"She wasn't alone," he says, brushing his nose against Pierce's while still stubbornly looking away.
It was a stupid move, not making sure she was alone before visiting her apartment. If she'd been alone maybe he could have killed her again, scooped out her brain this time or stolen her head, solve the problem of her possibly ever remembering. Or he could have left well enough alone. Ridiculous impulsive mistakes.
But he'll kill anyone that tries to separate him from his new-found obsession in life.

“The problem, Xavier. Get to it.” Elly doesn’t remember Xavier, Xavier visited her house, someone else was there. Easy enough to avoid getting into trouble; just say ‘wrong door’, apologize, get out. Albeit incredibly stupid, visiting the victim’s home again.
Then again, murder for pleasure in general was incredibly reckless, in Pierce’s opinion. Sure, the murdering part may have been fun (mostly just gross), but there was always the lengthy clean up to do, and the never ending fear that it was going to come back and bite you if you made some mistake.

But Xavier doesn't want to get to it, and he grumbles his annoyance at Pierce for pressuring him, even though he knows he should just tell him. He leans in to grumpily bite at Pierce's chin, before mumbling, "Maybe I was a bit suspicious and maybe Elly's companion chased me..."
And maybe it was kind of fun. Being chased is familiar, even though something in him tells him the pursuer isn't quite right.

This is quickly getting worse and worse with each word Xavier is saying. If the look of slowly dawning horror on Pierce’s face was any give away. Low profile. How was he suppose to keep them under the radar if Xavier goes out and does things like this?
“... Xavier,” he laments softly, burying his face in one palm. “I would really like it if you didn’t go to jail.”

"I'm not going to jail!" Xavier snaps, scowling - more at himself than at Pierce. "It was just a little mistake. It'll be fine."
Sulkily he tries to bite the fingers covering Pierce's face, too. Nobody ever tells you not to bite the hand you feed.

The finger biting earns a yelp from Pierce, who then scowls at the other man.
“You murdered someone,” he reaches out to shake Xavier’s shoulders. “There are no ‘little’ mistakes after that! You haven’t even done it right from the beginning, how in the world are you going to be able to afford making more mistakes?!”

Xavier flushes red as Pierce shouts and shakes him by the shoulders, and this time it's no lovestruck blushing. Smacking Pierce's hands away, Xavier shifts to plant a knee on either side of Pierce's legs, straightening up so that he can actually glare down at the other man for once. He tries to fist his hands in the collar of Pierce's shirt as his face twists into a scowl.
"Shut up!" he snaps. "I did it just fine in the beginning!" Except he didn't. He got interrupted and didn't clean up properly and now, though he doesn't know it, the police have his DNA. It doesn't matter that he knows Pierce has a point, it's easier to get mad at Pierce for calling him out than to admit his fault. It doesn't matter that Xavier is really angry with himself, because no matter the source he always ends up getting his anger everywhere.
"I'm not getting caught again!" Again? For a moment the world tilts on its axis and Xavier almost remembers someone, someone important who he hated and loved for hating him so dearly. Someone who he hurt terribly, who chased him and caged him. A man in blue? A police officer? A guard? A Ma-
Reality snaps back into place, leaving Xavier feeling sick and disoriented, and with the distinct feeling that he'd just been thinking about something very important, though he couldn't remember what.

“Gh-” Pierce draws in a panicked breath when Xavier looms over him, getting ready to try and break the hold, grabbing the other’s wrists. Except for the briefest of moments, the black coil of emotions curled up inside him blooms- and it’s Rampage glaring down at him with seething green eyes, and the sinister silhouette of crab legs rippling against the dull living room light. It leaves Pierce frozen and blanched on the spot, breath coming in short, panicked and shallow gasps as the world threatens to collapse around him.
The dark emotions and whatever memories were accompanying them abruptly snap off however, the click of a light switch, and Pierce is left in a state of paralyzed terror. He manages to gather his wits enough to try and shove Xavier off of him while he was recovering, but his arms and legs are weak from the experience.
Everything was going wrong, just as he’d predicted, just as he KNEW was going to happen, Sigma, why did he let himself get close? Why did he let RAMPAGE into his house?

