Let's just say that Kate wasn't particularly shocked when she learned that the Captain is distantly related to a certain Astoria Carlton-Ritz.
She leans back, taking another sip from her coffee, and starts over the basics. Which bars are the most dangerous, which are the best for information (sometimes the same places), what parts of town you find the most trouble in, both of a normal variety and of the meta-sorts. "There's also a floating meta-fight ring that we keep breaking up. Often sets up in old warehouses or some of the closed car plants. Oh, and you gotta keep an eye on some of the tech companies we got around here. G.B.'s not bad about co-operating with us, and from what I can gather, a lotta the secrets he does keep are because of his military contract work." She snorts and waves a hand over her head. "Above our clearance level, if you will. He keeps a gang of metas on the payroll, though, which is usually a good reason to be careful by itself. Biotech Unbound, though, they're a lot shadier. Rumor has it they're practically a meta factory, but getting intel on them's pretty tricky. They play their cards close to the chest."

"Better." Petunia listens intently as Sgt. Mason describes the Detroit beat, sometimes interrupting to get the geography down. "Biotech Unbound... Didn't they get the jungle last week?"
She drinks more of her coffee. "Any local supers we should be keeping an eye out for?"

"There's been something of a rise in meta activity," Hollister says in a deliberately casual fashion – not to imply it's no big deal, because metas are always a big deal – but simply because he has to mind his details. He doesn't give a specific starting point to it either, just in case. "A bunch of petty crimes, mostly," he adds, recalling the one guy who could 'talk' to computers. The money he stole from a dozen or so ATMs actually amounted to grand larceny and then some, but he was still a small-time crook.
He adds a couple of pawn shops to the information list; he got drafted for a drug raid or two with his other partner, and found a couple of very useful shop owners in the process. It isn't until after he mentions them that he remembers one is useful because Hollister can hear what he doesn't say. Of course, he's also a really bad liar, that fellow. He'd probably talk for Kate or Detective Hunt.

Esprit totally has Bad Cop duties covered, but she suspects that Petunia may be a Dadaist Cop. This may be interesting.
She listens to everything that Sgt. Mason and Det. Hollister say very closely. Indeed, Esprit does not pay Det. Hollister any less attention. So he's young. So what? A Decepticon right out of the factory can still kill a bot.
Deliberately, Esprit asks, "What about the white hats? Do they play ball, or do we have to clean up their messes, too?"

Kate shrugs one shoulder. "A bit of both, but mostly they're not so bad. Detroit's mask laws are pretty liberal, and they know that if they get too out of hand, that'll change, so mostly they work with us. 'Sides, there aren't that many."
She nods towards Petunia. "Yeah, Biotech Unbound got the jungle. As for who the named capes are... Wraith, Metatron, and Gertrude's been around for awhile," Yes, Gertrude, "and recently we've been hearing about a guy named 'Crimson Cavalier.' Known lawbreakers are the Mechanic, Angry Archer and recently, Mordred. Lord Slaughter shows up every now and again, but he's a bit above our level. Mostly, we run damage control as best we can on him and call in the Feds." She scowls at that, not caring for having to ask for help.
"There're a few others, but most haven't done much to draw attention to themselves. Y'know, street levels."

Bad Cop, Dadaist Cop would break more than a few people. Sadly, some of those people might be Petunia and Det. Hunt's co-workers.
"Gertrude?" Petunia blinks. "Well, whatever boats her float." She's assuming Gertrude is a her, anyway. "Street levels always make things 'fun'. Never know what you're going to walk into. Moreso than usual, I mean."
She finishes her coffee. "Any other metas on the squad, Sergeant?"

Well, since Kate's being asked, Hollister excuses himself to fetch a refill on his milk tea.

Esprit would have also accepted answers from Det. Hollister. Demure, isn't he?
"We don't have a Gertrude signal, do we?"
They don't have a secretary from a temp worker agency who goes up to the roof to turn on the Gertrude signal, do they?

Kate shakes her head. "None registered, and if they ain't registered, they ain't legals."
She looks at Esprit out of the corner eye, just catching sight of her.
"No," she proclaims, deadpan.
"No. We do not have a Gertrude signal."

"Do we have any signals?" Petunia finishes off her coffee and eyes the pastry case.

"No," Hollister says with a grin as he returns, tea in one hand and a small plate full of little snacks in the other. "No signals. Here," he adds, setting down the plate, "I got us some of these mini-scones they have. I wasn't sure what you two like, so I just got a couple of everything." They're bite-size things, really, and range from plain vanilla to raspberry, blueberry, apple cinnamon, and even chocolate. He goes right for the chocolate.

"You are too kind," Esprit says to Det. Hollister, but she snags that cinnamon apple scone. He has already had one, so they probably aren't poisoned.
Anyway, the signals thing was a valid question!

"Thanks," Kate says, reaching for one of the scones. And then her cell bleeps, a 'work ring'. She scowls, lifts it to the side of her head, and snaps, "Sergeant Mason speaking. Talk." Then her expression turns serious and she frowns. "Uh-huh. Yeah, we'll be right over." With a tap, the phone's off again, and she nods towards Hollister. "Got a call, Stuart. Time to roll out." She grabs up one of the scones, then nods to the other two. "Nice talking to you, lasses. Hope that info helps some." With that, she turns and quickly strides out the door.
OOC: Out of thread.

"Thanks!" Petunia is a happy little mooch. She snags one of the scones and munches. Then Sergeant Mason gets her call and heads off into the sunset with Det. Hollister. "Thank you again, sergeant, detective."
When they're gone, she turns to Det. Hunt. "Want to look around some of those places the sergeant mentioned?"
OOC: wrap?

Hollister sputters, both at the call and at the unexpected use of his first name. He just got a refill!
"Sorry," he says to Hunt and Dahlia with a grimace before gulping his tea as quickly as he can. He pays for it with a lightly scalded tongue and seizes a vanilla scone, stuffing it in his mouth to try and palliate the sting before he hustles after Kate. His jacket flaps wildly from one arm as he pulls it on while he walks.
OOC: Gone in dorky fashion.
