Month 8, Week 2, Day 3. Pierce's library. Semi-private.
Detectives Dahlia and Hunt have drawn another gruesome murder. This one's a cold case, though. Frankly, Petunia has no idea why they even got assigned it, except maybe the Captain wants them to go be creepy at some other place besides his station. (Petunia also thinks it is unfair of people to call Esprit creepy. So she doesn't talk much. So what?)
As it is, however, the two detectives need a consult a microfiche that they've finally tracked down to this branch. Petunia looks around hopefully for a librarian.

Esprit realises with some irritation, that she really needs to go to the washroom. She knows where it is, of course. She always studies the layout of any building she enters. Esprit turns and stares unerringly at the direction of the washroom as the crow flies. Hopefully Det. Dahlia understands that staring in the direction of the washroom means that Esprit is going to go use the washroom.
Now she lopes off to do so.
OOC: Skippable.

Pierce looks up from his usual spot by a book cart in time to catch a glimpse of a very familiar combination of gaudy pinks and greens disappearing around a book shelf. He blinks and rubs his eyes, feeling the hair on the back of his neck stand up.
Before he could go chase after the garishly colored glimpse though, he is distracted by Niels with pointing out a woman looking around for a librarian.
“I’ll take care of the books,” he says cheerily. Pierce manages not to look entirely annoyed as he makes his way to her, casting a quick glance over his shoulder; looks like whoever that was headed in the direction of the washroom. He’ll have to keep an eye out for when they come out.
“May I help you?” he says as he comes to a stop in front of her.

"Yep!" Petunia smiles and holds up a notepad where she has the requisite dates for the microfiches she needs. "I'm told this branch keeps the microfiches for [X newspaper] from [date] to [date]. Can you help me find these?"

“Of course.” Pierce was, after all, the librarian and the librarian’s job boiled down to helping people find information, directly or indirectly. “We also have them catalogued on the computer as well, if you prefer that?” Not a lot of people asked for the actual microfiches these days, really.

"I think the Captain would be annoyed if I could study them from my desk and not have to come out here whenever I need to check on something." Petunia's smile takes on overtones of 'dear God, help me'. "Also, I'd like to learn to use a microfiche. I've never used one of those before!"
She adds, "If you could show me on the computer later, that would be much appreciated."

‘Captain’? Police related investigations then? “Your Captain is horrendously inefficient,” Pierce remarks, looking quite offended at the very notion of it all. Really! Sending your underlings to do things they could do in the same place! What a waste of time and energy and really, it was just horrible, horrible organization. How terrible!
Mental rant aside, Pierce gestures for her to follow, “We have all of the equipment and microfiches stored up on the second floor.”

If Pierce ever has the misfortune to spend weeks with Detectives Dahlia and Hunt, he may come to understand why Fanzone sent them out here.
"All right," she says. "Do you mind if we wait until my partner finishes using the bathroom? She'd find us even if we didn't, but it'd be polite."

Well, Phobia survived the Decepticons as long as he did. Spinister and Petunia were probably pretty civilized company compared to some of the people he’d worked with previously. Spinister would be terrifying of course, but he at least had a rhyme and reason for most of his behaviour.
“Ah, of course,” Pierce answers. Was it the glimpse of teal and pink he’d seen? Worrisome and simultaneously relieving: he can at least find out if it was who he thought it was.

Xavier strolls into the library like he owns the place. Given how often he comes here and that it's where his boyfriend works, he actually feels rather proprietary about it. His library. His librarian.
His librarian who he has a delightful homemade lunch of curry chicken and rice for. And there's his Pierce right now! Xavier smiles in greeting, but the expression drops from his face as he notices who's with the other man.
It's a woman. And not just any woman. A certain suspicious redheaded woman who he does not want in his library talking to his librarian at all.
Xavier's fist clenches around the paper bag he's carrying with an audible crunch.

Petunia glances towards the sound of crunching paper. There's a brief moment of startlement on her face, then her expression twists into a smile. "Well, hello there."

Out of the corner of his eyes, he catches the familiar red of Xavier’s hair and turns towards it, the beginning of a smile on his lips- which falters slightly at the crunch of the paper bag and the look on Xavier’s face.
He glances quickly between them, recalling just what he’d been told about the incident with Elly. How someone had been with her. Oh. Oh this was potentially dangerous.
“My dear,” he says warmly in greeting, smile firmly on his face. He looks back to Petunia and says a polite ‘Pardon me for a moment’ before stepping around her and walking up to his boyfriend, reaching out to touch Xavier’s hand and leaning down to kiss his cheek in an uncharacteristic display of public affection. “Are you alright?” The very image of a concerned lover. It was a risky move, but it put himself between Xavier and and the good officer for the moment.

"You-!" Xavier begins to growl at Petunia when Pierce goes and surprises him by willingly kissing him in public. Startled into silence, he's left to flap his mouth open and closed as his mind promptly begins to panic because it's one thing for someone to be chasing him alone, but now she can connect him to his Pierce. As always happens when he gets worried, Xavier quickly gets angry.
Grabbing for Pierce's arm, his hisses, "Why would you-!?" He tries to push Pierce away, to put himself between his boyfriend and Petunia. He glares at her, waiting to see what she does, because what he'd really like to do is wrap his arms around her throat and squeeze until she stops struggling, but it highly doubts that would go over well in the middle of a library.

Petunia reaches back and pulls her phone out of her back pocket. She scrolls through a few things, firing a text off to Esprit. Then she brings up the camera, eyes flicking up to Mr. Paige. There's a slight shake of her head, then she clicks out and replaces her phone.
"I hate to interrupt, but I'm going to need Mr. Pierce back at some point."

Niels, Miranda, all the people in the library who had just seen Pierce kiss Xavier. They could be used as leverage against the officer if something bad happened. As Pierce was quickly learning however, Xavier was almost always the wildcard in his plans.
“You two know each other?” he asks softly, peering curiously between Xavier and Petunia, a slight frown on his face. He tightens his fingers every so slightly around the other man’s wrist, hoping he would get the warning and also to calm him; he can feel the fear through his fingers and it was rather worrisome. This would be a horrible, horrible time to panic do something irrational.