Xavier resists Pierce's attempts to push him away, but his hands drop from Pierce's shirts to hang at his sides and he settles back, no longer looming, settling part of his weight on Pierce's knees.
His expression is mostly blank as he watches Pierce, the other man's terror tickling over his skin, strong enough to feel. His eyebrows remain pinched together slightly with confusion in the aftermath of his sudden twist in reality.
Softly, he says, "You're afraid of me." It's neither accusatory nor celebratory, simply a statement drained of emotion.
Any other person and he'd be delighting in their fear, and part of him does thrill at the sweetness of his boyfriend's terror, but most of him doesn't know what to feel about this. He's not sure what Pierce will do if he's afraid of Xavier. If it makes him stay, Xavier thinks he's okay with that. But what if it drives Pierce away?
Xavier feels his own spark of fear, possessive and desperate, and though he realizes the polite thing to do would be to back off and give Pierce space, he can't resist reaching for Pierce's shoulders and leaning forward to try and touch foreheads.

“Get off,” Pierce hisses, struggling against Xavier’s hold, hands pressing against his chest. If he didn’t have much of a chance winning against Rampage in a close range fight as a cybertronian though, and he certainly have much of a chance now. “Get off, getoff, get- damnation-!” he utters a panicked noise and tries to lean away when Xavier touches his forehead against Pierce’s own. There wasn’t a lot of space between his head and the couch to begin with though and he mostly succeeds in wedging himself further into the couch rather than actually getting away.
Okay. Alright. Stop struggling. Save your energy. Breathe slowly. There was going to be another chance for him to get away in a bit, he just has to wait and... endure this extremely terrifying proximity to someone who’d just been Rampage a moment earlier. And who was now Xavier as well, and if that didn’t just make everything utterly confusing.
He wrenches together whatever tatters of anger he might have had and quietly glares up at Xavier. It was very difficult against the tide of possessive, desperate fear coming from the younger man at the moment, but he manages it somewhat. Carefully levelling his voice and steeling himself, Pierce manages, “You’ve just accessed one of your old memories.”

Xavier makes a distressed noise as Pierce tries to force him away, physically and verbally, and tries to curl his arms further around Pierce's shoulders and bury his face against his neck.
"No," he mumbles. "I won't let you go." Never. Not if Pierce tries to run away. Not if the police try to take him away. Not ever. Pierce belongs to him now, whether the other man likes it or not!
He stiffens slightly as Pierce mentions his old memories. Is that why Pierce is afraid? He knows the man didn't get along with who he said Xavier used to be - Rampage? Well, he's not going to let anyone take Pierce away form him. Not even himself.
Shrugging slightly, still curled around his Pierce, he says, voiced slightly strained, "Have I?"

“Xavier, the fate that awaits me after this is dubious at most as it is,” Pierce murmurs quietly, stiffening slightly when Xavier buries his face in his neck. He goes utterly still, trying desperately not to revel in the warmth of the arms around him. There was no safety here and he can’t let himself fall back into thinking there was just because it was Xavier he was speaking to now.
“It was a memory of someone important,” he says after a long moment of silence. “A... friend?” The word felt wrong. “‘Playmate’ maybe. Someone you knew well, but I don’t recall ever seeing an Autobot that felt like that.”

Someone important? It makes Xavier curious, to think that with his current life so devoid of connections before Pierce, that there might have been others that were meaningful to him. Playmate, old friend... He quickly shies away from thinking deeper on it, not wanting to deal with another resurgence of memory.
Not wanting to be Rampage again.
"What does it matter?" he whispers against Pierce's neck. He's willing to forget his absent past if it means keeping what he has in the present.

He feels Xavier’s internal withdrawal from his ruminations, a heavy weight settling in his chest despite the quiet wisp of gratefulness it brought him. This wasn’t what he was supposed to be doing.
“You will remember,” he says softly, closing his eyes, skin tingling from the warmth of Xavier’s breath. “It’s not something that you can suppress forever.” It was Shockwave’s wish. It was good for the Decepticons to have another fully capable soldier. Xavier being able to remember needed to be reinforced in a positive manner- not with Pierce freaking out at the very mention of Rampage.
A selfish part of him still wished they’d have more time.

"But will you still like me if I remember?" Xavier lifts his head to stare at Pierce. "You're afraid of him. Me. Rampage."
He doesn't know what to think of his past self. Are they really so different? Could a few memories really change things so much, make him not want Pierce? Surely Pierce - Phobia? - is his now, no matter what! And yet Pierce seems so convinced that Xavier remembering will only end terribly for him.
"I don't want to hurt you," he says, leaning in to try and brush lips with Pierce. Well, not seriously. He has the urge to bite those pretty pink lips. To sink his teeth in until he gets a taste of sweet, salty redness. He resists.
