This damned meme has pretty much taken over my friend's page on LJ. If it keeps it up, I'm going to have to remove "Good RPers Rock" from my watch list. -_-; On the other hand, people who do a good job deserve praise, but if I posted there, most of you would never see it, so I'm importing it. Here we go!
Name a handful of people you RP with, read, or have heard of. Say something positive, a reason why you like their characters, or the players. Anything that is constructive, positive, and better than the general: <3!!
First, as a general comment that applies to this whole board: the level of writing here is amazing. The technical basics, grammar, spelling, punctuation, are all well handled by pretty much everyone on the board, and well above the norm compared with other places I've seen. I... well, I have to admit, I'm a bit of a RP elitist. I don't want to be, but I am. And you guys? You all exceed my expectations so regularly that I am blown away. General kudos all around!
Second, just so you know, I'm going down our list of approved characters and will be using the first character listed for each player, which isn't always the character most associated with them. It just makes my life easier, and this is a long post, so I need that. Also, I'm skipping any currently abandoned characters. I'd love it if those players returned to us, but a few folks have been Not Here for so long that it's hard to remember distinctive points of RPing with them (and it seems unlikely that they'll see this post, anyway).
Emirate Xaaron: Emirate Xaaron's player has a trend towards powerful characters and powerful writing. Her use of emotion and imagery in many of his posts are utterly amazing, enough to draw the reader in and get them involved. Metaphore, simile, anthropomorphizing elements, and multiple other advanced writing techniques all get used to stunning effect, resulting in posts that aren't just superb RP posts, but superb examples of writing, period. I seriously consider this player a joy to RP with, and he's given me images and scenes that will live with me forever.
Perceptor: Man. I generally consider myself pretty good at the techno-babble. I mean, one of my duties is in editing technical manuals for the Navy, so you'd think I'd be pretty handy at it! But Perceptor's player? She just puts me to shame. I both admire and am intimidated by her techno-babble abilities. I just don't know how she does it. I certainly couldn't write dialogue for that character with the consistency she does!
Synapse: Synapse's player has brought a number of great things to the game - our first RiD characters, a lovable low-powered OC, a lot of enthusiasm, and lots and lots of haiku! Synapse is great because he can be so incredibly useful to the plot without ever actually entering a thread, and Sky-Byte's struggle in this strange new Decepticon dominated world is just great. "I'm working for a Decepticon! Ye-gad! I... have authority over more people than I ever had before. And they obey me. And some of them like me. But I'm working for a Decepticon!" Funny stuff.
Nightbeat: Nightbeat's player loves him some stereotypes, but he's good at them so I say "Keep it up!" I have to say, I think Nightbeat himself is my favorite of the bunch, but I do like seeing grumpy old Ratbat when he pops up, and Wheelie's interaction with Grimlock and Holi is adorable. Speaking of Wheelie, the player gets major applause for keeping up the rhyming thing. That impresses me every time. He also gets applause for playing so many Marvel characters. Hooray, comic-interpretations!
Swerve: First off, Swerve's player runs wonderful characters that are all wonderfully distinctive. Second, she obviously has a great fondness for variety. Whether it's in fleshing out an toy only Cybertron or movie character, giving love to the only Japanese G1 character in the game, or managing a spot-on portrayal of a Beast Wars character that already had plenty of development in canon, Swerve's player has got it covered. She's a blast to RP with, a pro-active gamer, and has been a welcome addition to the crew from the time she joined on.
Bumblebee: Bumblebee's player runs a pretty wide variety of characters, and while he tends towards the humorous (and boy, can he be outrageously funny at times - one of this board's bigger wits), he's also done a great job with more serious and subtle characters, such as Blackarachnia and now, Optimus Prime. But I've really got to give him props over his Starscream. His Starscream cracks me up on a regular basis, but what's better, I can consistently hear the dialogue he writes in G1 Starscream's voice in my head. That's trickier to pull off than a lot of people think - a good deal of fanfic doesn't manage it. But he does. Bravo!
Jazz - Jazz's player is a one-character wonder, but what a wonderful job she does at that one character! When Jazz arrived, we didn't get a piece of him - we got two pieces - making for the most memorable Autobot arrival to date, and since then his bubbly enthusiasm has been a blast to watch, as has that flirting that's been going on between him and the plant lady...
Slingshot - Slingshot's player seems to specialize in the real heart-rending moments, from the agony he suffered when faced with Optimus Prime's body soon after his arrival to the touching radio conversation between him and my Long Haul early in the game. Her characters are at their best when they're Not Happy, but their Not Happy moments are great RP for the rest of us. Oh, that, and Shrapnel and Pee-Dee are both just so blasted fun that it's... well, it is funny. And fun. Funny fun, and proof that she does more than angst. She's just really good at the angst.
Mirage - Mirage's player represents 2/3 of all the DW G1 characters in game... and 100 percent of the ones already introduced! Mirage is wonderfully arrogant, Shockwave is wonderfully creepy, Botanica... is just wonderful, and in all her characters, this player is excellent about stirring up RP and helping us admin by providing more fun scenes for you, the players, to take part in. There are many very good players on this board, but in my mind the line between good player and great player comes in the ability not to just write well and in-character, but to proactively encourage RP both in starting scenes and in how your posts continue to carry scenes, to not just be a reactive player, and Mirage? She's one of the greats.
