Week 1, day 3, immediately after Untangling the Crossed Wires. Private thread. Ask before joining.
Perceptor watches the door to the brig slide shut, leaving him behind with nothing more than his thoughts, as Kup ushers Springer off to Medical. At least Kup seems marginally calmer now, than when he's first arrived in the brig, so that, at least, is a good thing.
The old mech does have a point, though, about the training that the science/engineering/medical section has. They're perilously short on good medics, and more cross training is needed. Not just for the scanners and the more delicate equipment and jobs, but all the way around.
He will have to look into that as soon as he is done with dealing with Springer's situation.

Oh, look at this. Perceptor, where he can't wander off. Sometimes, listening to that Autobot broadband actually did more than make Drift's cortex hurt.
Time to have a little talk about safety--the 'nerds (no matter how big they were) shouldn't wander off in a big ship under assault' kind. and maybe get some answers about other things.
He swaggers over to the cell's door. "Well. What have we here?"

Perceptor jerks, coming out of his thoughts as sharply as being smacked with the flat of a blade. He blinks awkwardly as he glances up at the doorway and takes in his visitor.
"Drift?" He shifts, straightening up where he is seated on the floor. He had not had as much time as he would have liked to have spoken with the newly arrived warrior since the battle. Even during Drift's repairs, he'd been much distracted and more terse than was his wont.
"How are the repairs holding? Are you functioning adequately?"

"Repairs are fine," Drift says. He doesn't like talking about things like that--kind of reminds him that he got injured in the first place. Clumsy. Weakness. He really didn't like needing repairs. Needing...anything really.
Well, if Perceptor was trying to make him uncomfortable, Drift could return the favor. "So...how'd you land yourself here?" He can't quite stop the sardonic smile.

"I am glad to hear that," he replies, relieved. "I have not seen such skillful engineering in, as I said, quite a long time. You will notify me if you experience any issues with comfort or mobility?"
Perceptor isn't trying to make him uncomfortable at all. He is simply attempting to limp his way through some semblance of small talk. He sighs at Drift's question, though, and hunches his shoulder, sulking.
"I expressed my concerns to the wrong individual, apparently."

All right, Perceptor, Drift's feeling discomfort right about now. He doesn't like talking about, well, himself. More talk about Drift meant more chances that his...colorful history comes out. "I'm fine," he repeats. Defensive? Maybe.
He frowns. "You're not allowed to express your opinions here?" Maybe Wing was right. Maybe he'd made the wrong decision.

Let it all hang out, Drift. Perceptor's the safest one here to do that with. "Ah. Understood." Perceptor sighs, lifting one hand up to rub at his brow. Drift will be a stubborn one to take care of; he can see this already. As if wrangling Magnus and Xaaron and Impactor had not been bad enough. Ah well. Perceptor simply adds Drift to The List.
"Generally, yes," he finally replies, looking back up at Drift with a quick shrug. "But certain situations of late are... delicate."
He snorts and offers a thin, wry smile, the nods toward the small table that should still be nearby, upon which, theoretically, the rest of the snack cubes he'd brought Springer at the beginning of this mess should still wait. "Forgive my lack of hospitality, but at least may I offer you refreshment?" he asks drily.

"Doesn't matter how 'delicate' a situation is. If Autobots stand for anything, that means all the time. Not just when it's convenient."
Whoa, Drift. The wordiness is...catching, apparently. But he means that 'if'.
Drift rocks a moment. "No." He's not taking someone else's ration. He doesn't need it. Yes, Drift is the type of idiot who would starve to death rather than owe someone. "Uh, thanks."

Yes. That, exactly. Drift has hit upon the head the nail that is at the heart of Perceptor's discomfort. He stares up at the white mech thoughtfully for a long, long moment.
"What do you believe, Drift?"

Perceptor stares at Drift for long enough for the white mech to wish he could snatch those words out of the air and, well, choke something with them.
And then Perceptor's question. Erk.
"I believe...." Frag.
"In second chances."

Somehow, Perceptor wasn't expecting anything like that. He finds himself smiling wanly, nodding at Drift. "Admirable," he muses. "A just foundation. Very admirable."
His gaze grows distant, though, as he hunches forward to rest his chin on that up-drawn knee. "Are there some sins, however, that are too great to be forgiven? And by whose example do we measure our actions?"

Yeah, well...not everyone thought Drift was so 'admirable.' And right now that foundation didn't feel so solid. "Depends who you ask." Apparently.
His hands move to his swords. Not, for a change, aggressively, but for some kind of comfort. Frag. "I hope not."

Perceptor reigns his thoughts back in, gaze narrowing back onto Drift thoughtfully. Discomfort there, one that Perceptor thinks that he has felt himself before. He sighs softly and begins to lever himself up out of his corner with a low groan; his knee has stiffened during his inactivity.
"Would you mind?" he asks, nodding toward the small energon cubes, and pointing toward the access port. "Springer is not here to use them, and I must confess that my fueling has been somewhat sporadic these past few days."
He settles himself onto the bunk near the doorway, making himself more comfortable, hoping that Drift will, as well. "You had my radio frequency," he observes, waiting.

Drift watches Perceptor's stiff moves with some concern. "Maybe should do some repairs on yourself." It probably comes out wrong. But if he's going to get nagged about repairs, turnabout's fair play. And by the same token, he lets his optics move to the energon Perceptor indicates. "Only if you do."
Drift studies the far wall of Perceptor's cell. "I...yes. I knew a Perceptor from before." You know, back when things made sense. No zombies, no females. Normal.
Strange how he misses it now.

"Once I am released, I suppose," Perceptor replies absently. Granted, he has tools, but not much else with him at the moment, and doesn't feel like asking Drift to ask someone to bring him anything to the Brig. Kup did say he would be out sooner rather than later, after all.
Glancing back toward the energon, he nods again. "Of course." It would be rude, otherwise.
"Have you been finding your way around adequately? Been assigned quarters? Found the refectory?"
