"Oh, we're already sure I'm a freak," Petunia says with a wink. She sobers quickly. "A cut's the most effective way to test it. It gives us a clear wound to look at, and if there's nothing weird about me besides what we already know, then I slap a bandage on it and you roll your eyes and don't actually say 'I told you so'."

Esprit pinches the bridge of her nose and sighs. She says, "What you need to do is go down to the station and get a composite sketch drawn before you forget everything. Check if there's any security footage here. Check on Ms. Winston. We'll find you some method to injure yourself along the way."
Human life, so strange.

"Sketches just confuse people. But you're right, there are things I need to be doing." Petunia stands finally, tipping her head slightly upwards to look Esprit in the eyes. "First, I do need to get back to Elly. I was making her dinner while we watched Top Gear."

Esprit stands and nods her acquiescence. She'll follow Det. Dahlia along, but she shows no enthusiasm over Top Gear.
(Esprit goes for the aircraft softcore.)

Petunia makes sure she telegraphs her intentions clearly as she steps forward to hug Esprit. Her partner is... not fond of surprises.
"Thank you," she says quietly. "I hope I didn't interrupt any plans with your husband."
OOC: Attempting to hug Esprit with permission.

Esprit allows the hug. She even returns it, drawing on Singe's memories to try to... slaggit, Singe, that is not how women hug each other in platonic fashion. Stop that. Esprit settles on a memory of how Singe would hug a cousin. She shrugs and glances at her wedding ring. If Ned wanted someone who did not vanish for long periods of time for no apparent reason... that someone would be dead.
So Ned will just have to want someone who does vanish, because that is whom he has.
Esprit replies, "S'okay. Just don't want Cpt. Fanzone chewing me out if you poke out an eye or something."

Petunia smiles, then knocks on the door. "Elly, I'm back! I brought my partner with me!"
She doesn't even try the knob to see if it's locked. If it's not locked, she is going to have Words with someone. Probably Elly, but the creepy redhead is also high on her list.

The door is locked three times, with the two default locks that came with the apartment and then again with a third lock that Elly added. She peers out the fisheye suspiciously. Elly undoes two of the locks and then slowly undoes the third before opening the door just a crack. She hisses, "What is the first thing you said to me?"

Esprit takes Ms. Winston in with one efficient look and the layout of her apartment, too. The carpet must be new, she thinks, because she cannot see any blood. On Elly, though, Esprit can see the traces of violence in his ashen skin and those dark-rimmed eyes. She imagines that the scars must be rather impressive. Esprit contents herself with looming ominously behind her partner. There are reasons why Det. Dahlia is the one who tends to interact with victims as opposed to Esprit.

"'I'm here to ask a few questions about your murder'," Petunia quotes. She leaves off the bit where she introduced herself first, because she figures that's self-evident.

"You left off the introduction," Elly sulks. Then she demands, "You there. What is the first thing you said to Det. Dahlia?" She turns her attention back to Det. Dahlia and explains, "You never know when there could be doppelgangers."
Given the whole mess with Wasp and Bumblebee...
Elly still does not yet open the door entirely.

Esprit stares at Det. Dahlia for a long, long moment. This is something she did the first time they met. Then Esprit says quietly, "Det. Dahlia? Det. Hunt."
She did not then venture that she was assigned her partner by Fanzone or that she was from Vegas. After all, Det. Dahlia should have known that Fanzone had assigned them as partners! Explaining about Vegas would have required Det. Dahlia to ask a question for Esprit to answer.

"Yeah, pretty much exactly that." Actually exactly that, but sometimes people find her partner creepy when she says things like that. Elly has enough creepiness in her life!
Speaking of, Petunia smiles at Elly. "What do you think?"

Humans in general are creepy. They look like tiny little robots modes made of meat. It is horrifying. Seeing herself in the mirror still sometimes makes Elly throw up - just one time this week; she isn't doing too badly right now. She does not say any of this. Instead, she smiles and says, "I think you both should come in and... sit down? Explain what happened when you went off chasing that man?"
She opens the door just wide enough to allow the detectives inside single-file.

The detectives walk in single file to hide their numbers.
Esprit does come in, but she takes a post near the door to stand look-out. She looks pointedly at Det. Dahlia. Esprit wants to hear this explanation, too.
