What do you think of adding a "Deadzone History" section to character pages on the Wiki? Some characters have been here long enough and done enough to add significant game canon to their official canon; even more so for original characters. Some characters have had changes from their original/canonical state on arrival.

As the admin who handles the Wiki, I'm only for this if I don't have to write up people's individual character histories in Deadzone.

Sorry, left out that part. I meant to note that players would submit the DZ History section, like they submit the character history bit in the app, though it would be optional.

I agree with Motormaster, with the added note that if a player drops a character who is picked up by someone else (hasn't happened yet, but it will), I feel they should be allowed to gloss over things in their history they feel is not fitting for their interpretation of the character, if they want to.
In fact, when it comes to interpersonal relationships, this is already a rule, anyway.
(I am also not into making this a requirement so much as an 'optional thing if the players want it.')

Bumping this because I've thought on it a bit more:
What about a sub-board where we can post in-game back history summaries, to be appended to our Wiki entries at the mods leisure? In the meantime, it would be available for viewing by other players, and people considering applying for dropped canon characters. I get the impression that new players find it a bit daunting to plow through the years of back posts to figure out what is going on and what a dropped/picked-up character might know.
I wonder if that has been an obstacle to newcomers picking up dropped characters?

Well, one problem there is that a lot of people who leave do it without pre-planning. If people want to maintain their own back-histories in post, that's one thing. Also, as I've already mentioned, I really favor people being allowed to gloss over previous character history so that new players don't have to plow through back posts if they don't want to. A quick post of, "Hey, what's this character's current status?" on the general board by an interested potential applicant should be enough to get things going, or, "Does anyone have any prior roleplay with this character that they want to make sure is preserved?" It would be assumed that anyone who doesn't speak up about particular events doesn't mind if it gets kind of ignored.
We'll talk the possibility of an extra board for it over, but maintaining posts for individual characters would be entirely at the option of the player, and I'd still like to give new players for old characters the freedom to either hold-to or gloss-over particular events depending on how they fit the new player's interpretation. I do realize that this has the potential to become kind of frustrating for the players of characters they've interacted with, but requiring them to hold to behaviors they don't agree with for the character seems to trample on consent.

I wasn't thinking so much of behaviors with other characters as when the character arrived and what events they were part of. For example, Duskwing was there for the DZ-3 stuff and remembers it well, but I think he arrived after the big battle for the power station--whereas Dead End was one of the very earliest arrivals on Gillanan III and remembers it all.
