Terrence's bloodshot eyes widen in surprise when Victoria speaks up again. She's practically shouting what (and possibly who) she is for anyone to hear. That's unwise of her, he thinks, though it makes her far, far more interesting.
He puts a hand into his pants pocket, fingering a plastic zipper bag full of syringes. All capped, of course. One wouldn't want to accidentally stab oneself. He carefully opens the bag and pulls out a specific syringe by feel, leaving it in his pocket. He hopes he estimated Victoria's weight correctly. Overdosing her would be terribly wasteful.

Nodding in acknowledgement of Victoria's question - and what interesting questions this woman has - Clio answers, "My purpose in writing my novels is simply to portray, as best I can, the... how should I say... the essence of life in a particular species, in the form of a gripping narrative.
"While I intend to cover the more radical sects of Femaxian culture in my next book, the outliers from their cultural norm, which does include those who would strive for equality of the sexes, it is not my place to re-imagine their society to better fit human morality.
"The Observer merely watches and compares, she does not judge, and I simply record her observations, with only as much change to reality as is necessary to create an interesting story."
Calliope, meanwhile, is busy shooting sideways glances at Terrence, nose slowly wrinkling in disgust as he fumbles around in his pocket while watching a lady in the crowd. Is he some kind of pervert?

The vast majority of the time, when Summer is close to Hunter, she's just Sunstreaker in a smaller and differently-attractive body. Victoria's words don't even phase Sunstreaker. Summer, on the other hand...
Sexism, racism, homophobia, ableism, ageism, everything Summer ever saw for herself, studied in college, and sought out more information on floods Sunstreaker's awareness. He mentally flails, while Summer's knuckles tighten their grip on the sides of her chair. Her knuckles turn white, but she shouldn't make a scene, she shouldn't-
That's just the programming from a patriarchal culture, Sunstreaker thinks.
Hunter jerks as something in his twin goes -snap-.
Summer twists in her seat and rises up on her knees. "When," she asks balefully, "has there ever been equality and unity between two different groups of people here on Earth?"

Most people who've had the misfortune of meeting Guido Ala would not expect him to darken the doorstep of a bookstore. At most, they might assume, he'd pick up girly magazines in a sleazy C-store or newstand. But then, few people know Guido very well.
Much of what Guido does, when he's not breaking kneecaps or ventilating someone is sit and wait. Sitting and waiting is boring, especially if there's nothing on TV. Guido's tastes are rather simple--he likes stories with lots of action and violence where tough-but-ordinary guys defeat the villains and get the girl--but he does like to read. At this moment, he's edging his way around the crowd at the book signing towards the back of the store where the classic Westerns are shelved, when Summer's question catches his attention.
"Huh, dat's easy. Whenever both groups can beat the livin' slag outta each other, and dey both know it--then dey treat each other wit' respect."

"Never," Victoria answers Summer coolly, "Over time humans have succeeded in bridging gaps between the sexes that have strengthened the race rather than weakened it. Yet humanity as a whole still clings to the ideas of separation, be that separation based on gender, orientation, religion, or skin. A step forward in the main is negated by the fifty steps backwards made by the uneducated populace who continues to think with blinded emotions rather than their intellect."
"Equality and unity, however, are still valid concepts in the main, even if in reality we see that it is not a unilateral applied concept. One must strive for the ideal, believe in it, and not allow those lacking in confidence or intelligence to provoke anger in one instead of action."
Victoria nods her head at Clio, "But this is not the time for a discussion of matters of politics. My apologies, Ms. Gabriel." She looks over her glasses at Summer, "If you would like to continue the discussion after the signing, I would be most amiable."

Terrence leans back in his seat, hands folded in his lap. He might appear to be napping. He might actually be napping, but he's a light sleeper, due to the nightmares.
Skippable for the moment. Will re-enter rotation once Victoria leaves the book signing.

Clio isn't particularly bothered by the progressively off-topic debate. She finds debates rather fascinating, as both a participant and an observer. However, she is also aware that she's here for a purpose at the moment, and that's to answer question about her novels, not listen to feminist debate, and she nods in acceptance of Victoria's apology.
"Are there any further questions? If not, we shall move on to the signing."
Calliope continues to give Terrence the stink-eye for a bit, but as he's only being kind of rude at the moment, instead of potentially gross and creepy, her attention quickly returns to her writer.
OOC: Shall we skip to during/after the signing, depending on what people want their characters to do?

Summer nods in acknowledgment to Victoria's points. As long as the woman doesn't believe they've achieved equality, Summer has no need to continue the discussion. Guido's comment does catch her attention, though, and she favors him with a smirk. "But we're much too civilized for that sort of thing today, aren't we?"
Sunstreaker's sharp-edged amusement bleeds into Hunter. He's soon smirking to match his twin.
A few members of the audience have questions actually relating to Clio's books.
OOC: Good with a skip.

Skipping Guido due to timeout
Victoria finds herself unable to stay and make good on her offer of continued debate with Summer. It seems that there is another matter which requires her attention.
She does, however, make a point of leaving her contact information with the signing coordinator, to give to Ms. Gabriel. It seems the CEO of Kao-nic would like to speak with the author about attending an upcoming literary event.
Victoria is rather pleased all around as she leaves the bookstore, heels tapping lightly along the sidewalk as she heads toward a cafe of which she is particularly fond, and the meeting arranged there.

Guido looks at Summer like she's a bit slow. "You don't watch the ten o'clock news, do ya? Half the people in the world is shootin' at each other over somethin' or other, on account of somebody didn't respect somebody, and they's pissed about it. An' why didn't dey respec' each other? 'Cause one bunch thought the other bunch was weak enough to push around. Contrariwise, you look at the old days when the U.S.A and Russia was both the big guys--dey didn't start a war wit' each other 'cause they knew the other guy was just as tough, and nobody else tried to push dem around, either."
He shrugs, and continues back to the westerns' shelf.
---- skippable if not replied to.

Terrence does not watch Victoria go. He does check his watch idly very soon after she leaves, and heads for the door, tailing her. If she stops, he'll keep going. He won't try and stay out of sight. He'll just generally try to look like he happens to be going in the same direction she is. For a while.
Also out of thread.

Summer's amusement drops as Guido blathers on.
Hunter rolls his eyes and mutters, "Looks like someone fell in the sarchasm."
Soon, the question-and-answer part of the session is finished, and people line up to get their books signed. Hunter joins the line. Summer signals her boredom with everything by filing her nails.
