Optimus can get fetched later! He sounds okay, for now. Right now, he's got an arm full of pain on one side, and an arm full of Jetfire on the other. He continues to push away, trying to maneuver so that if the chain loses grip sometime soon, it won't be -too- painful.
//Do be keeping calm, brother!// He does appreciate Jetfire's concern, but this is no time to kick into overdrive!

The freaky little girl hisses over a general radio band as the flame that burns even in absolute zero turns one of her chains into useless dross. Jetstorm is thereby set free. She flings a set of spikes at Jetstorm, launching off the spaceship to harry them - and right into Skyfire's shot. She jerks, howls, and dies.
But there's a half-dozen more after Skyfire, two more trying to lawn dart him, three who try to get in close enough to transform and attack him with various implements - a rusty rotary saw, a a long pair of skinning knives, and a set of claws, and one who peels off and tries to shoot Jetfire with a harpoon gun.
With more waiting in the wings, like gargoyles taking wing, the void is about to become quite crowded soon.

//I- um... kick badness-bot butt and go rescuing Optimus Prime?// Why did Sentinel have to put him in charge? He's a follower, not a leader!
But hah! His brother is free now and- and quite suddenly their foe is dead. Jetfire flinches slightly, but there's plenty more where she came from. Transforming into jet-mode, he dodges out of the way of the harpoon shot in his direction.
//I am enough of the calm, brother!// See? He hasn't even caught on fire! //Perhaps we should double up...// And blow them away?

The lawn darts are the biggest danger--they can wreck him entire. Skyfire pirouettes again, using his superior speed to maneuver away from them, twisting and turning. He tosses missiles into their paths as best he can--
Crunch! One of the others collides with and latches on to a vertical stablizer and starts carving chunks off with that rotary saw.
// Getting a little crowded out here, // Skyfire says as he starts to rotate, slow at first, then faster and faster, trying to throw off Little Miss Sawyer. // Time to pull out your biggest guns and best firepower, guys! //

//You are having good ideas, both of you!// And so, the combination happens.
Hmm. They have a moment to think - Skyfire is fast, and doesn't appear to require immediate help just -yet-. Safeguard's hands thrust forward, at the ship, and he unleashes a twisting cyclone of flame, then drags it across the hull to blast those who are waiting. Better to take them out before they get swarmed, right?

Fear not, Team Outsiders, the cavalry has arrived! 'Cavalry' in this case meaning the Event Horizon's weapon-systems, which have begun locking on to the Autobots' attackers. Whenever the likelihood of accidentally hitting one of the Autobots drops to an acceptably low probability, shots are taken.
OOC: Skippable! SceneMod, feel free to pose as many shots taken, misses, and hits as you deem most interesting.

It is a shame that Skyfire was pulled from before the Insecticons munched on him; this is probably a lot like that. Sawyer binds in deep like a tick, trying to dig her skeletal clawed feet into him, so she can try to carve Skyfire's wing like a Thanksgiving turkey.
Safeguard takes out at least three of the ones on the hull, and perhaps four more are seriously injured. One falls on the other, tearing out the injured Reaver's power cells and feasting upon them. However, Safeguard is not also the biggest target. Another hungry bevy launches itself at him - and the rain comes, in the form of an assist from the Event Horizon.
Just one Reaver so far makes it through the Event Horizon's shots to try harry Safeguard.

Twisting and turning isn't throwing Miss Sawyer off; she's getting dug into a particularly awkward location. None of his weapons can reach his own vertical stabilizers--in shuttle form. Skyfire transforms, which puts Miss Sawyer on the back of his leg--and his gun in hand. He cooly swings the long barrel down and blasts the Lithone Reaver off, like a mini-blowtorch applied to a tick. Painful, but he's getting used to having holes shot in him every time they fight.
It's just not usually his own fire that does it.

Safeguard almost manages a confident grin, feeling much better after the effectiveness of his attack, but then the Reavers have to go and eat their wounded and that's just terribly, terribly wrong. With a disgusted cry, he lurches forward to meet the approaching Reaver with a massive fist wreathed in flame and twisting wind. It's not just a punch, it's a punch straight to the face of physics!

As soon as Skyfire transforms, there's another lawndart after him, while he's in his slower mode. These Reavers sure do like ramming, don't they? Ramming and spikes and spike-shot and chains and the taste of warm metal...
The one approaching Reaver, looking like a victim of a crazed acupuncturist, is hit by Safeguard's punch of fire and wind and explodes into a billion tiny, razor-sharp shards that spread out in every direction - and cause excruciating pain whenever they lodge in armour, much like slivers. They don't do much damage, but the agony that they can inflict is almost maddening.
The Event Horizon clears out a few more Reavers, in the background.

