Month 2, Week 2, Day 3. Event Horizon medbay. Open.
Jetfire marches up to the medbay doors like a man on a mission. And he is! Sort of. He's a man with an appointment anyway, and if there's one thing Sentinel Prime drilled into him - though really there were many things Sentinel drilled into him - it was a sense of punctuality!
The door slides open as he approaches, and he peeks in. "Hello? I am being here for my operation!"
Today is the day that Jetfire becomes a combiner! Well, a different sort of combiner anyway. He's not too nervous about the procedure, even if he's a little unsure about combining with people other than Jetstorm. After all, he didn't begrudge the life-saving upgrade he got back home! He just wasn't pleased about the whole 'possibly waking up as a murderous Decepticon because this is an experimental procedure' part.
But hey! This is tried a true combiner technology, right?

Slingshot stomps in a few minutes later. So they're going to make him able to combine again. With basically anyone else ever, which is horrible because he has gestalt-mates, teammates, brothers already.
But they're not here.
"What?" he demands of the medical bay at large.
He knows perfectly well what.

Hook is usually not early. Being early is just as inexact as being late, only in the negative direction on the number line as opposite to the positive direction. He is usually on time. The jetboys, thankfully, are on time.
So Hook is here.
He points at two pre-prepared medical berths and vaguely thinks that the way social interaction goes is that perhaps he ought to say something now. Hook is something at a loss for what to say, however. They would not be here if they had not already been briefed on the risks and signed off on the procedure anyway. They are not Long Haul. They do not need to understand what is going on here. As they need to do is take their berths and be operated upon.
Hook purses his lips and settles on, "Good cycle," though he remains uncertain if that statement is actually true or not.

Long Haul is early, but that's because Long Haul has to prep work, making sure everything's in place and laid out just so. So that may not actually count as 'early,' after all.
He's here, mostly, to act as a 'nurse', but he's well aware that later on, he'll be expected to 'combine' with these two jets. He can't help but wonder what that'll feel like. He inclines his head towards Jetfire and Slingshot. "Hey, folks," he greets. He gestures to two berths that have been cleaned up just for them. "If you wanna pick a spot, we should be able to get started here soon."

Jetfire glances at Hook and Slingshot before smiling at Long Haul. At least someone else in this room is kind of social!
"Okey-for-dokey!" he says, heading to one of the prepared berths and settling onto it.

Slingshot scowls at Hook on general principles. He'd probably scowl at Long Haul, too, except he's gotten used to the dump truck-shaped Constructibot. It's still kinda weird, though.
"Yeah, whatever." He stalks over to one of the berths and settles himself in a way that doesn't mess with his jet too much.

Slingshot will find that his designated berth has something of a trench down the middle of it to accommodate him. Hook plans for these sort of details, and there's something in his head right now that tells him to care about it, when, another day, he might not have minded a patient suffering a little discomfort.
He looks over their medical files again and then asks bluntly, without preamble, "Jetfire. Were you ever a Decepticon?"
Medical files, he has seen, for those he will be operating upon. Histories, he has not seen. Hook is simply curious now about what he has seen in Jetfire's medical file, what looks alarmingly familiar and not at the same time.
He sweeps over to adjust one of the lamps and asides to Long Haul, "If you look at the surgery plans, you'll see I have it structured such that while we're waiting for epoxies to set on one, we'll be working on the other."
There will be no wasted time, for all that Hook is sometimes called slow. It will be efficient. Perfectly.

Long Haul's optics flash at Hook's question to Jetfire, but he inclines his head when Hook mentiones the surgery plans. "Yeah, I checked 'em," he says, because Long Haul's always been a fan of efficiency, too. He wheels the tool and part trays into place, then heads over to Slingshot's berth. "I'll be doing your upgrade, 'Shot, s'okay?" Since Slingshot is from the same reality set, he's likely to be slightly easier. Hook'll be taking Jetfire.

Jetfire's optics flicker in surprise at Hook's question, but he quickly answers, "I have not ever being the badness-bot!"
Though he recalls that he's lucky that's the case and shifts uncomfortably on the berth. Best not to think of things that didn't come to pass! After all, he came out of his previous upgrade as himself, so nothing to worry about.

"Okay," Slingshot grunts. He's still half-sitting up on the berth, giving Hook and Jetfire both a sour look.
Then his gaze shifts to Long Haul, and he props himself up even further. His voice drops as he asks, "Hey, I'm still going to be able to combine with my brothers, aren't I?"

"I am not certain what you have heard of me, Slingshot," Hook says calmly, "However, know that I see no point in crippling extant functionality." He picks up a scalpel and stares down the blade in the light.
The thought arises that he'd like to be one with Devastator again, and the thought is slaughtered by his shell program before it can fully arise. Its corpse sinks back down into his subconscious, to rot there, not gone but festering.
He sets the scalpel back down on the tray. It is an Autobot war design. He doesn't like it. The Dec... the pre-war designs were superior, he feels.
Jetfre's heated reply elicits... something out of Hook, or it should. On some level, he knows that he was a Decepticon, and apparently, just the thought of having been one offends Jetfire. Does Hook merely existing offend Jetfire? But he can't think about it in any detail. Hook observes coldly, "Your structure has much more in common with a Decepticon than your fellow patient."
He pulls out a long, wire-thin tool and moves to unlatch one of Jetfire's panels, so he can turn off Jetfire's pain sensors for the time being. Of course Hook will be doing the primary work on Jetfire, because Slingshot will be easier for Long Haul, as they are from the same reality.
Also, Long Haul has more patience for violent lunkheads.

Long Haul is just better at holding violent lunkheads down until they run out of steam.
He snorts at Hook's smug reply to Slingshot, then shrugs. "Yeah. In other words, don't worry about it." He begins to open up Slingshot's panels, starting, first, with shutting down the pain sensors. "Lot of little fiddly bits with this one, I'm afraid," he explains to Slingshot, "so I don't wanna rush it or anything." Then he snorts. "Still liable to be done faster than Hook, though."
Well, unless Hook hurries up to show Long Haul up. Which might well be Long Haul's motivation in the comment.

Jetfire looks a little sheepish as Hook mentions his build. He mumbles, and would probably twiddle his thumbs a little if he wasn't undergoing surgery. "Ah, that is, well, they are basing our flight on Starscream a little..."
He flinches slightly as his pain sensors cut off. That feels kind of funny!

"I've heard Pee-Dee call you Herr Drosselmeyer." Whatever that means. "You're a Decepticon. Why wouldn't you?"
For a guy who just accused Hook of being a Decepticon, Slingshot is surprisingly cooperative under Long Haul's hands. "Why would you be done first? I thought he was supposed to be the great surgicial engineer."

Hook is in no way, shape, or form an idiot. He is aware that Long Haul is baiting him. Does he wish to be baited, he wonders?
"Why?" Hook asks Jetfire. "It isn't hard to make something fly. I can fly." He smirks. Maybe the engineers in Jetfire's reality were just ragingly incompetent. Jetfire is lucky - Hook will go fix all of their mistakes!
Right. Now he needs to remove large portions of Jetfire's internals so that he can put different internals inside. He works on that. Jetfire, if he is paying a lot of attention, might notice that some of the parts of Hook's tray are labelled 'Starscream'.
"Only because she ran out of Peter Pan jokes," Hook says darkly to Slingshot. "I am not a Decepticon. Do not call me that again. I am indeed the finest surgical engineer Cybertron has ever known... and that is why I understand that all great things take time, something you may perhaps understand when you are older."
If Slingshot survives to that age.
