"Why not?" Hollister asks, taking the moment at a red light to look at Cameron and put on a bit of a teasing pout. "Police aren't cool enough for you?"
And with a left turn, they're in the parking lot. Hollister actually makes a point of finding a parking space about midway out from the storefront. Walking is healthy, and it's easier to find spaces when you don't want to park right up front.

"I want to help the most people in need that I can," Cameron says. "Also I cannot be a police officer at the moment anyway." It is Cameron's turn to pout, just a little bit.
Climbing out of the car, he looks around curiously at the variety of cars in the parking lot, then notes, "That license plate says 'dog'." It amuses him when license plates actually spell out words.

Hollister's eyes follow Cameron's suggestion and he chuckles at the plate, then pulls a cart from the nearest corral. He lets Cameron walk unless requested otherwise; really, Cameron's probably too big to ride along in the cart anyway.
"Maybe we'll look into Boy Scouts, too," he suggests. That would be constructive and keep Cameron busy, certainly. And he'll learn plenty of useful skills! "Now… what was the shopping list again?" He casts his eyes toward the ceiling as if straining to recall, tapping his chin with one forefinger.

Cameron will walk happily along at Hollister's side. He would really like a piggy-back ride, but he's rather more cumbersome to carry as a human than when he was robot.
His head tilts slightly at Hollister's suggestion. "Boy Scouts could be fun." He gets distracted by a flyer tapped up in the entrance way, committing the information on it to memory. "Or martial arts?" He would like to learn how to fight as a human! Most humans aren't much more than double his height, rather than several hundred times his size. That changes what he knows of combat.
Perking up at the opportunity to help, Cameron lists off, "Orange chicken, peas, carrots, corn, blue potatoes, and ice cream." He pauses then adds and addendum. "We already have peas and carrots at home, we don't need to buy those."

Hey, all Cameron has to do is ask and Hollister will totally give him a piggyback ride, encumbrance be damned. He misses having a friend small enough to ride on his shoulders. He gives the flyer only a passing glance, since the shopping is more imperative and he can look again on their way out.
"Okay," he says, "so we need blue potatoes, corn, and orange chicken." He deliberately leaves off the ice cream, mostly to see if he can goad Cameron into correcting him. "I don't think I can cook orange chicken, but I'm sure there's something in the frozen section we can use." To the produce section!

"And ice cream," Cameron adds, falling for Hollister's ruse. "Rainbow ice cream." Or at least neapolitan.
Perhaps he will ask Hollister for a piggy back when he is no longer burdened by a shopping cart. For now he must be on the look out for packaged orange chicken! He hurries ahead of Hollister to start perusing the shelves of frozen food.

"Right!" Hollister says brightly, "Rainbow ice cr– Cameron, wait!" Shouting after his charge draws a few eyes, several of them of the female persuasion, and Hollister turns beet red from collar to hairline. He hunches his shoulders and meekly hustles after Cameron to a chorus of muffled giggles from a sympathetic mother or two.
The frozen food cases are on the other side of the store, and bolting directly there from the door actually puts them on the dessert end first. Eyeing Cameron lest some nefarious person snatch him away, Hollister pauses his pursuit long enough to grab the ice cream.

Cameron hurries back to meet Hollister, a box of orange chicken already in hand. He's good at quickly picking what he wants out of a large selection of similar objects! He impressed several of his classmates with his skill at Where's Waldo.
Putting the box in the cart, he stares at his 'brother' and notes, "You changed colour."

Having attention called to his blushing just makes it worse, and Hollister wishes he'd changed into sweats before he picked Cameron up. At least then he could hide behind his hood.
"Maybe I did," he grumbles, "but I'm not talking about it. Let's go get the corn and potatoes, okay?" He is so embarrassed right now. If he could sink through the floor, he might just.

"Oh, okay," Cameron says, tilting his head curiously. Hollister seems flustered for some reason! Following along beside the cart, he reaches out to pat Hollister on the arm comfortingly. "I changed colour today, too."

A moment or two passes before Hollister quite registers Cameron's attempts at commiseration.
"You what?" he says dumbly, blinking and looking down. Then he parses it the rest of the way and befuddlement becomes surprise. "You did? Why?" He's trying to picture Cameron blushing over something and he can't quite make the image work. Absently, remembering just now he's running low on tea at home, he detours to pick up a few more boxes.

Cameron shrugs at the question. "I don't know, I just did. Like this!"
Screwing up his face a little, Cameron's face suddenly darkens a few shades. Contrary to what he said, it's less that his skin seems to be changing colour and more like he's just not reflecting as much light. However, given that the lighting conditions in the store haven't changed at all, it's clearly something going on with the little Autobot-turned-human.
Relaxing, Cameron's face lightens up again and he actually smiles at Hollister. "See?"

Hollister takes in the way Cameron seems to turn darker with a befuddled look on his face at first. When he realises it isn't blushing, his confusion changes to shock and he drops so he's on eye level with the smaller Autobot.
"How long have you been able to do that?" he asks, trying to rest his hands on Cameron's shoulders and look him eye to eye.

Cameron stares back at Hollister with a focused intensity that sometimes makes his classmates and teachers uncomfortable, and shrugs a little under his guardian's hands. "I think a few weeks, but I did not realize what it was until today."
He remembers a few instances where it seemed like a cloud had suddenly passed over him, or like the sun had just come out, only to be confused when he realized that the quality of light hadn't otherwise changed around with.

Now, Hollister might only be a mediocre detective, but it hardly takes Sherlock Holmes to figure out that Cameron is a meta, watching him – what's the word for it? Watching him change his reflectivity.
"Cameron," he says, then adds very quietly, "Spy Shot… you have to be careful about letting that happen." Mentally, he fishes, wondering if his nebulous, fuzzy human self knows how the registration laws work regarding children, and how he might dig those memories from the aether. He doesn't even realise he's thinking far too deeply until his head is full of that strange, ringing sound he hears when the world gets too quiet, the sound he used to think was voices speaking too lowly for him to make out until he knew better. And then Hollister goes utterly still, hands still resting on Cameron's shoulders, his eyes unfocused and face empty.
