Month 4, Week 2, Day 3, Event Horizon hallway, semi-private- - - Sentinel Prime has flagged Optimus down in the hallway and is trying to have a chat with him. He goes on, "...I just don't think that scatter-blaster training is general enough, you know? Bot, I don't even know why the training ones are pink. Something about Kup not wanting bots to walk off with them, I think? No, I'm sure that phasers should only be a contingency..." The minutiae clearly haunt Sentinel Prime in his defrag. Can't rest; pointless details will get him.

Optimus walks alongside the other Prime, convivial enough since they're off-duty. "It does seem kind of silly that we're always fighting with tools when the Decepticons have guns. No matter how skilled we are, they tend to end up with a range advantage. I guess it's just-huh?"
The sound of a rumbling engine is growing louder, presumably because it is getting closer. Or is it two engines?

That's certainly at least one engine. A red and white race car that looks somewhat like a cross between the Mach 5 and a crab turns a p-way corner, screeching though the sharp turn and driving straight for the two Primes. It would seem she's finally gotten around to getting an Autobrand, and not just any Autobrand, but the Elite Guard symbol, which now resides on the glass of her driver's cab, just below the inverted blue triangle on her chest in an area that would be above the heads of any passengers. She comes up on her two left wheels in order to squeeze between them, shouting, "Woah! Hey, there, guys! Coming through!" before landing on all fours and continuing past. "See you round!" as she zooms down the hall. She's approaching another corner, and will shortly be out of sight. OOC: Out of thread, though she may be in view /just/ long enough to justify shouting at her.

"Socio-cultural superiority complex designed to-" Sentinel Prime starts to explain to Optimus, who clearly needs more Sentinelsplaining in his life (poor Optimus).
Then suddenly, Override blows by.
There is a twitch under Sentinel Prime's left optic, and a little smoke curls out of his antennae. He tries to shove Optimus up against the wall and out of harm's way, which is all kinds of awkward, considering that 1) Optimus might find the move a bit patronising, 2) it is clearly an overreaction, and 3) Sentinel Prime'd probably do the same thing with Elita-1. Then he shakes a fist and shouts at Override's rapidly vanishing figures, "I don't care if you're Queen of the Blurrs! Slow down, you slagging speed demon!"
While Sentinel Prime is busy being crotchety, he has not yet noticed the sound of a second engine.

Optimus hates Sentinelsplaining, but he is beginning to develop a tolerance to it. It is like a callous on his soul.
Optimus gets a very good view of Override's undercarriage as it passes by right in front of his face in a reckless and unnecessary maneuver completely inappropriate for someone who once led a planet. Also, Sentinel pushing him up against the wall is weird.
"I'm fine, Sentinel," he protests, wiping a bit of obligatory black soot off his face. "We really need to think about having a speed limit in here. This is ridiculous."

As it turns out, it had been two engines.
The second roars around the tight corner at a speed that's pretty respectable for its not-inconsiderable bulk, but is hopelessly outmatched by the race car that's now well ahead of it. And unlike Override, the flame-clad Winnebago of Doom is not nearly the right shape to slip past the Primes by going up on two wheels.
So instead, Rodimus is forced to transform to avoid slamming into the two, though at the speed he's going, he's still unable to stop immediately. At least in this mode, he's small enough to stumble between the two instead of running into them. Rodimus manages to regain his balance before completely faceplanting, but it's a very near thing.
Once he's done he straightens and brushes himself off before turning towards them. "Erm... sorry 'bout that," he says with a sheepish grin, but his optics still twinkle with mischief.

"Yes, there ought to be a law!" Sentinel Prime agrees vehemently. "There..."
Then, suddenly, there's another hooligan! Sentinel Prime is outraged! What is this plague of reckless driving? He's about to give this malcontent a piece of his processor when he realises that the troublemaker is none other than Rodimus Prime! Never has a gear shifted from irate to sycophantic more quickly.
Oh, slag! What if Rodimus Prime thinks that Sentinel Prime was bullying Optimus Prime by shoving him up against a wall?
Oh, frag. What if Rodimus Prime thinks that Sentinel Prime was making out with Optimus Prime in public? Public displays of affection are disgraceful! Sentinel Prime'd never have a liaison with someone under his command!
Act cool like nothing is wrong, that's the ticket. Sentinel Prime pulls away from Optimus and crisply salutes, then dropping it because they are underway. He greets cordially, a bit too sugary, "Sir! Good cycle to you."

Sentinel Prime's mind is a scary place. Optimus fervently hopes he is never deployed there in the course of his duties. (It could happen. Perceptor had to go into Megatron's brain that one time. It had flying snakes in. Evil flying snakes.)
The Prime presses himself back against the wall again, without any help from Sentinel, as Rodimus comes roaring down the passageway, he can only give the other Prime a look when he transforms and comes to a stop.
"Sir- I mean, Rodimus, all due respect, but don't you think you're setting a bad example for the troops joyriding through the halls like that?"
Please don't hold it against them, Roddy. They're from kind of an uptight reality, as far as high-ranking Autobots are concerned.

