The hand without a gun attached comes up to press against the flat of Skywarp's blade, leaving Breakaway's face open to the Decepticon's elbow. His mask is smashed in by the blow, and one of the tubes comes loose, spraying a mixture of energon, coolant, and some sort of bluish vapor.
He screams as he yanks at the sword, because he's being elbowed in the face as well as having a sharp object caught in the sensitive machinery attached to his wrist, and it hurts like hell.

His sword is stuck. Skywarp frowns even as Breakaway screams; he needs his sword back eventually if he wants to fly home.
"Let go!" he snaps and yanks hard on the weapon, trying to shove the other jet off with his foot and uncaring of whatever damage he does to Breakaway's arm so long as it's disabling.

Breakaway just grunts as the other jetformer tries to dislodge the sword from his gun. It's moved past the point where the pain is surprising enough to scream. "We're at point-blank range and you're the only one who brought a melee weapon. Slag no, I'm not letting go!" he retorts, bringing up a knee to (unsuccessfully) try and keep Skywarp from planting a foot on his abdomen.
The sword comes free, taking the ends of Breakaway's gatling gun barrels with it. The metal tubes go tumbling down toward the desert as Breakaway transforms and ignites his afterburner, jetting upward. He desperately needs distance if he's to stand any chance at this point.

While having his sword back and doing some damage in the process is satisfying, the sudden jolt as it comes free spins Skywarp away from Breakaway. Then he's got afterburners in his face and he curses, dropping at the same time that Breakaway climbs.
"What is it with this universe and my eyes?" he growls at nobody in particular, rebooting his visual cluster to clear out the lingering distortions.
"He's getting away," Wind Sheer says almost too quietly to be heard.
"No he isn't!" Skywarp snaps back and he turns his gaze upwards after the Autobot jet.

Firing his afterburners directly in Skywarp's face wasn't really the plan, but it's a pleasing side-effect of Breakaway's decision to put some distance between himself and the sword-wielding 'Con as quickly as possible. He does a quick diagnostic to make sure he's not losing energon from the beating he just got. (He isn't, but the inside of his cockpit is an absolute mess from where Skywarp elbowed him in the face.) He jets into a cloudbank, hiding inside it for the moment to plan his next move.

Unfortunately, Skywarp can't get his vision in order soon enough to see which cloud bank Breakaway vanished into, and he curses roundly at the spots and static dancing across the sky.
"I'll cut his thrusters off one flap at a time and feed him his own fans," he snarls, then looks up and around. "You!" he barks at Wind Sheer, who tenses where he's parked, ailerons tucking down. "Where did that blasted Autobot go?"
"Into the clouds," Wind Sheer answers dutifully. Skywarp curses again, then pauses and takes several deep cycles of air. It's a minor setback. He can still salvage this, he tells himself. His chances at redemption within this new unit aren't entirely gone. Glancing upwards again, he checks the skies for Skystrike, then glances back at Wind Sheer.
"I remember Wheeljack saying you're particularly good at being discreet?" More than a little dumbfounded to hear that Skywarp bothered remembering anything, Wind Sheer can't muster up an answer. Skywarp makes a disgusted noise. "Go," he orders. "Reconnaissance; the Autobot's likely to miss you." It takes Wind Sheer another couple of seconds to recover his equilibrium.
"Yes," he says as he releases the locks keeping him from just sliding off Skywarp's back. Just before dropping, he quickly adds, "Sir," lest he make the larger jet angry. Then he falls away, a tiny black triangle, no bigger than a large model airplane and with even less radar signature, only firing his engines once he, too, has the clouds for cover. Once Wind Sheer is away, Skywarp resumes his visual search, tense. Breakaway could open fire at any time, from anywhere overhead – or drop on him, Skywarp thinks, if he's willing to chance closing in for mêlée again.

Breakaway doesn't really have a plan at the moment. He just wants to stay in cover long enough for his auto-repair systems to turn the pain down to a dull roar. He does a few experimental maneuvers, adjusting his control surfaces. It looks like the loss of mass from having the end of his gun sheared off won't affect his flying too badly. Still, he'll need to finish this quickly.
Skywarp is still visible on radar, even through the clouds, as long as Breakaway stays in jet mode. But Skywarp can teleport, and Breakaway only has missiles and a machine gun in jet mode, and firing those will give away his position, allowing for a counter-attack. His sniper rifle offers a high probability of a one-hit kill. But if he transforms to robot mode to use it, he can't see the target.
Luckily, Skywarp isn't moving very fast or erratically right now and Breakaway enjoys doing crazy things. There's some quick mental calculations and then Breakaway transforms and levels his rifle at where the Decepticon ought to be. He grins behind his mask as he fires.

Breakaway is lost to Skywarp in the clouds unless he transforms, and he's still at a disadvantage – the other jet still has height on him, he assumes, if Breakaway didn't just take the chance to escape, and he can't climb fast enough to match. Staying in one place is no good, either. Wind Sheer needs to hurry up.
And Wind Sheer is trying to hurry, but he's wary of giving himself away, even knowing he's more likely to find the Autobot before being spotted himself. He's even more wary of failing Skywarp, so he focuses as he ascends, hardly more significant to radar than a bird. Breakaway has a head start on him but he can make it up, he's sure. Relief washes through him when he picks up the larger jet hiding above him in the cloudbank.
//Skywarp! On your five, high!// he calls at the same time that shot cuts through the sky. Skywarp doesn't stop to look; it's a waste of seconds that mean escape or injury, and he trusts that Wind Sheer will report properly, as ordered, because he expects to be obeyed. The instant Wind Sheer's voice crackles over the radio, Skywarp pivots to give chase and it's the only thing that saves him from a rifle blast through the chest. It burns through his right shoulder instead, burning out wires and searing metal, and Skywarp bellows in pain, arm going limp, sword tumbling away earthward. He twists and dives after the weapon – he needs his wing.
//Wind Sheer!// he orders, savage with rage and the fire of his dead arm, damage alerts screaming orange and red in his peripheral field. //We're Powerlinking! NOW!// High above, Wind Sheer shudders at the order. He doesn't want to comply, but he doesn't really have a choice in the matter, and he plummets after Skywarp at top speed.

Breakaway whoops and pumps a fist as he transforms back into an F-35 and plummets down out of the cloudbank. He may not have killed Skywarp with that shot, but he's taken away the initiative. Water vapor trails off his wings as he arms a pair of heat-seeking missiles, centers the 'Con in his sights, and starts blaring Highway to the Danger Zone over his radio.