Skyfire is already wounded, and just as he's re-transforming to fly around the lawndarts, his opponent explodes. The slivers pierce his joints, his various wounds, and lodge all through his thin, thin outer skin.
Skyfire screams in agony. // I'm hit, I'm hit! // He fires his engines at full thrust, finally panicking, trying to get away--
The transform is incomplete. Neither his wings nor his engines are fully in place and aligned, and he spirals erratically. Fear and pain override his iron control at last, and he calls out instinctively: // STARSCREAM! HELP ME! //

For a moment after the Reaver explodes Safeguard remains in stunned silence, feeling nothing, though it's not the fate of his foe that shocked him. Then he suffers from a million little pinpricks all across his body and his mouth opens up to let out an eerie double wail. The agony may be almost maddening, but it's the news from the radio settling in that pushes over the edge.
The wind and fire around his body flares violently, building and twisting into a churning firestorm. His armor blackens, colored only by a glowing tracery around the panels of his body, orange on Jetfire's half and blue on Jetstorm's. Surrounded by a fiery gale, Safeguard gives another howl before launching himself at the nearest Reaver with almost as much mad fervor as the twisted Lithones have been directing at them.
Because Sentinel Prime is dead and everything is wrong.

The surviving Reavers pause when Safeguard darkens, something like horror creeping over their features. They make no attempt at all to assist the hapless Reaver that Safeguard has just utterly immolated. They flit back to the hull, scrambling for ingress hatches.
They have never seen anything like Safeguard before, and yet, they have seen this. It's how it starts, sometimes. The grief gets to be too much, and there's nothing for it but killing and killing and more killing.
And then a new Reaver is born.
Even mad as they are, they don't want to be there for this baby shower.
So poor Skyfire is lucky; he goes unharassed for now, even if there is no Starscream to answer and comfort him.

Starscream does not comfort anyone; the need, the purpose for Starscream is to kill their enemies. When Skyfire was hurt beyond his own ability to fight, he had Starscream for back-up--an stone-cold, silver, blue and red killer who was very good at it. He needs that killer at his back now. He doesn't have him.
No one is attacking Skyfire just yet, and far too many alarms are blinking red at him. Emergency. He's on his own, and his mind snaps into the well-worn groves.
Look. Transform half-jammed, engines firing asymmetrically, uncontrolled flight path. Safeguard berserking. Pain tearing at him from every joint and puncture.
Think. First, get flight under control.
Act. Skyfire shuts down one engine, and fires the other in timed burns to get his spiral under control. Second, transform properly--
Skyfire screams silently in the vacuum of space as the little razors stab into him. He freezes, afraid to move anything for long moments. The shards will have to be pulled out of his joints first.
Third, get help with the razor shards.
// Safeguard! // Skyfire calls on his radio. // SAFEGUARD! EMERGENCY! HELP! //
The kids are Autobots, young, and have always been eager to help. Sentinel Prime trained them, and he trains people hard--Skyfire wagers that they had lifesaving and rescue training. Skyfire desperately hopes that an emergency call from another Autobot will break through the berserkergang, kicking that deep training to the fore.

Safeguard is ready to tear after the fleeing Reavers, sending a twisting coil of wind laced with flame ahead of him to chase them down. He's brought up short by Skyfire's call for help, hesitating, and turns to look back at the half-transformed shuttled. The movement is agonizing. Every movement is agonizing, with a million shards of metal tracing constellations of pain across his armor. Even when he's still they make for a maddening burning itching. His transformation rid him of some of them, metal splinters swept away in Jetstorm's tornado currents or melted in Jetfire's heat, but others have merely worked their way deeper or broken off at the surface.
//It... it HURTS!// he shrieks in reply, struggling to keep a grip on his sanity in the face of excruciating pain, both physical and mental.
Safeguard hasn't had much rescue training, really. He's a weapon, really, and most of Jetfire and Jetstorm's Elite Guard training was about making them a more dangerous weapon. A dangerous weapon that could have gone terribly wrong and need to be destroyed. Though they'd never have known that last part if it weren't for Sentinel Prime...
With a pained cry, Safeguard turns away from the Reavers and rockets towards Skyfire, his firestorm dissipating for the moment, though he remains blackened. Sentinel Prime is dead, and he wants justice, or maybe vengeance, or maybe just closure, or maybe he doesn't know what he wants. But regardless of what he wants, he's still a good Autobot, an Elite Guardsman, regardless of any Decepticon code in his programming, and a good Autobot doesn't leave his teammates in danger.
He wasn't there to save Sentinel, but he's here for Skyfire.
