Month 1, Week 3, Day 3, outside of Shockwave's laboratory, after "Long Live The King", semi-private
Scourge needs access to Shockwave's data if he is to be a good commander, so he has called upon the foremost software and hardware experts that they have to assist him in this grisly duty.
He stands with his hand on the door to Shockwave's laboratory, where they ought to start first. Then his offices, then his quarters, then... well, Shockwave was a wily one. There will likely be data hidden elsewhere that even they cannot find. For once, Scourge's background as something of a saboteur may be useful, however.
For one thing, if Frenzy and Needlenose can't even get the freaking door open, Scourge can handle that.
Now to wait for them.

Needlenose strolls confidently into the area, though he's still wary. Scourge's plan was... well. Ambitious enough to make Needlenose wary. Of course, anyone who isn't wary around a powerful Decepticon is a fool, and Needlenose, for all his glibness, has already witnessed first hand just how far downhill things can go when a Decepticon leader goes off his nuts and bolts. But so far there hasn't really been any indication that he needs any more than the usual, sensible levels of waryness.
"Yeah? Whatcha got for me, Lord Scourge?" he asks as he strolls up. Some Decepticon leaders tolerate being called 'boss,' but Needlenose will wait a bit longer before trying that.

Unlike Needlenose, Frenzy doesn't stroll down the corridor to the appointed meeting. He scuttles through the ducts and pops out of the ceiling to hang down between the two, chittering almost cheerfully. He never strolls on the floor if he can help it. Too easy to get "accidentally" stepped on, that way.
Out of deference to Scourge's new rank, though, Frenzy forgoes his usual habit of swinging himself over to the big truck-former's shoulder, and merely hangs in place from the ceiling, waiting for further instructions.

Scourge looks over at Needlenose and then up at Frenzy. Then he flourishes a hand at the door and explains, "Shockwave wasn't expecting to vanish. If I am to carry on as leader of the Decepticons, I need to know what he did. There may be plans he has set in motion that we could yet reap or secret intelligence," hi there, Frenzy, "on our enemies of which I could make use."
"Thus, I need you two to crack his computers for me. I know that you will tell Spinister," a look at Needlenose, "and you will tell Barricade," a look up at Frenzy, "what you find after making them jump through suitably amusing hoops."
That is simple inevitability.
"But do keep in mind how worthless a secret become after it is no long secret. Or, rather, how worthless the secret-keeper becomes."
Is that a threat? Only a mild one. A warning.

Needlenose snorts with amusement and leans against the bulkhead, his antennae tilted back slightly. "Oh, I wouldn't worry, Lord Scourge. Knowing the value of fame also means knowing the value of discretion." He looks towards the door, then up at Frenzy.
"Think maybe you'll want to take a crack at it first? You might be able to break in with code. I'd have to just break, and while I could fix it later, the more we leave in-tact from the start, the better."

Frenzy makes a rude sound; he doesn't share everything with Barricade. Most stuff, sure, but not everything. Like, he'll probably tell 'Cade that he cracked Shockwave's systems (because as far as Frenzy is concerned, that's a foregone conclusion), but not necessarily what they find.
He does, however, manage to curb his habit of cursing, contenting himself with just the rude noise as he nods and scales down the wall to peer at the access panel. Scourge is the new Big Boss, now, after all.
And because Needlenose made the observation about not wanting to break-break, Frenzy even declines to use his primary data spikes, and merely pries up a corner of the access panel it slide in a thinner hacking tap. The noises he makes now are even more unholy.
Black Ice. Expected. Black Ice with razor claws. Kinky! Frenzy has claws of his own, though, and this is just a door. Even if it had been Shockwave's door, it's still just a door. The big challenge will be inside, beyond the now opening door.
"Ta-dah!"

Scourge steps into the laboratory, apparently without fear or concern for his own safety. If there's an instantly fatal trap, well, Scourge won't have to worry about anything anymore.
If it's not instantly fatal, he'll make Frenzy wish it was.
But the fact is, Frenzy did disable the traps.
The ones related to the door.
There's more.
There's a shot in the dark.
And then Scourge's sword is in his hand (he has a new one made after Ultra Magnus took his old one), and he deflects that very familiar energy blast back into the darkness. His optics glow brighter. What's this?
OOC: Please wait on a mysterious spooky post from beyond the grave.

