook may come to regret implying a confirmation of the Crystal City incident while in the Autobot brig, though that's hardly Long Haul's plan. Long Haul just keeps circling back to that issue because for him, it's the ultimate proof that he's right.
Long Haul shakes his head. "No. I'm not gonna just suddenly change. Only reason I did in your past was 'cos that change was forced on me, and it ain't gonna happen here. You can just get used to it. And if all we're gonna do is go back and forth with this same stuff, I've gotta go."

Hook might, if he wasn't planning on just MacGuyvering his way out when they least expect it.
"No, don't go!" Hook insists imperiously. He scrambles for a topic, and he ends up asking, "What are you building, these days?"
Oops, Long Haul can't tell him that.

Long Haul looks around, then meanders over to the seat next to the brig's control console and settles down. He shrugs. "Seems these days I'm doin' more fixin' than building," he admits, even though he probably shouldn't. He stomps a foot against the deck. "Did a lot of the building for this thing, though. Didn't design it, of course, never was the blueprints mechanoid." He considers. "Converted the garage to a base back on Gillanan but you folks took care of that real good," he adds a bit sadly. The garage hadn't been art, not like Crystal City. Long Haul can't do that on his own. The beauty doesn't live in his mind the way it does in Scrapper's. But still, it was good work for what he'd been working with, and it was sad to see it fall.
Long Haul is used to building with the intention that what he creates should stand for all time. Getting used to building to be destroyed is painful.

Hook suddenly realises that whenever he attacks something the Autobots have built here, he's probably breaking something Long Haul built. Hook feels... odd about that. Not guilty, not bad, not wrong, but odd.
Hook informs Long Haul, "If you were on my side, we wouldn't have had to have broken it. Do you have a... team here?"
Hook doesn't. Mixmaster is... away, and just two is not a team. He had troops under him, but they weren't his, not like Long Haul is his.

"If I was on your side, I'd be gettin' something else broken," Long Haul grumbles. Then he considers Hook's question. He shakes his head. "Not... not really. I mean, I like the guys all right. I work with 'em pretty good. And, I mean... I got the designer," Mayday, "the exactin' sort," Perceptor, "the brawler," Swerve, "and others. But I'm not so sure I'd call them my 'team'. Not... not like we were."
He tilts his head. "Most of 'em need lookin' after, though. Not a lot of sense in the lot of 'em."

Hook feels the hissing, boiling, ugly bile of jealousy rising in him when Long Haul mentions that he has an exacting sort here. He seethes, "You don't need an exacting sort. Give him up. You have me. I'm better."
Long Haul can replace Scrapper and Bonecrusher - that leaves a bad taste in Hook's mouth, but Long Haul can do that, as long as Long Haul never replaces him.

Long Haul finds himself glad he didn't name names. But then, he doesn't fully understand just how often 'love' and 'ownership' are parralled amont Decepticons.
His optics flicker at Hook's anger, and he lifts his hands in a calming gesture. "You are!" he agrees, but then his optics dim and he slumps. "But I don't got you."

Possession and protection twine around each other like twin snakes around a caduceus.
Hook swells with deserved pride when Long Haul decrees him better than this nameless exacting other - Hook must discover his name somehow and have his revenge - and then he glares when Long Haul says he doesn't have Hook. He points out, "You have me right here. You could do whatever you wanted to me. The guard would look the other way, I'm sure."

Long Haul shakes his head. He always was one of the more lawfully-aligned of their team (of course, for that matter, so was Hook).
"Naw, I can't." Especially since what he really wants to do is get the 'old Hook' back.

Hook is Lawful Evil, possibly Neutral Evil. He scowls and corrects, "You won't. You could. Why won't you?"
So that is what they've come to. Bickering even more pointless than their usual bickering. All because of that ugly blue optic band and that grotesque red symbol.

"I can't 'cos I ain't what you are!" Long Haul argues, annoyed. "If I just let you out, you're just gonna go and try and hurt someone, or reprogram me, or both at the same time. And I don't want you hurt, so that rules out..." You know. The death traps.
"So 'anything I want' ends up adding up to a whole lot of nothing."

Hook suggests slyly, "We could build something, you know. If you let me out."
Surely, this bait is foolproof. Who could resist a chance to build something with Hook?

"Yeah, we could," Long Haul agrees. "If I did that. But I'd have to talk to Kup first in order to do that."
He shakes his head. "I ain't breaking the rules, Hook."

Hook pouts mightily, lower lip quivering. Long Haul always was Lawful. He suggests brightly, "You could come in here, instead, and build something with me?"
How dangerous could Hook be in a cell with Long Haul and some unspecified building work?
