Kate nods. "Yeah, they do," she says quietly, glancing around the office.
"Something changed 'em." She pauses. "Us. S'why your doctor wouldn't catch it."

Petunia mulls that over. It's as good a theory as the starfish one, and it would fit with her own idea that she's an alien. But.... "But you didn't just appear out of nowhere. You've always been here. Everyone says."

Kate shrugs. "Yeah, I don't get it, either. I been here forever... but I also just got here." She shakes her head. "I... got two sets of memories." She watches Dahlia carefully. Even if this is Pee-Dee, if she doesn't remember herself, it's a dangerous admission.

Two sets of memories? Like, Kate was just made with a history intact, but she didn't exist until a little while ago, but everyone remembers her existing-?
"That's terrifying," Petunia says in a small voice.

Kate tilts her head to consider it for a moment. Then she shrugs. "Only if you think about it."

"What else are you supposed to do?"

Kate shakes her head faintly. "Accept it, work on fixing it when the opportunity shows up, and don't worry about it the rest of the time. Something's... broke. Something changed folks without our consent, and I'm not one to just let something like that alone, but at the same time, I don't what can be done... so I'm dealing with what I can do until that whatever shows itself." Consider Unicron. The first time the Transformers of her reality faced that monster, they had no idea how they were going to deal with it. They just threw themselves at the thing based on guesses and one punk's reassurance that they'll figure something out along the way... and somehow, they made it work.
Of course, if Kate gets too far out of her depth, she needs someone else to goad her into action, but for now, there's police work, there's police work until someone in their group figures out a way to fix everything, and then there's that.

Petunia nods. "Sounds like a plan.
Her hands want something to do, so she finds herself transforming Spinister and back again. It's almost soothing, more soothing thany any of her thoughts since she's started thinking about who she actually is.
"Don't be lying to me," she says softly. "I don't think I can forgive another lie."

Kate narrows her eyes at the Spinister doll. Because it's Spinister. She then looks up at Dahlia and, still frowning but expression less suspicious, more confused, asks, "Who's been lying to ya'?"

"Muzzle." Petunia sets Spinister down and digs into her filing cabinet. She finds the file she's looking for and hands it to Sergeant Mason.

Kate looks over the record. Then her eyes widen, and she looks closer. She frowns, muttering, "That's not even possible," and then her frown that twists into a scowl.
She straightens and shakes her head faintly. "It ain't possible for him to have done this stuff, Petunia," she states. "Where'd you get this?"

"It's not possible?" Petunia asks, puzzlement scrunching her face. "How come? What, has he been lying to me about being on Earth, too?"
"Esprit gave it to me." She points at the jurisdiction - Las Vegas. "It's from her old beat."

Dammit, what the blazes did Kate just walk into?
"That part, he might have," Kate admits, muttering tiredly. "'Hey, I ain't been on this planet for the last few years,' isn't exactly something you fess up on a lark. But I'm not sure what you mean about 'too', since if he was keeping that quiet, he couldn't exactly have been lyin' about... well, not most of this, anyway." She looks at the jurisdiction that Petunia pointed to and lifts a brow. "But I do gotta wonder, if Miss Hunt did know about a killer-meta new to our turf, why she didn't feel like sharing with the rest of the department." She looks up at Dahlia. "Or were the two of you doing a little 'off duty' investigation that you didn't feel like sharing with the rest of us?"

Petunia blinks. "Well, you told me you weren't always from Earth on a lark." Clearly, this means Muzzle should have done it too. Clearly.
"She didn't?" Petunia tilts her head slightly. "I thought it was just something I'd missed being amnesiac. She's never struck me as the type to dodge doing her proper duty."

"That weren't a lark," Kate argues. "That was a calculated risk." Obviously. Then she adds, muttering, "And apparently, not that well calculated, either."
Then she shakes her head, lips pursed when Petunia says, 'She didn't?' "If she did, this's the first I heard about it."