Rodimus returns the salute quickly, though he actually goes through the trouble of doing a proper salute rather than his usual hurried 'get the salute out of the way as fast as possible' salute. Given that he was just indulging the more laid-back segment of the crew (including, of course, himself), might as well take a moment to indulge the more... procedurally oriented segment.
"Sentinel, Optimus," he greets the both of them, but at Optimus's question, his optics widen slightly in confusion and he shrugs, palms turned slightly towards the ceiling. "Well, no." Because obviously, if he thought so, he wouldn't have done it.
"We've been underway for a few months now, and sometimes it's a good idea to act a little stir crazy just to keep from going completely stir crazy. Kind of helps morale for folks to know it's okay to cut loose from time to time." Then he looks down the hallway, where Override has long disappeared, and mutters, "Good for her morale, she got to beat me in a race. Don't know what I was thinking." Then he shakes his head faintly and looks at the other two with a broad grin. "Besides, Xaaron says I should transform more frequently now."
Emirate Xaaron probably had no idea what sort of shenanigans he was authorizing with that recommendation. Or maybe he did. He's pretty canny.
"So anyway, what are you guys up to?" Rodimus is not going to assume that they were engaged in... any of the activities that Sentinel was worried he might. He knows full well who had been barreling down the p-way in front of him, and just because he's been known to use a convenient dodge for flirtation purposes doesn't mean he's going to assume it happens every time.
OOC: Thread is now open, should anyone else like to join.

Sentinel Prime worries a lot and is a bit paranoid. He gives Optimus a, 'What the slag are you doing?' look and tries to elbow Optimus. Don't get them both in trouble with insubordinate talk like that! He's supposed to be in charge of Optimus sometimes, so Optimus's screw-ups are now Sentinel Prime's screw ups, too!
Responsibility blows.
The correct action to take, of course, was to smile at Rodimus and maybe compliment him on his driving, and then, when Rodimus is out of audio-shot, making cutting passive-aggressive remarks about his skills as a role-model. Doesn't Optimus know anything?
Sentinel Prime focuses on just answering the question, and he stammers, "Oh, I was just talking to Optimus about how some... firearm training might be good for some of us, sir. Uhm. Kind of remedial training. You know, sir. Given our reality."

Optimus Prime gives Sentinel Prime a look of his own that seems to say 'What, me?' Pointing out a mistake (or a perceived mistake) isn't insubordinate, it's helpful! "Oh, that makes sense, I suppose."
He nods when the other Prime says what they were doing. "Though really, we'd need our own firearms to use before it did us too much good."

Rodimus inclines his head to acknowledge Sentinel's statement. "Well, you guys aren't the only ones to show up without much firearms training," he says. "I get the feeling Long Haul never used his blaster outside of 'weld' mode before he got here." Animated characters use tools as weapons. G1 characters occasionally use weapons as tools, and so Long Haul has a gun that he never actually used as a gun before arriving.
He begins to walk slowly in the same direction he'd been driving before - which would also be the direction Sentinel and Optimus had been walking in before Override passed them. "And Optimus, that's not necessarily true. People lose weapons in the course of battle all the time, and sometimes picking up one of those weapons can make a big difference, especially if you know how to use what you've just grabbed. It's actually not a bad idea to do as much cross training with the more specialized weapons as possible, though I realize not everything can be just picked up and used by anyone," unless 'anyone' is Elita-1 or Blackarachnia.
He pauses and rubs his chin, thinking. "Actually, Kup originally wanted to add that sort of cross-training onto the basic firearms training, but between all the other training, the watches, and everything else, he doesn't seem to have fit it into the schedule yet. Aaaand I kind of think he got distracted when the 'Cons and those alternate Autobots destroyed our base right after he got the idea." That whole mess was before Sentinel's time, though Optimus arrived right in the middle of that battle. "I should probably remind the old codger!"

The squeaky wheel gets replaced, Optimus.
Sentinel Prime starts to say, "There are plenty of training weap-" but he quiets, because the Big Prime is speaking.
When he speaks again, it is to agree enthusiastically, "Oh, I am all in favour of cross-training, sir!" Every combat style he picks up is one more step down the path of his Ultra Magnus - the path of power and awe. Who wouldn't want to be a bonafide Autobot super-soldier, and charismatic and wise, to boot? Just... not with the being obsolete part and the experimenting on Twins stuff. Thanks, but no. Also, the reading Decepticon poetry is just weird and rather suspect.
"I had actually asked Kup about some firearms training for myself, and he had some suggestions." Sentinel Prime just needs to actually get to it, but he has: 1) Duties, such as helping Botanica in the biosphere, P-way patrol, Rock Watch... 2) Planning Elite Guard training sessions. 3) Actually doing Elite Guard training sessions. 4) Mandatory training. 5) Supplemental training on his own. 6) Reading and study. ... n) Fuelling and defrag.
Firearms training would be somewhere in 5); he just hasn't got there quite yet.

Something equal parts hairy and scaly is scuttling her merry way along the hallway ceiling towards the group. Well, not entirely merry, since Seaspinner just had a startlingly close encounter with a certain red and white race car, but she is humming a cheerful little ditty to help calm her nerves. She'll be sticking to the walls and ceiling for awhile now, though. Literally.
Noticing the gathering of Primes, she lifts a long, multi-jointed front leg to wave at them. "Hello Sir Rodimus! And Misters Sentinel and Optimus, yes?" She's really been doing her best to learn the names and appearances of everybody aboard the ship, even the ones she hasn't met face-to-face yet. "Good day to you all!"
The spider-shark is planning to just pass on by, heading off to a work shift.

Optimus nods. "Picking up a weapon on the battlefield is good, but it's not quite the same as having one that's unique to yourself." Like a laser musket that shoots acid. "Cross-training is a good idea," he agrees.
The Prime tries not to stare at Seaspinner. She's clearly a Maximal of some sort, but she moves like a spider, which is just all kinds of disturbing. But she doesn't really look like a spider. Optimus doesn't really know what a fuzor is. Silverbolt, for all he knows, scanned a normal Earth animal for his beast mode. There's not that much difference between an eagle and a wolf, when you get right down to it. A spider and a shark aren't even the same phylum.
//Is it just me, or do these Maximals just keep getting weirder-looking?// he transmits privately to Sentinel Prime, unknowingly paraphrasing something a Rattrap said once.
