It is tempting to think that this had been done by someone who felt oppressed and confined, who had no control over his life, so now he is out to prove that he can control others. Of course, that's just a crock of popular psychology. Esprit is going to try hard not to make too many assumptions here.

Esprit is almost certainly sick by human standards. By the standards of her own people, she's a productive member of society. She considers the killer they are chasing, and she ponders.

She can be an alien space robot later. She will.
