Rodney glances off in the direction that Carolyn had been scowling at when she mentioned the 'idiot who touched' her. "Kind of early for someone to be that drunk already," he observes, then shrugs, "though I guess for some people, you can never start too early." He looks at Carolyn and flashes her a smile, though he keeps the charm toned down a little more than he might otherwise; given what she's angry about, he doesn't want to come off as trying more of the same. If her right hand is unharmed, he reaches out a hand to shake hers (if it's the right hand that was bleeding, however, he keeps his hands at his side). "My name's Rodney Prior," he offers.

Carolyn, Arlen is trying to pick up Addison. That is what he is doing.
"You shouldn't," Arlen agrees, pleasantly enough. He grabs a drink for himself and mirrors Mirage's salutes, before introducing himself, "Miraj Citanes."
He's convincing in rattling off the name. He says politely to Rodney, "Thank you for assisting my cousin."
There, Carolyn's a cousin now.

"A pleasure," Addison says before taking a sip of his drink. He inclines his head politely at first Rodney's lady and Mr. Citanes, and adds by way of introduction, "Addison Payne."
Another sip, and he turns a thoughtful eye on the lady's cousin. The model's lips quirk in a smile.
"So your name is Miraj. Will you and your fair cousin now disappear, leaving us wanting?"

Carolyn hesitates a bit longer than she should before tucking her purse under her arm and shaking Rodney's hand. She can't help sizing Rodney and his beau with a cold and calculating look that doesn't fit her apparent socialite status.
"I know who you are, Mr. Pryor. You blow things up."
Belatedly, she realizes she should probably smile when she speaks to him, "My name is Morrigan Faine." She doesn't add It's a pleasure because it isn't. It's never a pleasure to meet someone she might have to kill.

Rodney gives "Morrigan" a broad grin and lifts a cocky brow. "It's just one of my many talents." Then, more conversationally, he continues, "Seriously, though, I do effects besides just explosions. Granted, Bay has a pretty high explosions-to-other-effects ratio, but there's definitely a lot of the 'other effects.'" The cold look and the initial lack of a smile are not missed by Rodney, though he doesn't give any obvious notice to them. He also doesn't miss 'cousin.' Arcee is... 'cousins' with the person who is neither Terran nor Cybertronian.

"I suppose I could," Arlen says thoughtfully, "but I would really rather save parlour tricks for a parlour." There's just a twinkle of mischief in his muddy, unremarkable eyes. No, he is not going to reveal his gating tricks just for the sake of trying to pick up a guy at a party, but he has other tricks! Like... 'hide the knife' and... 'hide the knife in someone's skull'.
Maybe he should not show off those tricks today.
"But you. You must be familiar with all that is not real. I doubt I could show you anything you have not seen."

For a half second, Addison's glass pauses in it's tilt toward his mouth and he looks at "Miraj" with more than just passing curiosity. Mirage has always been good at making connections, and Addison is the same, and right now, the model finds the combination of this exotic gentleman's name and his commentary rather unsettling.
Of course, there is no reason for such a feeling. Addison doesn't yet know that "Morrigan's" cousin is not human. Addison only knows- suspects really- that the woman is not.
He gives "Miraj" a dazzling smile, "I would not call myself an expert in illusions. I am but an actor. It take an entire crew to give some semblance of truth, some realness, to my pantomime." Addison turns a fond look on Rodney.
Music starts to play, and Addison drawls, "Ah, Rodney, this is one of your favorites." Addison's tone indicates it is not one of his, "Perhaps Ms. Faine might be willing to indulge you."
The song may or may not be one of Rodney's favorites. But it may provide an excuse for Rodney to talk to woman.

Carolyn isn't paying as much attention to Rodney as she should. She is too busy staring at Arlen. What is her brother doing? She nods distractedly at Rodney, and is about to speak when Addison Payne makes his damnable suggestion. That's bad enough, but then Arlen speaks up.
"Oh, Morrigan loves that song, too! What a coincidence."
Her jaw clenches and the fingers of her uninjured hand flex. She does not speak up. Let the pretty firebird ask if her if he wants to dance.
Firebird? Why did her mind assign him that moniker?

It's not really Rodney's favorite song, but Rodney's favorite song is unlikely to be played here. He doesn't give any indication that Addison is telling anything less than the truth. Instead, at Miraj's claim, he offers Morrigan a bright smile. "All right, then! Care to dance?" He gestures towards the dance floor with his left arm and offers his right to the lady.
OOC: Shall we peel off into another thread?

Arlen wonders if he can talk Carolyn into inhuming Rodney just for the sake of Arlen trying to pick up a guy. This is very strange thinking for him, but he does not think it so, caught by Addison's glamour as he is. He's a bit afraid that he has put Addison off somehow and he tries to think of what he might say and do to make it right. He hazards pleasantly, "So if it is the crew that gives truth... would you consider yourself a purveyor of falsehoods?"

Addison watches Carolyn's reactions very closely. He finds them rather telling, not the reactions he is used to seeing from even the most base of the elite circles. Certainly not the reactions he is used to seeing to Rodney. The FX expert really is gorgeous, and tends to garner admirers wherever they go.
As the pair peels off into another thread onto the dance floor*, Addison turns his attention back to the woman's cousin.
"You ask if I, an actor and model, consider myself a purveyor of falsehoods?" Addison laughs and continues, "My dear, my entire profession is built around being whatever the viewer needs of me in the moment. It is my job to please, and I shall be whatever I must be to do so."
He sips his drink and smirks, his gray eyes studying Miraj intently, "The question then becomes one of personal ethics, and I find I do my job quite well without violating my own."

There are no words to describe how much pain Carolyn is going to put Arlen through for this later. Oh, she won't actually hurt him, not like she could, but he can look forward to drills from hell for the foreseeable future.
Of course, he will just smile and seem to enjoy them, basking in the joy of knowing he got under her skin. She cares deeply for her brother, but sometimes, just sometimes, she hates him too. Rather, she hates what he has been twisted into over the years.
With barely a nod, Carolyn takes Rodney's arm and is spun out onto the dance floor.
OOC: Both Carolyn and Rodney are now out of thread.

"I would not imply that falsehoods are inherently a bad thing," Arlen says circumspectly. He feels an odd sort of longing when Addison mentions having a personal code of ethics. Arlen has no idea what that would be like.
Addison may notice that, as interested in Addison as Arlen appears to be, Arlen does not show that kind of interest in anyone else here, male or female.
"The world needs certain stories to be told, after all."
And for certain things to remain unsaid forever.

Addison has certainly notice the way "Miraj" is fixated upon him. It is slightly worrisome to Addison given his ability. He does not want to bend anyone to his will in such a way, not really, but oh does he enjoy the attention. What harm is there in tasting this one's desire for a few moments?
Later, Addison will wonder at where such a thought came from.
"Certainly. Our stories define us." He reaches out and tries to run his finger along Arlen's jaw.
"That is not your cousin's favorite song," he says softly, "Do you think knowing me is worth causing her discomfort?"

Arlen should deny everything. He should be aghast at the thought of doing anything mean-spirited to his cousin. A nice, normal person would. Rationally, he knows that.
Nice and normal aren't interesting.
Gently, Arlen replies, "You assume that I cause her discomfort in order to know you. It is possible instead that I would know you in order to cause her discomfort. You see, we have played games with each other as long as I can remember. The rules are ever-changing. There is always and only one constant, however."
He pauses for dramatic effect, enjoying the finger along his jaw. Arlen even reaches his own fingertips up to try to lightly brush against Addison's hand.
"She always wins."