A familiar energy blast- and a familiar yellow glow from a single optic from deep in the cold dark.
"You took longer than expected, Scourge."
The lights begin to slowly come up in the lab, revealing an intimidating- and supposedly lost- figure.
"And you," Shockwave's head tilts slightly, "Should watch your language." The burst of feedback which runs through Frenzy's head at that moment makes it clear of whom he was speaking.
"Your change in status does not give you carte blanche to pilfer my records, Scourge."
OOC: giving Frenzy a headache ok'd w/ his player.

Needlenose probably should have gone in first, as he's 'more expendable' than Scourge, but he's not going to complain that Scourge has rushed in where Mayhems fear to tread before he could point this fact out. He does follow the tanker quickly, Zigzag and Sunbeam both in hand. His optics widen and he raises his weapons, perhaps unwisely, towards the figure.
"What th- How'd you get back? Why didn't you say anything?!"

Frenzy squeals a string of vile language in three different programming languages as he clutches at his head and falls from his perch on the wall by the door, his hacking spike slipping loose as the feedback slams through his head. It hurts! It really fragging hurts! But it's all empty pain. Just noise, and no damage.
No echo.
No echo, just like the figure before them. No, an echo in the machine, but no echo in the room. Frenzy chatters excitedly as he slams his main dataspike right through the wall, heedless of Shockwave, and starts knifing his way back into the system.
Tricky tricky. Doesn't work anymore. Have to try something else. "Clever slagger," he giggles, diving through the system with fresh shards of Black Ice hot on his trail.
"Not him! Nothimnothimnothim!" Just an echo. Just a figure, all light, no substance, but, oh, clever. "Careful careful. Nasty system."
He's giggling as he carves his way through the layers of security that seem to twist and mutate and learn as he goes.

"This is illogical. What are you?" Scourge asks the Shockwave, voice steady. He does not lower his guard nor his sword.
Shockwave would not hide out in his room while Scourge appropriates his title. That is nonsense.
Frenzy, in his weird little way, gives Scourge some support. Not him. His question remains appropriate.

Frenzy has Black Ice trailing him, but he's about to have something nastier slam into him and attempt to give him a little virus rider, if the hacker doesn't move quick enough. If Frenzy pauses long enough to get a good look at that rider, he'll notice it isn't an overtly malignant one. Curious, perhaps, given the aggressiveness of the initial defenses.
"I never left," Shockwave replies to Needlenose, "I have always been here."
His gaze fixes on Scourge, "I am Shockwave. Yet I am not."
"And you are all being extremely rude."

Needlenose's antennae and wings slump and he sighs. "Ah, good, I was just thinking it's been way too long since the last time I played a game of riddles." Then he straightens and shakes his head. His weapons are still out as he tilts his head away from the Shockwave and eyes him warily. His weapons are still drawn.
"We're going to have to continue being rude until we get an explanation," he declares. "I don't- can't recognize the authority of an 'am but am not' echo, and with a status like that, you count as a definite potential threat to our good order and operation, hmmm?"

Rude? RUDE? Frenzy will give this bootleg RUDE! He's not even the REAL Shockwave, and so totally deserves that finger Frenzy just flipped up at him with his free hand.
Except he needs that hand, like, yesterday, and jams that spike into the wall as well, cursing a bluestreak - the phrase, not the mech - as he tries to dodge that Big Nasty about to--
He lets loose an electronic wail as he is latched onto with the force of a sledgehammer. By contrast, the little tendril of virus that slips into his code like a tiny silver fish, is... nothing. It's barely a flicker on his sensornet, but there, all the same.
"Ship's AI," he hisses as his optics flicker. Big Nasty hurt; time to hurt Big Nasty right back! Virtual claws slice toward the Jammer, only to flick through empty code as the Jammer... dissolves. Numbers and light and motes of nothing, and behind that, another wave of Black Ice.
The AI learns. Fast.
"Gotta share, slagger! Not him! Not the BOSS!"

"This not rudeness," Scourge states. "It is our way to go where we are unwanted and take what we need for the needs of our people. I lead these Decepticons, and I will have Shockwave's work, to better our cause."
He shoots a sidelong look at Needlenose. Puzzles are one of Shockwave's less endearing traits.
Then Frenzy tells them what this is. The ship's AI? "Are you even a Transformer?"