Grimlock - Grimlock's player is great with battle and great with the funny stuff, often providing much needed comedy relief in scenes and bouncing off of "straight man" characters wonderfully. In fact, these are so much the trademarks of Grimlock's player that I was completely unaware he could handle a character with depth. Then he landed Springer and blew my mind. The thread containing Springer's first meeting with Kup has, for me, been immensely memorable in a game that's constantly above par, anyway, and I am incredibly pleased that he took that character - though I certainly enjoy the pirate and the Dinobot as well!
Sideburn: The things I remember best concerning Sideburn's characters are the interview between Airazor and Kup (really enjoyed that interaction, and wouldn't mind seeing the characters together in a scene again sometime), and "Cutie." "Cutie" pwns. Mind you, I sometimes wonder if the character isn't a little messed in the head sometimes, but he's been entertaining, and now that I've finally seen RiD, true to source.
Bluestreak: Bluestreak's player is really, really good about letting her characters take the hits. She's a great sport in battle, willing to take the hit to help other players feel better. That sort of generosity deserves recognition, and so here I am, recognizing it. Thank you, Bluestreak!
Firebolt: I've got one word to describe this player's most significant quality: enthusiasm. And boy, does she have lots of it! She's just returning after a long absence, and it was great to see Jetstorm back in activity again! Don't leave us so long next time! With Thrust MIA, you're our only Vehicon!
First Aid: First Aid, our conscientious objector pacifist and another one-character wonder, is abso-firking-lutely adorable. The threads he's in are always a blast to read, and the player is incredibly patient when things are going slow and easy to deal with overall.
Claw Jaw: And here we have our King of the Toy Only characters, and entertaining to deal with in all his Toy Only forms. I really like how he seeks out the quirky and unusual characters to flesh out from their bio... but heck, I like well done toy only characters in general, and this game seems to have nothing but.
Skyfire: Skyfire's player really puts a lot of depth, a lot of thought, and a lot of heart into all her characters, and it really shows. An extremely intelligent, extremely active player who obviously cares very deeply for her characters and for the game, showing a dedication to doing them well that's rare and greatly appreciated.
Oracle: Oracle! Come back to us, Oracle! We miss you! ;_; Our blind Autobot Seeker of mystery, Oracle arrived to us with a deep dark secret and a somewhat mysterious past... so of course she got ousted almost right away. Whoops! The character (and her abilities) are complex, and have been complex to deal with in-game, but the player's patience, good attitude, and willingness to work with the staff every time an issue has come up has made her a pleasure to deal with and a welcome addition to the game. I know she's going through rough times right now, and it's just my hope that she's able to return to us as soon as possible.
Makeshift: Makeshift's player is a downright professional RPer. He's come right in, learned the ropes on his own, asked for very little guidance, started threads and made proactive posts to help give the others in the threads things to respond to, and added well-developed, unique characters that have helped to expand the game universe. Our only Mini-Con ("What? You call yourself a '-con,' but you don't work with the Decepticons?"), our only DW Armada character, and our first IDW character, he's added another quirky layer of interaction by helping to bring the game into previously unchartered territory.
Ironfire: Because the world needs more tank chicks! No. Really. It does! Ironfire's player is returning to us after a long absence, which is good, because I didn't want to see the Electric Boogaloo thread die out! Fun characters, quirky interactions... now, if only we can see what the rest of his guys have been up to!
Skid-Z: Skid-Z hasn't been here very long, so there's not been much to say yet, but I've got to say I've been pleased as punch with how easy he was to incorporate into the game - a player who obviously read up before getting started. That makes life easier on the staff, and tends to signify great things in the future. I know I'm looking forward to it!
Skystrike: Aaaaah, yes, the Seeker-hating-gargoyle-Seeker! Grumpy, irritable, and certain to further confuse those from gender-confused realities! Skystrike is a nicely understated character, and the player is a great deal of fun to hang out with in chat... when we can catch her! It's nice to see her returning after her extended absence, too.
Eye-fire: When going down the list of "adorable OCs" this game has, Eye-fire's name tends to come up fairly early. He's also got the worst luck of any Decepticon outside of Thundercracker, and I swear there are animals that are now keeping count of the number of times they've mauled him! The relationship developing between Long Range and Sky-byte has been fun to watch, too, and I know I, for one, will be very interested to see where that goes.
Mixmaster: Mixmaster! Another Constructicon! The character... well, the character's something of a nutter, the sort that it can be very, very hard to pull off without coming off as OOC or just annoying the heck out of everyone around them, but our Mixmaster has a handle on it, and that pleases me to no end. Seriously. I am amazingly picky about my Mixmasters. My standards are high due to excellent previoius RP with the character. That's a tough expectation to be stepping into, but our new player takes it head on and lives up to those expectations. Bravo!
Now. This is a meme, so you lot are encouraged to copy this and do similar. No, not everyone has to mention every player (this took me a few hours to complete, so I can understand if not everyone wants to go through that), but if folks could each highlight a few other players here and there, that would be awesome. And seriously, given the usual level of RP on this board? I think you all deserve it. Give yourselves a round of applause, a pat on the back, and any other similar you can think of. You've earned it.
