Evac staggers slightly when Shockwave fires on the roof, attempting to find a good target from his own position at one of the guns.
Frankly, he's unsure where he should be in this conflict, though with the force shield, he's at least somewhat protected. Because, face facts, he's a very large target and though he carries many weapons, none of them are especially powerful.
"Looks like I might have to head up and take the fight to them," he says grimly.

One.
He's not a real Harrier.
For one thing, he's stupidly faster than any real Harrier has a right to be.
Slingshot leaves the sound barrier behind as he dives down on the Decepticon jets.
Two.
He's not a real Harrier.
Anything a real Harrier can do, he can do better.
Which means he's stupidly maneuverable compared to even a Transformer jet.
He comes in from the side, trusting to speed rather than stealth, because there's not a cloud in the sky today.
Three.
BluejetbluejetyellowjetgreyjetSTARSCREAM!
HimselfSkyblast (creeeeeeepy!), purplegun!
Slingshot slows as he levels out, and then his mortar cannons open up. Strictly energy blasts right now as he scythes through the enemy fliers.
He's been saving his big rockets since he got here. When they're gone, they're gone.
Starscream's a good reason to bring one out, though.
FOUR!
He's through them almost before he realizes it. Kick in the afterburners, go up-
Pseudo-random zig-zag. It'll kill speed, but it'll cut down on missile locks.
If he had a face in this form, Slingshot would smile.
Good ol' Skydive.

Slingshot knows himself. He knows how he'd prefer to attack a group like this.
... It seems that how he would do it, and how his mirror-self would do it aren't quite the same.
The Harrier evades laser-blasts neatly and doesn't peel off to follow himself. Some people might have grudges against the face in the mirror. He does not.
Besides, he's designed for air-to-ground combat, not air-to-air.
Speaking of which... That corner looks like it needs a missile halfway down it. Playing with the air-defenses was pointless.
This Slingshot fires a single missile from his left mortar cannon, locked onto the front right corner of the Autobase, about three-fourths of the way down.

Sky-Byte in all his speedy air-travel glory arrives with a bit of lag time compared to the other jets. But lucky him, he arrives just as the party action is getting warmed up.
This shark won't be sticking around here for too long though, oh no. He's set some bigger goals for himself than just wanton destruction: focused and thorough destruction of the Autobot power facilities. Just imagine the success of commander of Warfare Sky-Byte!
With a 'Terrorize!', Sky-Byte unfolds into robot mode and services the Autobot gun-tower with a quick "Tsunami Blaster!" before the he transforms again. Sky-Byte powers deeper into the city. Look out Autobots and power stations, because here he comes!

What was Skyblast designed for? It's hard to say. The Allspark just happens to like producing psychopathic, destructive, and sometimes thirst-quenching pieces of machinery. It's a very lucky thing that Skyblast actually possesses social skills. However, insofar as he's equipped with a cannon that isn't particularly suitable for ground targets and a set of wingblades, it may be assumed that he is more or less intended for air-to-air combat.
Thus, Slingshot gets a vicious little escort fighter prowling his airspace. At the sight of the other Slingshot, Skyblast visible bristles, his wingblades extending.
It's funny. He just can't bring himself to imagine Slingshot slashed and tattered, kindling for the fire, not even an alternate Slingshot.
Luckily, he doesn't have to fight the other Slingshot. He spies an Evac down there, and Skyblast's limited sentimentality definitely does not extend to the helicopter. Skyblast dives at Evac. If Evac doesn't move, Skyblast will try to rake him with a wingblade.

A heavy gray Pave Low follows along near the back of the aerial fleet. Blackout lacks the speed to stay at the forefront where he'd like, so he just keeps up as best he can. He launches a brace of missiles at the building, refusing to let his speed hinder his ability to join the assault.
Of course, there are other assigned targets for Warfare. Blackout descends into the city, following Mirage-3's maps and heading for a nearby power station. Time to vent.

Skystrike finally streaks in, seemingly displeased that she’d been sent out to fight again so soon. And she was, make no mistake of that, but she supposes she’s not in much of a position to complain for the time being. She had to shoot at things right now and save sulking for later.
With all the dull enthusiasm that she’ll ever show, the blue jet dives in and keeps her distance from the other jets as much as possible. She takes heed of Shockwave’s suggestion and the missiles she sends off is focused more at the buildings surrounding the gunning platforms rather than the platforms themselves. Shooting at the force fields were rather pointless anyways considering the fact that they were made to withstand direct hits from most weapons.

"Shields..." Starscream curses. "Fleetwind! Skyblast! Look for the generator!" Starscream notices the Aerialbot arrive, but is too busy avoiding the anti-aircraft weaponry that a stray shot from Slingshot grazes his wings.
Starscream, meanwhile, has something that can beat shields. Sure, a Null Ray won't shut it down, even a powerful one, if it is less functional, less people are going to get shot at.
The F-15 begins a forward tumble as arms and legs extend. By the time it's done a three-quarter-circle turn, the F-15 is once again Starscream in robot mode, firing at Long Haul's missile battery.

"Owowowowow!" Needlenose complains as he rockets forward, jinking this way and that to avoid anti-aircraft fire and not being entirely successful, as several shots tear through wings. "Slag-grabbing, solder-sucking..." he mutters for a bit longer, then asks, "Wouldn't a generator be inside? Or at least under the shields?"
Not that it matters much to Needlenose. He's unleashing two powerful photon missiles at the side of one wall, completely bypassing the shields and reinforced roof, both!

Fleetwind, who had been flying overhead, starts to circle around to attack the buildng from a different direction, when two things happen:
1) He is cut off by a darting Aerialbot.
2) Starscream gives him an order that is virtually impossible to carry out because he's been cut off by a darting Aerialbot.
//Erm, I'll do my best, sir, but I'm going to have to deal with Slingshot first.// With that he transforms, twists, transforms again, and starts to climb, perhaps to give chase, perhaps to play bait, or perhaps merely to get above the trouble.

Duskwing's rolling and jinking helps, but he's too close and there's too much steel and laser-light in the air to dodge it all. A flurry of shots scores his wings and clips his tail--
"YARRRGH! SLAG YOU, ya scum-sucking, slag-breathing, retreaded excuses for defective training drones!" Duskwing curses fluidly. He hurtles past, then banks sharply, diving as he turns until he's below the edge of the roof--Bet you can't depress that gun so low, huh?
He swoops up suddenly, cresting the roof beside one of the gun mounts--then transforms, reveling in the precision with which he can drop down to the roof with his new anti-gravs. No more wobbling on his boot thrusters!
--Precision which puts him right where he wants to be--behind the gun mount. Duskwing raises his arm cannon and fires them at the small blue gunner within and then lunges forward, ready to grab if his target, Holi, falls or dodges out of the gunner's chair.

Ah ha! Orders! Starfighter likes orders, it means he knows what not to do. He swings around to the side of the building that's least fired upon and starts trying to shoot out windows or support beams or anything that looks vulnerable.
Now he just needs to work up to Duskwing's level of cursage and he'll be doing great.

Post by Long Haul on May 6, 2008 22:45:12 GMT -5
Considering attacks can come from all sides for something like the Autobase, shields that only covered one side would be very ineffective shields indeed.
Which is why these don't work that way.
Sure, they don't cover the whole roof, but they protect the entirety of the gun-mounts, particularly their operators. Thus it is that Duskwing's shots are absorbed by the shielding, and if he doesn't halt his lunge, he's liable to run face-first into those same force fields.
Of course, this does beg the question of how Long Haul and Holi are going to get off that roof, although Long Haul really isn't worried about that.
No, he's trying to keep his crumbling building in-tact. Trying, and failing.
He's not noticed the incursion behind him, so he keeps directing fire outwards, and yet even he can see the damage done to the building. At this point, the roof is becoming somewhat unstable. It won't be much longer now.
The miserable Constructicon croaks a report over the channel, and sets the guns on auto before turning to abandon his handiwork. He notes, absently, that it seems to be losing power at an abnormal rate anyway, though he doesn't yet know enough to realize the source is Starscream’s Null blast. There are still people to be gotten out, and Long Haul is still at a point where people mean more than buildings without having to be made into them first.

The problem with being a giant flying gun is that you have the maneuverability of a flying refrigerator. Shockwave does not even have the luxury of changing size like some gun-formers. Which means when the shots start coming in earnest, Shockwave transforms back to robot mode to better dodge.
He takes hits still, one through his thigh, another grazes his waist as he twists a bit too slow, hits that cone from the one particular gunner. Shockwave is close enough now to better see the other gunners. He doesn't know Evac of course but that other one, the one Duskwing is futility menacing, the one whose shots hit Shockwave, is very familiar, colorization not withstanding. It appears the Autobots have a Micromaster.
Shockwave fights the urge to concentrate entirely on scrapping the little gunner. Instead he radios, true malice in his tone: //Oh yes, Duskwing. Do please kill the little one. Painfully//
Shockwave falls below the gun line, transforms, and makes another full power blast low on the corner. Full-power and point blank, before circling around the building and continuing on into the city.
Shockwave has his own agenda for this battle.
OOC: Shockwave is out of thread.

That quiet little sense of pride at Holi's core wells up as his shots along with Long Haul's prove not ineffective. They're making some difference, at least! Even if they have to retreat, they've left their marks. Even if they have to retreat, they can make sure the Decepticons don't get away without casualties!
And they will have to retreat, Holi realises as the building rocks and quakes beneath him. But they can't give up, not yet! Just a little more time, he promises himself, turning his gunfire in a sweep toward the fliers still grouped and incoming, firing back. He can make a little more time for Firebolt and Makeshift to finish their work if he tries, he knows he can. Even a handful of seconds can make all the difference; this, the young captain knows well enough.
A few seconds can make the difference for him, too. Busy focusing on the opponents still in the air, he loses track of Duskwing until, suddenly, there's a Decepticon shooting at him from behind. The force field ablates the laser fire, leaving Holi to turn in his seat at the sound. He grimaces and yelps at the Seeker's proximity, but he has the shield to protect him. For now. it doesn't seem to be doing too well, especially not with a Decepticon making as if to ram it. Holi frowns in out and out anger and jams on the gun mount's controls, bringing it to bear on his would-be attacker.
"Get away!" he shouts as he fires.
